In a controversial remark, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee on Monday warned that those who dare to challenge the Trinamool Congress administration will have their eyes gouged out and their arms chopped off.

The president of Trinamool Congress’ youth wing also trained his gun at Narendra Modi and said that most of the political parties have fallen on the feet of the Prime Minister, but TMC did not.

The TMC MPs have shown that they would not spare anyone who tries to exploit the people of West Bengal, said Abhishek while addressing party workers in the run-up to the July 21 Martyr’s Day Rally in Basirhat area of North 24 Parganas.

The Lok Sabha member from Diamond Harbour in South 24 Parganas district added: “So as long as Mamata Banerjee is there, whoever dares to glare at the people of Bengal, we can gouge their eyes out and throw them on the road. If hands are raised, we can chop off the hands.”

“But you have to remember that in democracy, it is the common man who will say the last word,” he added.

The Trinamool Congress observes July 21 as the Martyrs’ Day in the memory of 13 people who were shot dead in 1993 in police firing on a Youth Congress rally led by Mamata Banerjee, then a Youth Congress leader.

The comments of Abhishek have attracted severe criticism from the other political parties.

“The comments are the reflection of the DNA of Trinamool Congress. This is what is expected of TMC and its leaders,” BJP national secretary Siddharth Nath Singh said.

BJP leader GVLN Rao said that if TMC MPs think that they will scare people by using such language, there will be a revolution in West Bengal. He also said that TMC can win elections only by unleashing terror.
