Swiggy delivery workers in Mumbai remain on strike for 3rd day over change in pay 5

Swiggy delivery workers in Mumbai have continued the strike for the third day due to a change in payouts, causing delays and unavailability of services in several parts of the city, media reports said on Tuesday.

According to the reports, Swiggy riders have been protesting due to recent changes to their rate cards and an increase in delivery radius.

Employees who deliver orders on Swiggy are gig workers, who are paid per order and are not employed by the company.

Initial protests were started by workers belonging to the Rashtriya Karmachari Sena in Bandra, but other groups also joined in quickly, resulting in sporadic protests across Mumbai, a crucial market for Swiggy.

Delivery executives claim their base pay remains at Rs 20 while their delivery radius increased from 4 km to 6 km, as per the reports.

The total compensation for delivery executives includes the base pay as well as additional amounts to account for travel expenses and other factors.

Due to the protests, many users in the city have been facing issues with orders on the Swiggy app.

“@SwiggyInstamart @Swiggy It has been more that 2.5 hours since my order on instamart. The support person says there are no delivery people( in central Mumbai, BKC ) and dont know how much more time it will take. But the thing that bothers me is restaurant orders are working BAU?,” a user wrote on X.

“Why is the Swiggy instamart app not working since two days in Versova area, Mumbai? It shows we’re currently closed since yesterday @Swiggy @SwiggyInstamart @SwiggyCares,” another user said.

One more user mentioned: “Whats wrong with Swiggy Instamart in Vasai. Its closed since yesterday morning”.

People of India stand firmly with Israel: PM Modi holds telephonic conversation with Netanyahu 7

Amid the fierce onslaught by Israeli forces on Gaza following the Haas terror attacks, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday had a telephonic conversation with his counterpart Benjamin Netenyahu and reaffirmed his support to the people of the country.

Taking to his official handle on X, PM Modi shared details of his conversation with Netanyahu, posting, “I thank Prime Minister @netanyahu for his phone call and providing an update on the ongoing situation. People of India stand firmly with Israel in this difficult hour. India strongly and unequivocally condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.” On Saturday, expressing solidarity with Israel in the wake of the deadly rocket strikes by Hamas, Prime Minister Modi said his thoughts and prayers, and that of his fellow countrymen, were with the innocent victims and their families.

“Deeply shocked by the news of terrorist attacks in Israel. Our thoughts and prayers are with the innocent victims and their families. We stand in solidarity with Israel at this difficult hour,” PM Modi posted on X.

Thanking PM Modi for his support, Israel’s Ambassador to India, Naor Gilon posted on X, “Thank you again PM @narendramodi-ji. Since we get SO MUCH support from our Indian brothers and sisters, I’m unfortunately unable to thank each and every one of you personally. Please accept this as my gratitude to all our friends.” At least 900 Israelis have, so far, perished, in the Hamas attacks while over 2,616 were injured, according to latest reports.

In a war update shared by Israel Defence forces (IDF) on X, the IDF said that about 30 hostages have been held by Hamas in Gaza in the ongoing conflict.

It also stated that about 4,500 rockets have been fired from Gaza on Israel after which the Israeli defence forces struck 1290 Hamas targets in Gaza.

The Israeli Air Force continues to extensively attack many targets of the terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip.

An IDF Spokesperson has confirmed 123 soldiers have been killed in the fighting, and 50 families have been informed that a relative was kidnapped by Hamas.

As part of its retaliation against Hamas, Israel has mobilised 3,00,000 troops in the last 48 hours. Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari informed about the mobilisation and said the IDF “has never mobilized so many reservists so quickly — 300,000 reservists in 48 hours.”This is the largest mobilisation since the 1973 Yom Kippur War when Israel called up 400,000 reservists, Times of Israel reported.

The Israel Defense Forces said it had finally regained control over the border with the Gaza Strip , 72 hours after Hamas terrorists blew through sections of the barrier and launched an invasion that saw over 1,000 Israelis slaughtered or kidnapped.

On Monday Israeli Air Force aircraft attacked several targets of Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip. The aircraft attacked a building used by the Hamas in investigations and an operational infrastructure located inside a mosque. In addition, an underground tunnel shaft of the terrorist organization and military infrastructures used by the Hamas were also attacked.

Congress’ Balasaheb Thorat slams Maha govt over bad roads and potholes

Congress' Balasaheb Thorat slams Maha govt over bad roads and potholes 9

The current triple-engine government has made the situation in Maharashtra very miserable. All the major roads in the state are riddled with potholes, making driving and commuting life-threatening. Congress Legislature Party leader Balasaheb Thorat raised an angry question, saying that every pothole in the road testifies to the incompetence of the Mahayuti government.

Senior leader Balasaheb Thorat had come to Nashik on the occasion of the North Maharashtra Divisional Review Meeting. On this occasion, he interacted with the journalists. Thorat said the condition of the Nashik-Mumbai highway is bad. A journey of two and a half hours takes four to four and a half hours. One has to wait for an hour at one place. In Bhiwandi, it has become difficult to find out which is the road and which are the potholes. Traffic congestion in Bhiwandi is becoming life-threatening. No one is ready to say a word about the stones on this highway, but the toll collection is going on without a hitch. This is the situation on most of the highways in the state. Dissatisfaction is increasing in the public mind.

