At 84 years of age, Sarangpur’s Daulat Ram has 54 gold medals to his credit by participating in 100, 200 and 400m race in various competitions across the country.
Recently, he participated in the fifth ‘Yuvrani Athletics Competition’ in Alwar and won 4 gold medals in shotput, javelin throw, race and discus throw competitions.
“24 years ago, a young boy motivated him to participate in a race competition that was being organised in the village in remembrance of Baba Purnananda,” he said.
“My wife also encouraged me to give it a try. Initially, I was hesitant, but I decided to participate and ended up winning the race. I felt like I had conquered the world,” he said, adding that ever since that time, he considers the young boy as his mentor.
The boy informs him whenever there is race for elderly anywhere in the country.
Daulat Ram now wants the state government to recognise his talent. He believes that it would motivate others like him to live life differently.
