Senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Dinesh Trivedi on Wednesday dismissed reports about him joining the Bharatiya Janata Party as baseless rumours.
Clarifying his stand on the issue, Trivedi said, “There is no truth in it. People shouldn’t read much into praise of PM Modi by me.”
Rumour is not always a fact, praising someone who has been doing good work shouldn’t be read too much into, Trivedi added.
Cautioning those spreading false reports about him, Trivedi said, “I have a bigger picture of nation in mind, not petty politics of Mamata Banerjee or Modi ji. It is time for everyone to come together.”
Trivedi made these remarks a day after media reports said that the Trinamool MP from Barrackpore is unhappy with his party and is contemplating to join the BJP.
In 2012, Trivedi, who was then the railway minister, had to face Mamata’s ire for raising Railway fares while presenting the Rail Budget. Trivedi was forced to step down as the union minister by the TMC supremo and the UPA government had to roll back the increased fares.
Trivedi is mulling to join the BJP at a time when it has got a shot in the arm with former top cop Kiran Bedi, ex-AAP leader Shazia Ilmi and Congress leader Krishna Tirath joining the party ahead of Delhi Assembly elections.
The BJP and TMC have been embroiled in a war of words ever since some of the Trinamool leaders were arrested in the Saradha scam.
Mamata has accused the BJP of playing politics with the CBI probe in Saradha scam.
The West Bengal government and Trinamool Congress have moved two applications in the Supreme Court demanding a court-monitored investigation into the multi-crore Saradha chitfund scam, currently being investigated by CBI.
Both, in their pleas, have alleged that TMC leaders are being “targeted” by the CBI and alleged the agency is being used as an “instrument” of the Centre.
