The government must dissolve Balbharati and appoint new office bearers says Hindu Janajagruti Samiti.
Hindu Janajagruti Samiti is unhappy with the manner in which facts have been distorted in the fourth standard History textbook of Balbharati. According to the outfit a false picture of Shivaji greeting Afzal Khan has been printed in the book. However, according to history Afzal Khan was killed at a meeting with Shivaji, and his army was defeated in the Battle of Pratapgad. The outfit has called for action to be taken against the officials of Balbharati and has also demanded for the removal of misleading picture from the textbook.
Abhay Vartak spokesperson of Sanatan Sanstha said, “Nobody should try to change the History. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had killed Afzal Khan but Balbharati has published wrong picture about him. Shivaji was known as a brave king and he is respected by everyone but the institution is misrepresenting facts about him. The mistakes committed during the Congress reign continues even during BJP’s rule in the state.”
“Taking into consideration the sentiments of the people Balbharati should withdraw the textbooks from the market and reprint fresh textbooks by making the necessary corrections. Strict action must be taken against those officials responsible for publishing false information in textbooks. The government must dissolve the institution and appoint new office bearers,” he added.
The members of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti had already met Deputy Director of Education Sunil Chavan and Special Officer (History, Civics and Administration Moghal Jadhav. Both of them had assured the outfit of addressing this issue at the earliest. The outfit members had presented Afzal Khan’s picture to them. They have also threatened to hold protest if the misleading pictures are not removed from the textbooks within seven days.
Sunil Ghanvat, Maharashtra convenor, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti said, “We had presented the picture of Afzal Khan to officials of Balbharati so that they understand about the history and make the necessary rectifications in the textbook. We have forwarded a letter to State Education minister Vinod Tawde in this regard.”
“Since people belonging to a section of the community were hurt by the pictures of Shivaji killing Afzal Khan and hence the changes were made in the textbooks to distort history. Even a film was banned on this subject to please the minority community. The BJP government must immediately ask the institution to rectify the mistake,” he added.
