1) Review Sabarimala verdict

It refers to a large police-force deployed by the left-alliance Kerala government to enable two women including a Muslim to enter the Sabarimala Temple by the virtue of the recent controversial Supreme Court verdict allowing entry of women of all age-group in the temple despite the stiff opposition of majority Hindus including women. Very few publicity-seeking anti-religion ladies have made a futile attempt to enter the temple with temple-priests rightly warning closure of temple in case of Supreme Court verdict is forcibly implemented. Significantly 31-year-old Muslim activist having tried to enter the temple was recently in news for posing bare-breasted with watermelons to register her protest on an issue.

Such playing with religious sentiments of the Hindus is not allowed even in Pakistan according to a report published in Outlook-magazine issue dated July 5, 2004, where the non-Hindus are not allowed to enter the Hindu temples in Pakistan. In view of after-effects of the Supreme Court verdict and the logic of scientific features of the ancient Hindu religion, the Supreme Court should suo motu review its verdict to prevent the dignity of its verdicts.

2) Ordinance for Ram Temple will lead the country to disasters

It is regrettable that ahead of the crucial Assembly elections in three states and the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, several organisations and BJP leaders are raising the Ram Janam Bhoomi issue by setting a “deadline” for the BJP government to bring an ordinance or a law in the Parliament for the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Though it is not so difficult for the BJP government to bring an ordinance or law since it has already done it recently in the case of instant Triple Talaq and also against the Apex Court’s decision on the SC/ST Act. But it is quite certain that if the government brings an ordinance or legislation for the Ram Temple, it will be only a tyrannical decision which will lead the country to disasters and downfall all over the world.

3) Profit-margin in packaged milk

It refers to a reputed brand Nova of milk vigorously advertising for sale of full-cream milk now at a much reduced price of just Rs 45 per litre instead of earlier Rs 51 per litre. Only a few months back, a new brand Namaste India made an alarming entry in the marketing of packaged milk with very huge advertisement and sales-promotion expenses including providing free packs of milk on some initial quantity. Otherwise, also heavy advertisement-expenses are being done for branded milk marketed by famous giants of co-operative sectors like Mother Dairy and Amul. Patanjali has already made an entry for cow-milk being sold at Rs 20 per half-litre pack as compared to Rs 21 by Mother Dairy.

All this leads to doubt about extra-ordinary profit-margin on essential items like milk. There are also talks about the supply of branded milk by different companies that they are supplying packaged milk by processing of imported milk powder. The Union Ministry of Animal Husbandry, Department of Consumer Affairs, and other concerned ministries and departments of the government of India should study milk-marketing in a manner that can benefit the competition, advertisement, and sale-promotion expenses may be passed on to consumers by a reduction in the price of packaged milk. Companies should also compulsorily print prominently on the milk-packs if prepared from milk-powder.

Since some popular brands have started gimmick packaging of 400 ml-litres also to look like a half-litre pack, milk should be allowed to be packed only in packs of the half, two, and five litres pack abolishing unpopular packs of one and six litres.

4) Wait for SC verdict on Ayodhya issue

Once again RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat asked the Modi-led BJP government to consider introducing legislation for the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Why the Hindu organisations and the BJP leaders are demanding for a legislation to build the Ram Temple while the case is under process in the Apex Court? Why don’t they believe in the judiciary system? Does it mean that RSS Chief can’t have the patience anymore? It is the reality that both the rivals are eagerly waiting for the verdict in this regard, but we should show patience and consider the verdict on the basis of concrete evidence. This kind of statements will do nothing except to create violence and destroy communal harmony in the country.

5) The sad demise of ND Tiwari

With sheer sorrow and grief, one greater politician and the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand ND Tiwari passed away. This sorrowful demise left every one of us saddened and overwhelmed by tidal waves of sorrow and grief. He was well known for his administrative skills and capabilities. He made his tireless efforts towards industrial development and progression of UP and Uttarakhand. It is one more great loss in the political field in the year of 2018 while some other great politicians ceaselessly passed away in the very earlier period. Tiwari ji will be remembered in our good memories as an impressive leader and a successful politician. I pray for his departed soul. Rest in peace!

