In a shocking incident of human trafficking, a man sold his wife to an agent for Rs 50,000 so that he could buy himself a bike, who in turn sold her to a third party.

The incident was reported from Betul in Madhya Pradesh. The duo got married four years ago and have a one and a half year old child.

A few months ago, the woman, who hails from a tribal family, went missing. As days passed, her parents got increasingly worried. Days later, she called her paternal aunt and informed that she had been sold to an agent.
Her father approached police to lodge a missing persons complaint and told them that he suspected her husband had sold her. On SP’s orders, officials sprung into action and first raided the agent’s house only to find it locked.
However, they continued searches and were able to track the woman down in Chachauda village in Guna district.

He told the police officials that her husband took her to Bhopal on June 4 on the pretext of getting her employed as a labourer. On the way, he dropped off his child at his brother’s house and then took his wife to Rajgarh. He then sold her to agent Arvind Meena in Nevali village and fled with the money.
