Vishvajit Kadam AVCongress leader Vishwajeet Kadam filed his nomination for the by-poll to Palus-Kadegaon Assembly seat in Maharashtras Sangli district.

The by-poll, scheduled on May 28, has been necessitated because of the death of sitting Congress MLA and former minister Patangrao Kadam.

The Congress has now fielded his son Vishwajeet Kadam from the seat in the by-election.

He had unsuccessfully contested from the Pune Lok Sabha seat in 2014 elections.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has not yet announced its candidate for the by-poll.

The counting of votes will be held on May 31.

Vishwajeet Kadam inherits a strong legacy of his father in the form of control over a Sangli-based cooperative sugar mill, several dairies, educational institutes and cooperative societies in the western Maharashtra district.

The winner of the by-poll will hold the office for just over a year, as the term of the current Assembly ends in October 2019.
