Cancer awareness AVOn the occasion of World Cancer Day and being the Cancer Awareness Month, Sacred Heart Church, Vashi organized a program on Sunday, to raise awareness among the people on cancer. Dr. Donald John Babu, Surgical Oncologist at Mahatma Gandhi Mission Hospital presented an awareness talk and educated people about the cancer prevention strategies.

The initiative is to prevent cancer and we are designing early detection strategies to eradicate cancer. Yes, it is possible to fight against this disease as it is curable if detected early, said Dr. Donald. Today, numerous cancers are preventable just that the strategies to prevent them are either not accessible or not being adopted by thereby leaving people at risk, adds Dr. Donald John Babu.

At the awareness talk presented at Sacred Heart Church, Dr. Donld John Babu busted various myths about cancer and said, “There is no ‘one’ cause for cancer; it is multi-factorial and hence there isn’t ‘one’ medicine for cancer.”

He further added that turmeric in milk, ginger and honey, Ganaga Jal, Gauvmutr (CowUrine) etc. do not prevent cancer.

We need to make people aware of Cancer and ways to combat and prevent the disease. The support from Sacred Heart Church Vashi is a real booster for us today and tells us that the people are lacking information and education about cancer and at the same time are willing to learn about ways to prevent cancer.  Dr. Donald John Babu said, “Such informative community talks can play a vital role and help to disseminate information faster thereby making people more conscious and help detect cancer in patients. He further added that treating cancer at an early stage can save lives.”
