Former Chhattisgarh home minister Nanki Ram Kanwar, who had been occupying a government accommodation in Raipur, refused to pay Rs 2,40,000 bill citing financial crunch as the reason.

Despite being defeated in the elections in 2013, he did not vacate the bungalow. Recently, the government issued him a notice asking him to vacate the house and also pay a bill of Rs 2,40,000.

In response, Kanwar said: “I do not even have Rs 2,000, how will I pay Rs 2,00,000. I will have to sell my land to be able to pay the bill.”

He has written a letter to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh pleading him to waive off the bill.
