The Mumbai metro project seems to be a never-ending political tiff among the state leaders, and yet again a war of words began between BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis and chief minister Uddhav Thackeray led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA )government. This political spat comes over the delay in the development of a Metro car shed in Mumbai.

Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis late on Wednesday took a ride on the Delhi Metro and wondered when will he travel on Mumbai Metro 3, claiming that the MVA government has messed up the project. Fadnavis posted his photos with a mocking comment on Twitter targeting the MVA alliance government back home.

The BJP leader took to Twitter and wrote, “I travelled in Delhi Metro today to return back to the airport and reached in a very short span as compared to travel by road!”

The tweet further continued, “Don’t know when will I be able to travel in Mumbai Metro 3 to the airport, looking at the things messed up by the MVA on car shed issues.”

Fadnavis tweet over the slow speed over the construction of Mumbai metro irked Congress leaders in the state on Thursday.

Taking a jibe at Fanavis Maharashtra Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant said he was glad that Fadnavis appreciated the “Delhi Metro, developed by the Congress government.”

“The only metro (in Mumbai) completed was also by the (erstwhile Congress-NCP) government. Your government could not meet 2019 deadline,” Sawant continued.

The Congress leader assured that with vast experience in governance, “the MVA will surely do what your (BJP-led Fadnavis government) could not, if the hurdles created by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government are removed.”

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s media advisor Harshal Pradhan cajoled Fadnavis to “feel proud of Maharashtra first” before lavishing praise on others.

“You should feel proud that India’s best CM (Thackeray) has saved and given a forest to Mumbai in Aarey Colony. We are a growing state with a visionary leadership. Be proud of the fastest developing state,” Pradhan suggested.

There has been a long political dispute about the location of the Metro car shed since the day the project was announced. During the tenure of Fadnvais government in Maharashtra, the BJP party had chosen Aarey Colony, a green belt in Mumbai, for the car shed, part of the Mumbai Metro 3 line. However, after coming into power in 2019 Uddhav Thackeray led the MVA government in November last year, shifted the depot site to Kanjurmarg. The Mumbai Metro 3 project comprises a 33.5 km underground corridor. Reportedly, there will be 27 stations out of which 26 will be underground.
