Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant has asked BJP MLA Ram Kadam to protest against State Water resources Minister Girish Mahajan for revealing the names of contractors who had tried to give him a bribe of Rs100 crore instead of holding dharna outside comedian Kapil Sharma’s residence asking him to disclose names of corrupt BMC officials. Earlier Kapil Sharma had alleged that he was asked to pay a bribe of Rs 5 lakh by BMC officials for construction work outside in his office. Through his tweet Kapil had exposed corrupt practices of Shiv Sena and BJP.

Sachin Sawant-AVSawant said, “Mahajan should disclose the names of these contractors and also demand for a probe into this matter. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis who had immediately ordered for an investigation into the Kapil Sharma controversy should also call for a probe for unveiling the names of those contractors who had tried to bribe Girish Mahajan. Why was this matter concealed for one and a half year?”

“Mr Kadam must protest outside Mahajan’s residence and he must reveal that which senior ministers of BJP are trying to conceal this matter. The party must take initiative in this regard as it is a matter of following ethics,” added Sawant.

Sanjay-NirupamMumbai Congress Chief Sanjay Nirupam said, “In an attempt to divert the attention from the main issue of bribery the BJP, Shiv Sena and MNS have accused Sharma of illegal construction activities in his office and have threatened him with demolition and other drastic actions.”

“The Municipal authority has every right to take action against any illegal structure in Mumbai. However, in this case they have targeted Sharma the whistleblower since he is an artiste and soft target with sole intention of supressing this bribery issue. Everybody is aware that the common man cannot get any work done without paying bribes,” he added.

Earlier Ram Kadam had registered a complaint against Kapil Sharma in the Cyber Cell of Mumbai Crime Branch after the latter posted a tweeted mentioning that he was asked to pay Rs. 5 lakh by BMC officials for construction work in his office.

Kadam, in his two-page letter, also marked to the Mumbai police commissioner and the Anti Corruption Bureau, has pointed out that Sharma should have lodged the complaint before the Anti-Corruption Bureau on the day the civic officials demanded the alleged bribe.

“As a responsible citizen, Sharma should have lodged a complaint before the ACB instead of resorting to the twitter. I am wondering that he has the time to tweet but no time to file a complaint,” said Kadam.
