Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the world’s highest railway bridge over the Chenab river in Jammu and Kashmir, marking a monumental achievement in Indian infrastructure. Built at a cost of ₹1,486 crore over a span of more than eight years, the iconic bridge stands taller than the Eiffel Tower and is being hailed as a marvel of modern engineering.
Following the Chenab bridge inauguration, the Prime Minister also launched India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge built across the Anji river. Holding the tricolour, Modi walked along the newly inaugurated Chenab bridge, symbolizing a new chapter in rail connectivity to the Himalayan region.
Prior to the inauguration, PM Modi arrived at the site traveling in a rail engine coach, underscoring the importance of the occasion. He was accompanied by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
These landmark projects are expected to significantly enhance connectivity in the Union Territory, especially the remote and mountainous regions, while also boosting tourism, trade, and strategic mobility.
