Realty mkt to grow in 2019; to add 200 mn sq ft space this year: CBRE

unsold building 1Housing sales are expected to rise in 2019, as the realty market is on a recovery path after absorbing the impact of policy reforms like RERA, GST and note ban, according to CBRE. CBRE said 200 million sq ft of space will be added in 2019 across all segments including housing, office, retail, and logistics.

The real estate stock in India will reach 3.7 trillion sq ft at the end of this year, the consultant said in a report ‘Real Estate Market Outlook 2019 – India’ released here.

“The growth of the Indian Real Estate market in 2019 will be driven by numerous factors including technology, demand-supply dynamics, improved ease of doing business rankings and the dust settling post the implementation of reforms such as GST, RERA among others,” said Anshuman Magazine, Chairman & CEO of CBRE India.

He further said, significant growth across segments, will lead to the addition of almost 200 million sq ft of new real estate space in 2019 across categories including office, retail, residential and logistics.

Post the policy reforms of 2017, such as demonetisation, Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) and Goods & Services Tax (GST), the residential market is absorbing the impact of these changes and is on the path to recovery, CBRE said.

This led to a growth of about 15 per cent year-on-year in new supply and 13 per cent year-on-year in sales.

“As developers align themselves with structural policy reforms implemented in the past few years and with changing characteristics of demand, we can expect residential supply to improve in 2019,” the consultant said in a report.

The residential market is better placed this year as speculation-led investment activity has reduced significantly and financial checks are in place to prevent over-gearing, it added.

On the outlook for the housing sector, the report said the supply-demand scenario is expected to improve and unsold inventory levels are likely to decline further.

Affordable housing will drive supply and demand, backed by several government reforms.

“Alternate assets such as co-living, student and senior housing will continue to garner greater interest from end-users and developers,” CBRE said.

India demonstrates anti-satellite missile capability, stands tall as space power: PM

modi satellitePrime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday announced that India had demonstrated anti-satellite missile capability by shooting down a live satellite, describing it as a rare achievement that puts the country in an exclusive club of space super powers.

“In the journey of every nation, there are moments that bring utmost pride and have a historic impact on generations to come. One such moment is today,” he said in an unprecedented broadcast to the nation on television, radio and social media.

“India has successfully tested the Anti-Satellite (ASAT) Missile. Congratulations to everyone on the success of #MissionShakti,” the Prime Minister tweeted later.

He said the action was not directed against any country and the satellite was a pre-determined target orbiting at an altitude of 300 km.

The Prime Minister did not say who owned the satellite but added that India does not breach any international laws or treaties.

Mission Shakti, which was led by the Defence Research and Development Organisation, was aimed at strengthening India’s overall security, he said in his address that comes a fortnight before the start of the general election.

The last time Modi had addressed the nation was November 8, 2016, when he announced the demonetisation of high-value currency notes.

“#MissionShakti was a highly complex one, conducted at extremely high speed with remarkable precision. It shows the remarkable dexterity of India’s outstanding scientists and the success of our space programme,” Modi said.

“Shooting down a low earth orbit satellite is a rare achievement for the country,” he said.

India is only the fourth country to acquire such a specialised and modern capability after the US, Russia and China. The “entire effort is indigenous. India’s stands tall as a space power. It will make India stronger, even more secure and will further peace and harmony”, Modi said.

The Prime Minister had advertised his address to the nation on Twitter, calling it an important message.

“Do watch the address on television, radio or social media,” he said, setting off speculation across the country on what the topic was likely to be.

Earlier in the day, the Cabinet Committee on Security had met at the Prime Minister’s residence.

Don’t see myself casting white dudes as leads: Jordon Peele

jordan peele“Us” director Jordon Peele is not interested in casting “white dudes” as leads in his films as he believes there are already too many movies focusing on them.

The director, who made his debut with “Get Out”, has once again struck box office gold with “Us”, about a family terrorised by their doppelgangers.

Peele said being a successful director gives him a chance to put minority faces on the screen.

“The way I look at it, I get to cast black people in my movies. I feel fortunate to be in this position where I can say to Universal, ‘I want to make a $20 million horror movie with a black family.’ And they say yes,” Peele said while speaking to improve students at

Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre.

“I don’t see myself casting a white dude as the lead in my movie. Not that I don’t like white dudes, but I’ve seen that movie.”

With the success of black directors in Hollywood, Peele said it has brought about a renaissance in storytelling.

“It really is one of the best, greatest pieces of this story, is feeling like we are in this time – a renaissance has happened and proved the myths about representation in the industry are false.

‘Game of Thrones’ final season refers back to first season, says Maisie Williams

Game of thronesActor Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark in “Game of Thrones”, says the first season of the show plays a huge role in what happens in the eighth and final season of the fantasy drama.

Details about the final season of the HBO series are few and far between but the cast has teased a “bittersweet” ending.

In an interview with the Entertainment Weekly, Williams said she re-watched the first season.

“After reading the scripts I went back and watched season one again because so much of it refers back to that season,” Williams said.

“There are so many scenes that will look similar. And also I watched just to remind myself of the arc I’ve taken already. I wanted Arya to go full circle and try for some kind of normalcy like when she was younger, she added.

Williams said Arya will strive to find normalcy without letting go off her plan to kill Cersei.

“This year it’s like she has a dual personality there are so many emotions and memories that come flooding back when you’re with your family and the things that you fight for become very different, yet she’s also remaining on this path to try and kill Cersei and remembering her list and getting closer to that. So there’s this split with Arya between trying to be who she wants to be getting back to the navet and innocence with her family and unfinished business,” said the actor.

The final season of Game of Thrones begins airing from April 14.

Batman was Chris Evans’ childhood favourite superhero

batman avenger“Avengers” star Chris Evans has revealed he was a Batman fan while growing up.

The actor, who plays fan favourite Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, said his revelation about arch-rival DC’s Dark Knight would land him in a soup.

“I wasn’t that cool I was more into cartoons like Bugs Bunny and Looney Tunes, things like that.

“I’ll say Batman. I probably shouldn’t say that it’s DC, I’m gonna get in trouble. But those Michael Keaton movies, those were pretty big, so yeah I’ll say Batman,” Evans recalled when asked a fan question by The Hollywood Reporter.

The actor also revealed what his favourite scene as Captain America has been.

“I’m partial to that fight scene in the elevator (from ‘Captain America: The Winter Solider’). That was the first scene we shot in the second Captain America movie. It was my first time working with the Russos. It was the first time where it felt like Cap was kind of on his own.

“The first Cap movie, it felt like everyone was really holding my hand. And the first Avengers movie, I just did my best to not get in the way,” Evans, 37, added.

He will next be seen in “Avengers: Endgame”, which is slated to be released in the UK cinemas on April 25 and the US theatres on April 26.
