Flying club plane crashes at Indore airport, 1 dead, 1 injured

An aircraft of Madhya Pradesh Flying Club on training sortie crashed at Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport in Indore on Wednesday in which two persons were seriously injured.

“The aircraft on training sortie crashed near the boundary wall of the airport,” Superintendent of Police (SP), East area, said Abid Khan.

The two occupants of the plane suffered serious injuries in the mishap. They were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The condition of one of them is stated to be critical, he said.

A probe has been launched into the crash, Khan said.

Both the pilots — assistant pilot instructor Capt Pawandeep Singh Pabla (26) and commercial pilot Arshad Qureshi (28) — were admitted to ICU ward of Aurobindo Hospital where Qureshi succumbed to his injuries in the evening. Both the pilots had sustained multiple injuries and were rushed to hospital in serious condition.

Confirming the death of Qureshi, Dr Saket Jatti, one of the doctors treating the injured pilot said, “We could not save him. He died in operation theatre.”
