In a significant political development, Prem Singh Tamang has been elected as the legislature party leader of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), thus paving the way for his swearing-in as Chief Minister. The unanimous decision was made during a late-night meeting at the CM’s official residence, attended by all 31 newly-elected MLAs.
SKM secretary general Arun Upreti initially proposed Tamang’s name, which was seconded by Sangha MLA Sonam Lama, leading to Tamang’s unanimous election as the legislature party leader. Following the announcement, party leaders extended their congratulations and committed to working under Tamang’s leadership.
The SKM has secured a commanding victory in the assembly elections, winning 31 of the 32 seats. The opposition SDF managed to secure just one seat. This electoral success further consolidates Tamang’s leadership and enhances his mandate to govern.
