1.87 lakh cases of violations detected under CR zone in March

Central Railway (CR) detected 1.87 lakh cases of ticketless/irregular travel under its zone and has realised fine of Rs 9.11 crore from violators in March, an increase of almost 8 per cent as against the corresponding period in 2015.

“Central Railway conducted regular checks during March 2016 wherein a total of 1.87 lakh cases of ticketless/irregular travel including unbooked luggage cases were detected, and fine of Rs 9.11 crore was realised,” the CR said in a statement today.

In March 2015, a total of 1.74 lakh cases of ticketless/irregular travel, including unbooked luggage cases, were detected.

“This year it shows an increase of 7.89 per cent in number of cases,” the statement said.

It stated the amount realised as fine in March 2016 stood at Rs 9.11 crore, which is 15.56 per cent more than Rs 7.88 crore in March last year.

The CR covers a large part of Maharashtra and small part of southern Madhya Pradesh and north-eastern Karnataka.

In March, 268 cases of illegal transfer of reserved tickets were detected and an amount of Rs 2.43 lakh was realised as recovery, it said.

“During financial year 2015-16, a total of 24.31 lakh cases were detected as against 21.33 lakh cases during corresponding period last year, thus registering an increase of 14 per cent in number of cases,” it stated.

An amount of Rs 120.57 crore was realised from the violators as fine in FY16 as against Rs 101.16 crore during corresponding period of the preceding year, which is a 19.19 per cent increase in earnings.

Central Railway has also appealed to the passengers to travel with proper and valid railway tickets.
