As per an RTI application filed by activist Anil Galgali with the Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation it has been revealed that the much delayed Kalyan € skywalk has been opened for public. The 12.74 crore project was delayed for six years causing inconvenience to the people.

Galgali inquired with KDMC regarding the status of the skywalk and the reason behind its delay. KDMC Deputy Engineer Nemade Bhalchandra informed Galgali that the skywalk was physically opened to public on 31st December 2016. KDMC issued work order to M/s Jai hind Road Contractors on 6th November 2009.

On 31 October 2008 Standing Committee sanctioned an expenditure of Rs 10,75,86,000 which was more than 39 per cent of the actual cost of the project i.e. Rs 7,74,00,000 . After that on 29 September 2015, the committee again had given node for extra funds to the tune of Rs 1,98,71,084 thereby escalating its cost to Rs 12,74,57,084. Since Railway Authority only grants permission to carry work outside of railway track hence the project got delayed further. KDMC extended the deadline eight times and failed to take any action against the contractor.