6) One more death for Ganga

It’s quite saddening to hear the demise of Ganga crusader GD Agrawal, popular as Swami Gyanswaroop Sanand, on the 112th day of his fast-unto-death. Two great activists — Swami Nigamananda from Bihar and Nagnath Yogeshwar from Banaras have already laid their lives for the sake of River Ganga. The demise of GD Agrawal has again put the spotlight on various missions and programs worth thousands of crores to clean the polluted river and made it clear that these programs are just on the paper not to implement on the ground. The more disturbing point is that the UP CM seems to prove himself as anti-Mughal just by changing the names of cities, while his government is being criticised for its failure in maintaining law and order. The need of the hour is that both the center and the state government make sure that the implementation of all the schemes on the ground to clean the polluted river and not let any death occur for its sake.

7) Bishop Mulakkal is not a rapist

This refers to your news-item ‘Bishop Mulakkal, accused of raping a nun, granted bail’ dated October 16, 2018.

The nun of a Kerala convent who has framed Bishop Franco Mulakkal of Jalandhar in a rape case that according to her took place between 2014 and 2016 should be thrown out of the convent and made to beg on the streets. The Church has no place for such people. This nun was having an illicit relationship with a married man and was planning to leave the convent but again decided to come back when the man left her. She says that she was raped 13 times by this Bishop. I would like to tell her that 13 times is not considered a rape. It is a pleasure. If at all she was raped 13 times, what was she doing all these four years? Why file a case against him now?

These so-called protesting nuns who have demanded the arrest of the Bishop do not understand that they have tarnished the image of the Catholic Church in India. By the nuns’ actions, they have dragged the Roman Catholic Church into the unwanted dirt. Now, the other religious institutions can point their fingers against the Church and say that the Church is perverse. These nuns have played havoc against the Church and ruined its name. Well done nuns, you have damaged your own image. It was better to help poor children and take care of old people, rather than enter dirty politics.

8) Stop Swine Flu deaths

Swine Flu deaths have given jitters to the people in Maharashtra. Mumbai Metro is also experiencing more Swine Flu deaths in recent times. The news of two deaths in the first 10 days of October is alarming! It is time to take all precautionary measures and see that the disease did not spread in epidemic form in the state. As we do not have good hospitals equipped with beds and medicines, the victims are running from pillar to post. There are now several suspected cases reported from the city and it is high time BMC work round the clock and attends the cases properly and on a war footing.  Swine Flu is a common mosquito-borne viral infection that causes severe flu-like illness and proves lethal if not properly attended and lead to hemorrhagic fever and prove dangerous. Swine Flu is dangerous and if the people show the symptoms and tests positive, then adequate care must be taken. The symptoms are very clear and the BMC should act immediately.

9) Exposing to the hot sun

Maximum of the city of Mumbai is facing heatwave in the month of October and the mercury almost touched 38 degrees centigrade. In the sweltering heat, people must avoid venturing out in the hot sun. This particular month may prove to be hottest and people will have to drink more water and take all precautions.  Watermelon and lime juice with sugar and salt can take care and avoid dehydration. It is time to have a greater health care rather than exposing to the hot sun. With high pollution level after the festivities, it is time to take shelter from the hot sun rather than making hay when the sun shines.

Let #MeToo be a warning

Metoo AVUnion Minister MJ Akbar has submitted his resignation to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) via an email on October 14 over allegations of sexual harassment by a number of women journalists. Such acts, if true, have to be ostracised and the person must be banned from holding any public post. He should not be allowed to stand for any elections.

Are not men expected to be decent where women are concerned? Are not the exact words of George Bernard Shaw, in his potboiler “Pygmalion”, but equivalent to what he was conveying in the relevant context? The ‘metoomovement’ is bringing out of the closet the skeletons one after another. When a prominent media person’s scandal broke out a few years back, it looked like a lone wolf case, but the flock is unravelling itself slowly.

It is clearly understood that many females from different upbringing also make inappropriate advances. They should file with the Women’s association on harassment and get MJ Akbar to pay the compensation if he is proved guilty. Ganging and attacking a person is reprehensible. He has his work and may have a capability which is unparalleled. The fines placed on such misbehaviour on females will satisfy society and prevent him on further mischief and keep his nose on the job. Some people by virtue of their religion may feel justified and virtuous in attacking members of the other communities.

Sushma Swaraj should ensure that MJ Akbar quit office at the earliest. It is disheartening to note that the political parties in general and BJP, in particular, have scores of celebrities with moral turpitude. Is it, besides muscle and money power, a necessary qualification to be a politician? I think he should step down keeping in mind the seriousness of the situation with such a large number of women complaining about his misbehaviour. Looks like, this is the proverbial tip of the iceberg.

More than 10 women journalists who worked with him during his tenure as the Editor in various media organisations have alleged that he made inappropriate advances during job interviews and during work interactions with them.

