The All India Institute of Local Self-Government (AIILSG) organised a convocation ceremony on Friday in the presence of dignitaries like Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray, Maharashtra Industries Minister Subhash Desai, Mumbai Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar, and AIILSG President Ranjit Chavan. Uddhav Thackeray inaugurated the ceremony which was held at Mayor’s Hall in Andheri. On this occasion, Uddhav Thackeray had handed over certificates to successful candidates passing short term Diploma/Certificate courses and training programmes.
Thackeray also launched the new book Policies and Issues in Urbanisation in India since 1990’s written by Ranjit Chavan. Ranjit Chavan shared his memories and initiative taken by AIILSG for providing qualitative and vocational guidance for students and dignitaries belonging to different fraternities to solve the management problems.
“Uddhavji Thackeray shares a good bonding with our institution. Our institution is running successfully since 1926 and we have made our mark not only in India but overseas. We have offered 12 syllabuses for students pursuing Fire Academy, Fireman course, Nursing Academy, DMlT course and Sanitary Inspector course. Training has been imparted to more than 15 lakh students and elected people’s representatives to discharge their duties in an efficient manner. Our courses are short term and job-oriented,” said Ranjit Chavan.
Subhash Desai congratulated meritorious students. He said, “Balasaheb Thackeray had spoken about the importance of this institution in 1985 when Shiv Sena had emerged victorious in the BMC election. He also recommended the name of this institution to impart training to Sena corporators. This institution has played a vital role in training them.”
Uddhav Thackeray said, “People are unaware about several subjects. I would like to thank AIILSG for providing qualitative and value based education to educated persons. Some subjects can’t be taught and one has to learn it. Politics can be learnt but it can’t be taught. Such institution needs to be opened in every nook and corner of the country.”
