Bypassing six senior engineers

MBMC’s town planning head recruit his relativeMBMC’s town planningDilip Gheware the head of town planning department of the Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation has flouted norms by appointing his close relative Rajendra Pangal as Assistant Town Planner. Prior to this Pangal had held the post of Junior Engineer of the same department. Few months back, the state government had appointed Ansar Patel as the Junior Engineer but Gheware had not permitted the former to join his duties. There were six other candidates who were contenders for the post but Gheware appointed Pangal by bypassing all of them. He even did not consider the application of Shrish Jadhav and Kiran Rathod who belonged to reserved categories. This incident only shows that how officials can violate rules to post their close relatives for lucrative jobs in the government department.

Yusuf Abrahani has forwarded a letter to the Commissioner of Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation, Secretary Urban Department, Mantralaya mentioning about the violation of government recruitment rules. He said, “Mr Gheware has been holding the post in the same department since last several years. By continuing with the same post for more than three years he has violated the government’s transfer order policy.”

“As per rules a government officer is liable to be transferred to other place after completion of three years of service. Some inquires of irregularities are being pending against Gheware,” he added.

Abrahani has urged the MBMC to conduct a thorough probe into this matter for unveiling the truth. He requested them to furnish a detailed report about Gheware and his wrongdoings.

Rajendra Pangal is said to be holding additional charge of Assistant Town Planner in the same department.

An official from MBMC said, “A lobby is working overtime to grab lucrative posts to take control of the real estate market in Mira-Bhayander area. Already land is scarce in Mumbai and its extended suburbs hence people are eyeing every inch of it to earn lumpsum money. Huge amount of black money is invested in the real estate sector.”

RTI activist Musharraf Shamsi has also written a letter to the Thane Collector and Urban Development Secretary mentioning about the violation of recruitment rules. He too demanded for an investigation into this matter and take action against Gheware if he is proved guilty. He said, “The town planning department should be kept away from the control of one family. All the senior officials belonging to reserved categories should be recruited and justice must be delivered to them.”
