Arvind Panagariya appointed as NITI Aayog Vice Chairman

The government on Monday appointed Arvind Panagariya as the Vice Chairman of the NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India).

Besides Panagariya, economist Bibek Debroy along with former secretary of defence research and development V.K. Saraswat will take charge as full-time members as the other full-time members of the Aayog.

Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley, Suresh Prabhu and Radha Mohan Singh were appointed as Ex-Officio members while Nitin Gadkari, Smriti Zubin Irani and Thawar Chand Gehlot will be Special Invitees.

Meanwhile, replacing it with NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India), the government has archived the website of the erstwhile Planning Commission while the new body will launch its own website in a few days.

NITI Aayog made this announcement on Twitter, a preferred communication platform of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and host of other ministries and government departments.

“Administrative reforms are under way. The NITI Aayog website will be ready in a few days. The process for Transforming India has begun!

“The Planning Commission website has been archived and all related material can be accessed on the following url: https://fb.Me/3vZp1jjFr,” twitted NITI Aayog.

Government replaced the Planning Commission with the NITI (National Institution for Transforming India) Aayog on January 1.

The Aayog has been mandated to serve as a policy think-tank for the central as well as state governments and has Prime Minister as its Chairperson.

Now for visiting the Planning Commission website, the users would have to use the link given on the official website of the 65-year old socialist era body.

The main page of the Commission’s archived website also provides information about replacing of the Commission by the Aayog. Besides a press release has also been put on the website.

The Commission’s archived website’s main page now has the pictures, designations and names of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well as Planning Minister Rao Inderjit Singh.