While the first accuser was a senior Bangalore-based journalist, Priya Ramani, the latest allegation came from a former intern who was 18-years-old at the time she worked with Mr. Akbar. Both the government and the BJP have taken no official stand on whether he should step down, but the clamour for his resignation has grown among the Opposition parties as well as sections of the media over the past week. To achieve something, one has to sacrifice something too.

InvIT IndiGrid looks to raise Rs 3,000 cr for projects

IndiGrid CEO Harsh Shah AV

IndiGrid, the country’s first Infrastructure Investment Trust (InvIT), plans to raise Rs 3,000 crore to acquire projects as it looks to expand its portfolio.

IndiGrid had recently raised Rs 250 crore in debentures through the e-bidding platform of BSE, making it the first-ever bond issuance by an InvIT, which was used to fund the acquisition of Patran Transmission Company.

“IndiGrid unitholders have approved up to Rs 3,000 crore of equity raising through the additional issue of units. Considering 49 per cent cap on leverage, this would allow us to acquire up to Rs 6,000 crore incremental projects. Any acquisition will require approval from unit holders,” IndiGrid CEO Harsh Shah told agencies.

The company, which owned 16 independent revenue-generating elements, including 13 transmission lines of 3,361 kms and three substations of 7,000 MVA capacity across nine states in India, recently acquired PTCL’s 1,000 MVA, 400/220 KV substation with 14 bays and LILO of both circuits of Patiala-Kaithal 400 KV double circuit triple snowbird line.

“We continue to look at value accretive opportunities for such acquisitions in future. We have set a target of Rs 30,000 crore of assets under management (AUM) by 2022, which we wish to expand through such acquisitions,” he said.

Shah further said the IndiGrid is looking at taking over two commissioned assets of its sponsor Sterlite Power and Ventures, including East-North Interconnection Company and NRSS 29 Transmission which it hopes to complete by next fiscal.

Apart from these, projects including Odisha Generation Phase Transmission, Gurgaon Palwal Transmission, and Khargone Transmission, which are expected to be commissioned next year will also be acquired by IndiGrid, he said.

“There are two other projects including NER – II and Goa Tamnar Transmission which will get commissioned in November 2020 and November 2021, respectively, which will get in our portfolio. In the meantime, we are also evaluating third-party acquisitions. If these assets have had stable cash flow and are value accretive to unitholders, we will buy them,” Shah said.

IndiGrid reported a revenue of Rs 165.3 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2018, and Rs 3 distribution per unit (DPU).

“IndiGrid remains on track to achieve its stated DPU guidance of Rs 12 for FY19,” he said.

John Abraham AV

Bollywood actor John Abraham, who is all set to don the cop’s hat in Nikkhil Advani’s ‘Batla House’, has finally started shooting for the upcoming thriller drama.

Advani took to his official Instagram account and announced the news of the shoot with a picture of the cast of the film.

I’m really excited for her: PeeCee on Meghan Markle’s pregnancy

Priyanka Chopra AV 1

Priyanka Chopra is really excited about good friend Meghan Markle’s pregnancy.

Chopra said she hopes this new phase of motherhood will be “amazing” for the Duchess of Sussex.

“I would, as a friend, just say that I’m really excited for her. I think this is a new phase in every woman’s life and I hope hers is as amazing as she wants it to be,” Chopra told a magazine at JBL Fest in Las Vegas.

Chopra, 36, and Markle, 37, have been close friends for several years. In May, the “Quantico” star attended Markle’s wedding with Prince Harry in England.

Last month, Chopra said that Markle is “doing amazing” after taking on the role as the Duchess of Sussex.

Anu Malik takes break from ‘Indian Idol’ amid sexual harassment allegations

Anu Malik AV

Music composer Anu Malik on Sunday said he is taking a break from singing reality show “Indian Idol” following various sexual harassment allegations against him.

In a statement the music director, who has been attached with the show as a judge since 2004, said he decided to step away from it as he was not able to “focus on my work”.

“I, Anu Malik, have decided to take a break from Indian Idol as I am currently unable to focus on my work on the show. The channel has been kind to agree for the same. Thank you,” Malik said.

The music composer’s response comes after sources claimed that Sony TV, on which the show airs, has asked him to step down as a judge for “Indian Idol 10”.

Sony Entertainment Television also issued a statement saying the composer would not be part of the show anymore, which includes Vishal Dadlani and Neha Kakkar as the other two judges.

