Gujrat lead AVWith an eye on the upcoming Gujarat assembly polls, BJP is working overtime to lure Gujarati voters in Mumbai and across the nation. The party has asked city based Gujarati voters to visit their home state and exercise their franchisee. Many Gujarati residents from the city are keen to visit Gujarat to vote for BJP. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi had held several rallies in Gujarat to garner support for BJP. He had laid foundation stones of various projects in Rajkot, Vadnagar, Gandhinagar and Bharuch in the state.

Modi is aware that traders in the state are unhappy with the government’s decision to hastily implement Goods and Services Tax (GST) and demonetisation campaign which has had severe impact on the economy. Therefore, he is giving some solace to traders by announcing that the government will try to address their concerns about GST and steps would be taken to make it tax payer friendly. Traders form a major chunk of BJP’s vote bank in Gujarat. He also added that GST Act was passed by arriving at a consensus with opposition parties like Congress. Earlier the Congress had attacked BJP for deliberately delaying the polling dates for Gujarat which would enable Modi to organise more rallies and announce polls sops to attract voters.

Varsha AVVarsha Gaikwad, Congress MLA said, “Gujarat residents are unhappy with Modi government’s performance and farmers are facing hardships. If Mumbai residents go to Gujarat for casting their votes then it won’t affect the outcome of polls. The state’s condition is so bad that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is personally overseeing the campaigning activities. Even if BJP hires people it won’t make any difference as citizens are fed up of Modi government and they want change.”

Paragji alavani AVParag Alavani, BJP MLA said, “BJP’s cadre is very strong in Gujarat. Mumbai Gujarati voters are connected with Gujarat so they will visit their hometown to exercise their franchise. BJP is not forcing them to vote. If people vote in large numbers then it will improve BJP’s performance.”

Sandhya AVSandhya Doshi, Shiv Sena corporator said, “I personally hail from Gujarat and I understand people’s mentality and they are against BJP due to GST and demonetisation which has affected the Indian economy. Even if people go from Mumbai and Maharashtra to cast their vote there is no guarantee that BJP will emerge victorious. The entire nation is against BJP.”

Bhaskar AVBhaskar Jadhav, NCP MLA said, “Today Gujarati traders speak against Modi government due to poor governance. There was a time when people used to praise Modi and have high regard for him. Even NCP has fielded able candidates and it can affect BJP’s victory prospects. Last time BJP performed well in Gujarat assembly polls but this time the scenario is different as traders are unhappy with the party’s performance.”
