A FIR has been lodged against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Sangam Vihar, Dinesh Mohaniya, after locals alleged that he and his supporters roughed them up and misbehaved with women in his office when they went to complain about irregular water supply.

The case has been registered under Section 506 (criminal intimidation), Section 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and Section 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code at the Neb Sarai Police Station.

The woman who filed complaint against Mohaniya claimed that she goes to his office daily because of water-related issues but he refused to identify her when she reached there. It is not yet clear whether the incident happened on Thursday morning or Wednesday evening.

“He pushed me & other women, abused us. We want a case against Dinesh Mohaniya, he should be arrested,” the complainant said.

“When he abused and pushed us, we also did the same. Are we here to be beaten up? Severe water issue here,” she added.

However Mohaniya denied the charges against him saying that they were incorrect but accepted that the woman was coming to his office for the last three-four days regarding access to bore water.

“I organise many activities and if anyone has any complaint, they tell us and we diagnose that. If there is accusation of beating up, then there must be investigation into it. Strong action should be taken against Dinesh Mohaniya,” BJP leader Manoj Tiwari said.

Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay told that everyone knows about the dictatorial attitude of the AAP, so one can’t expect anything more than this.

“I have seen the video, how the AAP MLA misbehaved with the woman and insulted her. Delhi is a capital city and everyone knows about the dictatorial attitude of the AAP. So, I don’t think you can expect anything more from them,” he added.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had appointed Mohaniya as vice chairman of Delhi Jal Board. The incident could bring heavy criticism to the AAP government in Delhi.

Earlier in February a woman had allegedly slapped Mohaniya in his Sangam Vihar constituency when he had gone there to study the problem of water scarcity in the area.
