The Purvanchal Sena president, Adarsh Sharma, who announced a bounty of Rs 11 lakh on the head of Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU) president Kanhaiya Kumar, has only Rs 150 in his bank account and owes rent for his accommodation for several months, reports said.

Sharma, a native of Begusarai in Bihar, who lives in a rented accommodation at Rohini, went underground soon after a case under the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act was registered against him at the Parliament Street police station, a report in Hindustan Times said. The case was registered after pamphlets signed by him were found pasted in parts of Delhi which said that the Sena will give Rs 11 lakh to anyone who will kill Kanhaiya.

Sharma has switched off his mobile phone and cut off all communication with his family members, relatives and friends, investigators said.

The pamphlets that surfaced in public places close to the Parliament on Saturday had the name of the Purvanchal Sena, an organisation that claims to work for people from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

“Whoever shoots JNUSU president and traitor Kanhaiya Kumar will be rewarded Rs 11 lakh from the Purvanchal Sena,” the posters in Hindi read.

Meanwhile, keeping the JNUSU president’s safety in view, a team of Delhi Police will now escort Kanhaiya each time he steps out of the university campus. According to the police, DCP south has asked the university to keep the local police station informed about Kanhaiya’s movement.
