A report filed by a veterinary officer with the Uttar Pradesh government has revealed that the meat found in Dadri lynching victim Mohammad Ikhlaq’s house was not from a cow but from a goat, reports said on Monday.
“Prima facie it seems that the meat found in Dadri lynching victim’s house belongs to goat progeny,” ANI quoted the UP officer as saying in his report.
Reports also said samples of the meat, which was found in Ikhlaq’s refrigerator, have been sent to the forensic laboratory in Mathura for final analysis.
52-year-old Ikhlaq was beaten to death and his son severely assaulted on September 29 by a mob in his village which accused him of eating beef.
The mob — which gathered following a public announcement from a nearby temple — attacked Ikhlaq and his son, Danish, even as family members kept screaming that the meat was not ’beef’ but ‘mutton’(name used for goat’s meat in Asian countries).
The incident triggered a chain of protests across the country, with prominent writers, film-makers and scientists returning their awards
The chargesheet in the case filed last week by the UP police named 15 people, including Vishal Rana, the son of a local BJP leader.
