kangna jaylalitha 1Actress Kangana Ranaut who has been signed to act in the biopic of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actress J Jayalalithaa on Saturday said she always wanted to work in a regional film.

Talking more about her upcoming film, she said, “I was thinking of making a biopic on me. It came my way when I hear the narrative, it was so similar so either I could do that or do this. Then I go ahead to that. The movie will be released in Tamil and then later in Hindi.”

“If I come across other good work then, I will be objective enough to say it’s better than me. But I don’t think, if any, is there now. Last year, Tabbu ji delivered a fabulous performance in ‘Andhadhun’,” she added.

roger federer 759 4Roger Federer rallied from a set down to beat Moldovan surprise package Radu Albot 4-6 7-5 6-3 in a stuttering start to the 20-times Grand Slam champion’s Miami Open campaign on Saturday.

Federer, beaten by Dominic Thiem in last week’s BNP Paribas Open final, smashed 14 aces and broke Albot twice to advance to the third round but it was far from plain sailing for the 37-year-old against the world number 46. After dropping the first set, Federer broke Albot while leading 6-5 in the second with a backhand volley winner.

Albot could not convert a break point in the deciding set tied a 3-3, and the Swiss took command from there to wrap up a match that lasted two hours and 10 minutes.

Three-times Miami champion Federer finished with 38 winners but had to overcame 41 unforced errors to defeat Albot, who earned an ovation from the crowd for his efforts.

Earlier on Saturday, South Africa’s Kevin Anderson made a winning return to competition with a 6-4 3-6 6-3 victory over rising Spaniard Jaume Munar.

After more than two months away from the court with an elbow injury, the world number seven smashed 17 aces en route to the second round win over the 21-year-old Munar.

It was Anderson’s first tournament appearance since the Australian Open in January and he said he was happy with the way his elbow felt.

“To get through in three sets, it felt really good to be back out there. I’m happy with how the elbow responded. I feel like I’m hitting the ball great,” the sixth seed added.

Smith is a quality player but no comeback is easy: Ashwin

steve smith ashwinSteve Smith would still be a bit rusty and Kings XI Punjab would try to exploit it to their advantage, says skipper Ravichandran Ashwin, who also reckons that it won’t be easy comeback journey for the Australian.

The spotlight will be on Smith when Rajasthan Royals’ clash with Punjab on Monday.

“We all know he is a quality player and must have worked and prepared hard during the break but comebacks are not easy. He must have put a lot of efforts for a comeback mentally. I am sure he would look to perform and on the other hand we would look to take advantage of his rustiness,” said Ashwin.

Ashwin himself is struggling to make a comeback to the Indian side and is likely to miss the World Cup bus with Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravindra Jadeja doing a nice job with the white ball.

Asked if he feels, he is still in reckoning for a spot in India’s World Cup squad, he was a tad irritated.

“I can’t answer the question. Selectors have to answer that. But as far I am concerned I have played two World Cups. If I deserve and I am selected I would love to play,” he said.

When pointed out that he was deceptive a few years back but was sorted out and whether Chahal and Kuldeep could also meet the same fate, Ashwin said adaptation is key to remain strong.

‘Chowkidars’ only working for rich: Priyanka Gandhi

priyanka gandhi vadraTaking a swipe at the BJP leaders in Uttar Pradesh, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday said these ‘chowkidars’ (watchmen) are only working for the rich and are not bothered about the poor.

She attacked the Uttar Pradesh government while citing a media report on Twitter that claimed the dues of sugarcane farmers had crossed Rs 10,000 crore in the state.

“The families of sugarcane farmers toil day and night but the Uttar Pradesh government does not even take the responsibility of paying their dues,” Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said.

“Rs 10,000 crore of farmers’ dues means everything, including their children’s education, food, health, and the next produce comes to a standstill. These chowkidars only work for the rich and do not care about the poor,” she claimed.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was recently appointed the Congress general secretary for Uttar Pradesh East.

All BJP leaders in the country had recently followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi in adding ‘Chowkidar’ to their Twitter handles, after Modi claimed that he was a ‘chowkidar’ (watchman) of the country and would not allow any wrongdoing.

Where farmers’ well-wishers were when they faced starvation: UP CM asks Cong

yogi adityanathUttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday asked the Congress that where the well-wishers of farmers were during 2012-17 when they faced starvation.

The Chief Minister posed the query shortly after Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra launched a blistering attack on the UP government over alleged unpaid dues to the tune of Rs 10,000 crore to sugarcane farmers.

“When our government was formed, the pending cane dues were around Rs 57,800 crore. The amount was bigger than the budgets of many states. But we paid it,” asserted Adityanath.

“In the previous regimes of the SP and BSP, nothing was done for the sugarcane farmers, (and) as a result, they died of starvation (bhukhmari),” he added.

The UP Chief Minister struck back and asked, “Where were the so-called well-wishers of the farmers from 2012 to 2017, when the farmers were on the brink of starvation. Why have they woken up from their slumber now?”

Seeking to put the records straight, he said, “The sugarcane cultivation area in the state has increased by 22 per cent to 28 lakh hectare, and a number of closed sugar mills have been restarted. The farmers are happy (khushaal) now.”

Kashmiri Pandits thanks PM for his ‘bold step’ to ban JKLF

kashmiri panditsA Kashmiri organisation on Sunday welcomed the Centre’s move to ban separatist organisation JKLF and holding its founder, Yasin Malik, responsible for the genocide of Kashmiri Pandits.

The Global Kashmiri Pandit Diaspora, a joint initiative of Kashmiri Pandit organisations in India and abroad, has been persistently and vehemently demanding the formal acknowledgement that what the Kashmiri Pandits suffered was nothing but genocide, a statement said.

The organisation thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for “his bold and honest step” in recognising that the militant movement in “Kashmir is not about liberation, not about economic suffering, not about justice but a Theo-fascist movement which has brought great suffering to the land and its people,” the statement added.

“It is so heartening to see that our Prime Minister means business as far as dealing with Pakistan’s machinations in Kashmir is concerned,” the statement reads.

The “victory” (ban on JKLF) has been achieved because of the sacrifices and hard work of the entire Kashmiri Pandit community, it said.

The GKPD has presented a MoU to Home Minister Rajnath Singh in September, 2018, which articulated that the first and foremost demand of the KP community was to recognise Genocide and Ethnic cleansing of Kashmiri Pandits, the statement said.

The Yasin Malik-led Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) was banned on Friday for “promoting” secession of the militancy-hit state from the Union of India.

Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba had said that the JKLF was banned as the government has a policy of zero tolerance against terrorism.
