The accused, a Muslim youth, arrested in the Agra church attack on April 16 on Thursday gave a fresh twist to the story by admitting that he had vandalized the place of worship because of unrequited love for a Christian girl.
According to a report, Haider Ali has confessed that he vandalized St Mary’s Church because a Christian girl he loved, who frequented the church, did not reciprocate his affection.
The girl had stopped coming to the church in the fortnight before the attack.
Haidar lives in the Sultanpur area of Agra and had been detained on the basis of his mobile phone location.
Though Ali has claimed he was alone during the attack on the church, policemen have refused to buy his version as they feel he could not have wreaked all that destruction alone in such a short time.
