As Mumbaikars try and battle high fuel prices, MRCC President Sanjay Nirupam on Monday charged the Govt for being unconcerned about the common man and their plight. Given that petrol prices are at a four year high, Nirupam said the Govt is simply anti-people.

Sanjay Nirupam said, “What shocks me about the BJP Govt is that when petrol prices are at a four year high and ache din are nowhere in sight, it neither has a back up plan nor is it addressing the issue. The sad part is that the BJP Govt is indifferent towards people. For this suit-boot ki sarkar, only the ultra rich matter.”

Sanjay Nirupam also added, “The tax component in the petrol prices is extremely high. If petrol is brought under GST, it will be available at much cheaper price. Either petrol prices be brought under GST or the taxes have to be removed immediately”.

In 2015-16 and 2016-17, growth in the government’s revenue from petroleum products was 25 percent each. This is much higher than earlier two years (2013-14 and 2014-15) when the growth stood around 9-10 percent each. Clearly, the BJP government has been milking the common man and denying the consumers full benefit of lower international crude oil prices that prevailed during the initial years.

Sanjay Nirupam adds that the hike in fuel prices will have an impact on vegetables, groceries and other commodities. Since both petrol and diesel prices are sky rocketing, that means the transport industry will feel the pinch. The entire supply chain will see an increase in rates and ultimately we are going to see food prices increasing.

“Who suffers in the end? Not this suit-boot ki sarkar. It is people who suffer. Tax paying citizens who are getting buried under the weight of wrong policies of the Modi Sarkar,” adds Sanjay Nirupam.
