Man beaten to death on suspicion of theft in Santacruz; six held

In a shocking incident a 30-year-old man was beaten to death on December 25 by a mob over a suspicion that he was a mobile thief. In connection with the case, on Sunday Santacruz police have arrested six people for allegedly assaulting the man to death.

According to police, the incident took place on Friday (December 25) when the victim Shehzad Khan had entered a garden in the early hours of Friday and following which a group of six accused caught and assaulted Khan thinking he was a mobile phone thief. Later the locals of the area took Khan to a nearby hospital however he was declared dead on the arrival.

The Santacruz police station official said all the arrested accused are the residents of the same area where the victim used to live.

One of the officials from police station said, “They tied Khan to a pole and hit him with ropes and bamboo sticks. He collapsed inside an autorickshaw and was declared dead on arrival after passersby rushed him to a hospital. All six accused were held on Sunday.”

All the arrested accused have been booked under the relevant section of Indian Penal Code (IPC), further information related to this case is underway.
