Child sex ratio dips; Hindus lead fall

The latest sex ratio data should certainly ring alarm bells to take action in order to save the girl child.

The child sex ratio in India has dipped to the lowest level since 1961.

Sex-Child Ratio

According to fresh Census 2011 data released on Wednesday, the child sex ratio for the whole country now stands at 918, dipping further from 927 in 2001.

Also, except two religious communities – Sikhs and Jains – all others showed further dips.

Moreover, among Hindus, the child sex ratio declined from 925 in 2001 to 913 in the latest Census data; the biggest decline among all religious communities.

The child sex ratio among Christians declined from 964 to 958 while among Muslims it declined from 950 to 943.

What is child sex ratio?

It is the number of girls aged 0-6 years for every 1,000 boys in the same age group.
