India’s Test skipper Virat Kohli broke down in front of girlfriend Anushka Sharma according to a report in Jagran, in an incident that took place during India’s tour of Australia in 2014-15.
Australia had already won two Tests of the four-match series. In the third Test match at the MCG which ended in a draw, MS Dhoni didn’t mention anything about his retirement at the post match conference but the announcement came from BCCI via a press release.
Kohli who had captained India in the tour’s first Test, was handed the reigns after MSD’s retirement.
In an interview to Cricket Monthly, Kohli said he immediately went to his room and delivered the news to his girlfriend Anushka Sharma, who was accompanying the cricketer on the tour. Sharma expressed shock when she came to know of Kohli’s appointment. There was a moment’s silence, said Kohli, and then tears flowed.
It was a precious moment, said the cricketer, because he had never imagined of captaining India’s Test team so early in his career.
