Skin specialists at Rajasthan’s renowned SMS hospital were thrown into a tizzy when they encountered a 40-year-old woman whose foot, they say, looked like a horse’s hoof.
The doctors were shocked at the sight and termed it a first-of-its-kind case in the country.
For the lack of knowledge, doctors called the disease hoof-like Kretoderma. However, they couldn’t tell the woman the exact cause of the problem or suggest a medical treatment.
“I have not encountered a patient with such a unique health condition in my 25-year career span,” said the Dr. Aggarwal, head of Skin Department at SMS hospital.
However, the case has been referred to senior doctors across the country to devise a treatment for the problem.
The woman claimed she has been suffering from the rare medical condition for the past 20 years. It was first detected when she was 20-year-old. Back then also, she showed herself to several doctors but they couldn’t understand the problem even as her pain grew more each day, she said.
Two decades on, the health problem has become worse and still remains untreated. Over the years, her foot has taken the shape of that of a horse’s hoof.
