In the back drop of so many terrorist attacks in various parts of the state and the prevailing security threats, Andhra Pradesh Government made it compulsory for using CCTV cameras in public places having presence of more than 100 people. The state government made this as a rule through an ordinance recently to provide public safety at public places and establishments throughout the state.

Under this rule, it is mandatory for every establishment to store the video footage for a minimum of 30 days and make it available for inspection as and when required. Every establishment, thus liable to install CCTVs in their premises within six months as on the date of commencement of this rule or before the next renewal of license whichever is earlier.

Depending on the size and nature of the establishment, it is now mandatory for them to use CCTVs with prescribed technical specifications, Door Frame Metal Detector Checkmate, Hand Held Metal Detector, Vehicle Bottom Search Mirror, Baggage Scanner, usage sniffer dogs etc.

States like Maharashtra, Delhi, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh witnessed a large number of small and major terrorist strikes in various locations in the recent past. Industry observers are viewing the move of AP government as a trendsetter in the right direction for the safety of its people.

“This is a welcome move from the part of Andhra Pradesh Government for the safety of people and the establishments as well,” said Mr. Pramoud Rao, Managing Director, Zicom India. “In fact, Andhra Pradesh Government set an example for all the state governments to follow. Safety of its citizen’s life and property should be the prime concern for any responsible government, leave aside the growth of industry, the industry will grow eventually.” concluded Mr. Rao.

The Rs 1000 crore plus Indian electronic security industry is expected to grow on a 20-22 per cent y-o-y over by 2015. The decision by Andhra Pradesh Government and if other state governments to implement similar rules, it will further accelerate the growth of the Security Industry in the country.
