Modi versus Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s younger brother Prahlad Modi has lashed out at the BJP government at the Centre, saying it has “failed” to live up to peoples’ expectations and lacked will to resolve their problems. Prahlad was participating in a protest at the Jantar Mantar, New Delhi organised by the All India Fair Price Shop Federation, of which he is the vice-president, to press for their demands where he attacked the BJP and its government. PM Modi’s brother, who is also a BJP member and supporter of his brother, seems to echo the common man’s dissatisfaction with NDA Government which is not interested in solving the problems of the poorer community and common people. Is there any other certificate needed for this Government’s ‘failure’?

Prahlad Modi is a man who always stood on his brother’s side and issued statements whenever Narendra Modi met with a controversy. He supported his brother and BJP to come to power. He worked hard to ensure that BJP gets majority in the Lok Sabha even though he protested against his party at Jantar Mantar. However, he made it very specific, that whatever he is doing is not a revolt against his brother. For him, his brother is worth worshiping. However, he is in a profession and had to come to this platform to raise his voice before Prime Minister of this country. Now, when the Narendra Modi government has come to power with the message of fighting corruption, we have been forced to take to the streets, said Prahlad. If the party turns a blind eyes towards us then the BJP will face the same fate in UP and Bihar polls like Delhi. Prahlad also said that the BJP government lacked the determination to solve the problems of PDS shop owners. This appears to be politically motivated. It will not be surprising if the brother of the PM joins any other party.

Earlier also he was seen at Azad Maidan, Mumbai participating in an agitation against the Central government. Prahlad Modi in a 45-minute speech said that the BJP will lose in the Bihar and Uttar Pradesh assembly elections if the federation’s demands were not met. These include an increase in commission for rationing distributors and an assurance that each distributor would have at least 1,000 cardholders. Over 75,000 rationing distributors worked for the BJP in the Lok Sabha election in UP, which resulted in the party winning 73 of the 80 seats in the state. But for the Delhi assembly polls, they worked against the BJP, and it won only three of the 70 seats. Prahlad, was the star attraction of the agitation programme, not only avoided attacking his brother in his speech, but went out of his way to shield him saying that his fight was against the policy and the system.

The Association led by Prahlad is against the new biometric ration cards that are to be introduced soon by the government. That’s because dealers have been asked to collect extensive documents for the new ration cards from applicants. Ration shop owners say this should not be their headache. They also accuse the government of taking far too long to allocate the food grains due to them. However, Gujarat government sources say that there has been no delay on their part.

Prahlad also slammed the previous UPA government as they cleared the Food Security Bill and implemented it without any proper survey. The BJP government should stay the policy and conduct a survey before implementing it. The rights of ration distributors should be secured. Officials are diverting good quality grains in black market for their personal gains and replacing the same with useless and unusable quality stuff for poor people. The PDS system needs to be abolished and direct cash transfer should be made for the people below the poverty line in their designated bank accounts.

As we know that, BJP’s leaders are facing corruption charges, but nothing has been done so far against them by the party with a difference and ‘non-corrupt’ PM Modi. Rather, they are enjoying benefits and full political support. It’s high time; BJP and PM should take a serious note and immediate action against corrupt leaders to eradicate corruption from India.
