Few hours after Jet Airways suspended its cabin crew for allowing Sonu Nigam take over the in-flight announcement system during a flight, the singer called it an ‘act of intolerance.’

In a statement, Sonu expressed that it is nothing less than pushing someone for spreading happiness. He said, “I have witnessed an elaborate fashion show in an aircraft. I have heard of small concerts happening in an aircraft. I have seen pilots and crew members cracking humorous jokes to loosen up passengers in other countries, which is so cool. To suspend crew members for asking me to sing on the address system, when the seat belt signs were off, and no announcements were to be made, is nothing less than punishing someone for spreading happiness.”

Nigam said that the seat belt sign was off and no announcements were to be made during the time he performed. He said Jet’s action amounted to intolerance. “Pity, there’s no one to question such harshness. This act of lack of common sense, according to me, is real intolerance.”

According to the aviation carrier, all cabin crew members on the flight have been taken off duty. Jet said the cabin crew will undergo corrective training to reinforce adherence to its operating procedures.

A statement issued by Jet Airways said, “All cabin crew on the flight have been taken off from flight duty for enquiry and corrective training to reinforce strict adherence to operating procedures.”

On video, Sonu Nigam is seen dressed casually in a T-shirt and jeans leaning against a wall in the plane as he sings two of his most popular songs from the films Veer Zaara and Refugee.

At one point he said, “Arrey wah, aap bhi gaatein hain. My God, saare singers hain (amazing, everyone here is a singer)” as passengers sang along with him.

This happened on January 4, when passengers on a Jet Airways plane requested Sonu Nigam, who was in the same flight, to sing for them.
