Stardom and success gives standard to life, but maintaining those standards are challenged in this glamourous world. There are few those have maintained that standards. Shocking news of TV actress alleged suicide and then her friends from the same industry indicating that some foul play might have been involved, disturbing the investigation. Everyone is pointing out their fingers on Rahul Raj Singh (Pratyusha’s boyfriend), however, this is not the first attempt by her as per revelation.
The actress was in love with Makrand Malhotra, a businessman. She accused him of verbal abuse and death threats. She complained that Malhotra had been threatening and abusing her on the phone and one day he landed up at her place and abused her family too. She filed a police complaint against him. This was also big news in media. However, Makrand never denied that he and the Banerjee was a couple. They were in a relationship for over two years. Obviously, he was possessive about his girl, but later realised that she is cheating him. So, he went to her place to talk to her about it and end matters. However, Pratyusha didn’t entertain him. The next day, Pratyusha swamped him with calls. When he told her not to call him, she was enraged and told her father that Markand had been harassing her. Her father called that guy and hurled abuses and even threatened to get him killed. Later on, Pratyusha filed complaint against him at Oshiwara Police Station, to which Makrand too lodged a counter complaint against Pratyusha and her father. Pratyusha always wanted lavish boyfriend who can pour everything on her; she was very short tempered and had mood swings nature.
After Balika Vadhu, Pratyusha could not get the role of that popularity. She was not having much work in hand. Irony is that, her bank accounts were joint accounts with parents and they had all the control over her money. I was seeing one video on YouTube where Pratyusha says, my mother told me to go to Mumbai find some work and until you don’t find work don’t show your face. Four months, her parents did not see her face. After she got lead role in Balika Vadhu they came here to meet her. Pratyusha’s mother always believed that children should be independent and well earning enough to take care of their parents.
Pratyusha was hopeless because of her parents. She was going to file a case against them. All the money Pratyusha had earned was taken by her parents. She had borrowed over Rs. 50 lakh for her parents apart from giving out all that she earned and was under tremendous pressure as the financiers used to call her. Banerjee had a huge debt and this could be one of the reasons for her depression, according to the father of the actress’ boyfriend. Rahul Raj Singh’s father Harshwardhan Singh alias Pundit Singh also said that Pratyusha had informed them that she did not have cordial relationship with her parents and was going to send them a legal notice.
According to Mr. Singh, on January 16 this year, Pratyusha had visited their house in Ranchi to discuss her marriage with Rahul. During her visit, Pratyusha had apparently told Mr. Singh that she wanted to make an Aadhar card for herself, after which he took her to the Aadhar center where she gave her finger print, photograph etc. But, when the officials asked for a bank statement, Pratyusha submitted one in which her father was the first account holder and her mother was second and she was the third account holder. Mr. Singh claimed that when he enquired about the matter, Pratyusha had said her parents keep and control her money and that she cannot withdraw money on her own.
Rahul’s father also claimed that Pratyusha had monetary problems, and she often used to complain that she does not have a single bank account on her name. Also, apparently two years ago, her family had taken a loan of Rs. 2 lakh in her name without informing her about it and was upset that she was supposed to pay it back. Recently, Pratyusha withdrew money from Rahul’s account without informing him and they had fought over it. They both have joint account where money was deposited by Rahul Raj Singh. The police is scrutinising all the three joint accounts of Pratyusha Banerjee’s. Two of them are in Vile Parle and Santacruz areas. The suicide is believed to be due to severe financial distress. According to the statements of Pratyusha’s mother, she has little money as she did not have a regular income, but she refused to disclose the balance in her accounts. The police would check as to whom were the beneficiaries of the joint accounts, and the kind of loans Banerjee taken over the years. Rahul Raj has also told police that he had recently given a large installment to help Banerjee with a personal loan. Pratyusha used to live with her parents in Kandivali but shifted to Singh’s residence in Goregaon, where he has been residing for nearly 10 years, after they moved back to Jamshedpur. A police team visited his house, where she committed suicide. When Pratyusha’s parents realised that their greed had made their daughter more vulnerable to such situations, they told police that they enjoyed a good relationship with Rahul and vice versa. They told them that they had no reason to suspect him and did not want to file any complaint against him.
I hope parents will take lesson from Jiah Khan and Pratyusha’s suicide that the stardom is not permanent and their children are not money minting machines. They have to control their greed without getting their children in awkward situation.
