Assam BJP MLA’s sex video goes viral, lawmaker denies involvement

In a major embarrassment for the BJP in Assam, a video purportedly showing one of its MLAs in a compromising position with a woman has gone viral online. However, MLA Ramakanta Deuri has denied his presence in a purported video, claiming it is a political conspiracy against him.

Ramakanta Deori, who represents the Morigaon assembly seat, when asked about the video, had this to say: “This is a conspiracy hatched by my adversaries since my name has been doing the rounds for a berth in the ministry scheduled to be expanded soon.”

The MLA also said that he will resign from the party and leave politics if closer scrutiny of the video establishes that he is indeed the man caught in the act.

He has submitted a memorandum to the Monitoring Committee for private television channels under the Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry through Assam Assembly Speaker “to take action against the channels concerned.”

Morigaon district Superintendent of Police Swapnail Deka said Deuri has filed a criminal case against the editors of three local TV channels that had broadcast the video and a police investigation was on.

Four compact discs (CDs) of the video were distributed to four local TV channels with three airing it, Deka said.