“Anu Malik is no longer a part of the Indian Idol jury panel. The show will continue its planned schedule and we will invite some of the biggest names in Indian music as guests to join Vishal and Neha to judge the extraordinary talent of Indian Idol season 10,” the statement read.

The decision comes after singers Sona Mohapatra and Shweta Pandit accused Malik of sexual harassment. Two budding singers also levelled similar allegations against him.

Malik’s lawyer Thursday denied the allegations, saying India’s #MeToo movement is being used for his client’s “character assassination”. Malik has repeatedly denied the allegations.

Sabrimala row: BJP to stage protest across Kerala against temple verdict

Sabrimala AV

In a fresh turn of events, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday announced that it will launch a one-month long campaign across Kerala against the Supreme Court verdict that allowed women of all age groups to enter the Sabarimala Temple.

Speaking to agencies, K. Surendran, Kerala BJP General Secretary said, “There will be a month-long Sabarimala Aiyyappa Samrakshnaye Abhiyaan (Save Sabarimala Campaign) across Kerala. We will be going to every single booth, will visit every house and tell people about the importance of the sanctity of Sabarimala Temple.”

When questioned if they were not afraid of the consequences, Surendran said, “Maybe, but belief is everything for the Ayyappaa devotees. No court should interfere in the matter of faith.”

He claimed that the BJP’s state unit has got the support of the top leadership in the Sabarimala matter.

“We have their (top brass) support and we will be seeking their guidance on this matter, whenever it’s needed,” he said.

The Sabarimala Temple witnessed strings of protests by devotees and priests as few women tried to reach the sanctum sanctorum following the apex court’s ruling that came in on September 28.

The BJP General Secretary also said that the state government and Devaswom Board will file a review petition in the Supreme Court.

“We are for the law and order maintenance, the government can take any action they want, we are ready to face, for Aiyyappa we are ready to face everything,” he added.

The Ayyappa temple will close down on Monday after five-day monthly rituals in the Malayalam month of Thulam.

Before BJP, condition of MP was miserable: Shivraj

Shivraj Singh Chouhan AV

With political tug of war pacing up in Madhya Pradesh ahead of assembly elections, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday took a pot shot at the Congress party and said that when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) formed the government in 2003, condition of the state was “miserable”.

“In 2003 when we formed government, the condition of Madhya Pradesh was miserable. Congress had pushed the state in darkness. We have put our efforts into the development of the state. The economy that had sunk was strengthened and revived by us,” Chouhan said at a rally.

Single phase assembly polls in the state will be held on November 28 to elect representatives of the 230 constituencies. The counting of votes will take place on December 11.

The election in Madhya Pradesh is being seen as a direct political battle between the ruling BJP and the Congress.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led government will try to win for the fourth consecutive term, while the Congress will be fighting to regain power after 2003.

Congress rejects PM’s claim, says ‘didn’t neglect Bose’

Ashwani Kumar AV

Congress party on Sunday allayed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s claim that they, while in power for several years, neglected the contribution of freedom fighters like Subhas Chandra Bose.

Speaking to agencies, former law minister and senior Congress leader Ashwani Kumar said, “As far as Netaji’s sacrifices are concerned neither the Congress party nor the country has never neglected his sacrifices.”

Earlier on Sunday, after unfurling the national flag at the Red Fort to mark the 75th anniversary of the ‘Azad Hind government’ headed by Subhas Chandra Bose, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said “that several good sons of the Nation like him (Bose) as well as Ambedkar (B R Ambedkar) and Patel (Vallabhbhai Patel) were forgotten in the favour of one family.”

But Kumar said, “Congress has always considered Netaji Subhash Bose in high esteem. Not only that, the Congress being the party of freedom movement has given a special place and an honour at all times and at all places to Neta ji. In my view, the Prime Minister’s statement, given the fact that the elections are just around the corner, is factually wrong and is totally incorrect. I don’t agree with him.”

This day in 1943, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose established the provincial Azad Hind government in Singapore.

After nearly a year, in August, his Indian National Army captured the Manipuri town of Moirang, which remained under the Azad Hind government for four months during which it had its own currency.

This provincial government had been acknowledged by 11 countries, including Japan.

The Prime Minister said Bose promised an India where everyone would be undivided by religions and have equal rights, but those dreams even after years of independence, remain unfulfilled.

“We have reached ‘Swaraj’ after lakhs of sacrifices. It is our responsibility to maintain this ‘Swaraj’ with ‘Suraaj’,” Prime Minister Modi said.
