Sanjay-DuttThe Home Ministry has sought a response from the Maharashtra government on a plea pending before President Pranab Mukherjee for remission of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt’s remaining jail term.

Justice Markandey Katju had written to the President and sought his opinion for the remission of Dutt’s remaining prison sentence. Mukherjee had sent the file to the Union Home Ministry for its assent.

The 55 year-old actor has returned to Yeruvada jail after his application seeking an extension in his 14-day long furlough was rejected by the prison authorities.

The MHA has now sent a fresh letter to the government on the issue of the remaining jail sentence as the response was kept pending by the previous Congress-NCP government in the state.

Dutt has been serving his remaining 42-month prison term in Yeruvada Jail, Pune in connection to the 1993 Mumbai serial blast case. Dutt was out on a furlough from December 24.

Due to frequent parole application, the Bollywood actor had sparked a controversy, where authorities were questioned over granting him leave.
