Dabbawalas offer prayers for Nepal earthquake victims

DabbawalaDabbawalas, who ferry cooked meals from homes to customers in offices, on Monday offered prayers for the Nepal earthquake victims.

The Dabbawalas lit up candles and carried placards with messages to express their tribute to those affected by the earthquake.

One of the Dabbawalas said that they are pained by the destruction caused due to the earthquake in Nepal.

“The earthquake in Nepal has caused lot damage to life and property. Every Indian is pained by such a destruction caused by the earthquake. Dabbawala’s are also pained by it. We want to tell people of Nepal that they are not alone in this difficult time, every Indian is with them. Mumbai’s Dabbawala’s express their tribute to those who have lost their life due to this earthquake,” said one of the Dabbawalas.

A massive earthquake with 7.9 magnitude hit Nepal at midday on Saturday followed by 55 aftershocks.

The calamity, one of the worst in over 80 years, killed over 3,200 people.

India is also sending tonnes of blankets, food and water for the quake survivors in the Himalayan nation.

Military aircraft were sent with medical equipment and relief teams, along with 285 members of its National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
