Two killed, 20 injured as bus falls in gorge

Two persons, including a 65 year old woman, were killed and as many as 20 passengers sustained injuries when their luxury bus fell into a gorge in the district, police said.

The bus carrying over 25 passengers was proceeding towards Rajasthan when it skid off the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway near Save village and overturned and fell into the gorge at around 22.30 PM yesterday, Manor’s assistant police inspector Maruti Patil said.

The two deceased were identified as Asraf Ali Harun Nagori (30 – from Mumbai) and Sudama Durga Gupta (65 – from Godhra).

The injured passengers were admitted to hospitals in Palghar, Vapi and other places, he said.

Offences have been registered against the bus driver under sections 304(A) (causing death by negligence), 279 (rash driving), 337, 338, (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) 427 of the IPC and also relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act, he said adding that no arrest has been made so far in this connection.