Thorat said Congress raised its voice about the traffic jams and potholes on the Nashik-Mumbai highway during the session. The minister also promised to take immediate action on it. We had also explained the seriousness of this issue to the Chief Minister, but instead of improving the traffic jam, it has increased.

Bala Saheb Thorat said, “Every crisis reminds us of the incompetence of the government. Every bump the common man gets while driving through potholes on the Nashik-Mumbai Road is a reminder of the incompetence of the triple-engine government. A lot of tolls are levied, but there is no simple repair of the roads, and the government is not ready to find a way out of the traffic jam.

The question is: what should Raj Thackeray take regarding the toll? But there is a huge outcry among the people and the Congress is with this outcry of the people. The position of Congress is clear in the matter of road potholes. We raised this question repeatedly in the assembly. As there is no alternative from the government, there is a lot of anger in the minds of the people due to the huge tolls and huge potholes. Many people opt for trains to reach Mumbai. I request many ruling MLAs to try traveling on this road by train instead of train, so that you too will bring the pathetic condition of this road to the attention of the Chief Minister.”

The stock market began the week on a cautious note as global worries and tensions in Gaza weighed on investor sentiment.

The benchmark Sensex and Nifty indices opened lower on Monday, with declines outnumbering advances among Nifty companies.

At the start of the trading session, the Sensex opened 494.23 points lower, commencing at 65,486.61. Simultaneously, the Nifty opened 161.45 points down, initiating trading at 19,492.05.

As the day started, the market saw a struggle to regain positive momentum, with only 6 Nifty companies advancing and 44 declining.

Among the notable gainers were ONGC, HCL Technologies, TCS, Divi’s Lab, and Dr. Reddy, while Adani Ports, BPCL, TATA Steel, Adani Enterprises, and JSW Steel registered losses.

Global uncertainties, coupled with the ongoing tensions in Gaza, contributed to the market’s weak opening. Nifty opened with a gap down, setting crucial levels for bullish momentum above 19,767.

Despite two unsuccessful attempts to breach these levels, the overall market sentiment remained bullish.

Varun Aggarwal, founder and managing director, Profit Idea, said, “Global worries along with tension at Gaza making market sentiments really weak on opening. Nifty opened gap down and crucial levels for bulls to maintain bullish momentum is above 19767. Market made two attempts but unsuccessful. But overall picture remains bullish. Indian economy stand tall and look quite strong going forward. Major support for index remains at 18887”.

The Indian economy continues to exhibit strength, providing confidence for the future. The major support level for the index remains at 18,887, providing a potential buying opportunity for investors.

Market experts suggest that investors should consider selectively picking stocks in sectors such as IT, Media, Oil and Gas, Petrochemicals, and Metals. Additionally, there is significant potential for mid and small-cap stocks at current levels.

“This dip look likely opportunity for investors. IT, Media, Oil & Gas, Petrochemicals, Metals stocks looks good. Lot of scope for mid and small cap stocks from current levels. Investors should selectively pick stocks for medium to long term. OI data for Nifty suggests range of 19200-19800. Heavy put writing at 19000-19200 levels. Bias remains positive and these tensions will be temporary. Investors should not panic & think about next few months”, said Aggarwal.

Options interest (OI) data for Nifty indicates a trading range between 19,200 and 19,800, with heavy put writing observed at 19,000-19,200 levels.

Despite the temporary tensions affecting market sentiment, the overall bias remains positive.

Experts advise investors not to panic and maintain a long-term perspective, focusing on the next few months with optimism about the Indian economy’s resilience.

NC, Congress alliance sweep LAHDC-Kargil polls 14

After the National Conference (NC)-Congress alliance swept the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC)-Kargil elections, bagging 22 seats, INC candidate Stanzin Jigmet from the Karsha constituency thanked the people.

The INC candidate expressed gratitude, thanked the people of his constituency for voting for him and said, “This was the fifth campaign. It was a great experience. I will work according to the demands of the people of my constituency.”

Speaking to ANI after winning the 5th LAHDC election from the Gund Mangalpur constituency, independent candidate Syed Ali said, “I think the people chose me because they have faith in me. I will make sure that everything that is mentioned in the manifesto is fulfilled.”

Another winning candidate from the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) party, Mohd Jaffer Akhoon from the Thasgam Thuina constituency, told ANI, “I want to give credit to everyone who worked hard during the election campaigns. I am happy that I will be getting a chance to serve the people.” The National Conference and Congress alliance swept the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council-Kargil elections on Sunday, winning 22 out of 26 seats.

The counting took place on Sunday for the first key election in Kargil after the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, and the creation of the Ladakh Union territory.

The new council is scheduled to be in place before October 11.

In the 30-member LAHDC, four members were nominated by the administration, while the elections for 26 seats took place on October 4.

The NC bagged 12 seats, its ally Congress got 10 seats, while the BJP and independent candidates won 2 seats each after the results were announced for 26 seats.

Reacting to his party’s victory, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh posted on X, “The national media of course will blank it out, but trends coming in show Congress leading convincingly in the elections to the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Kargil, with an almost complete wipeout of the BJP. This is a direct impact of Rahul Gandhi continuing the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Ladakh last month.”

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday congratulated the National Conference and Congress for their “victory” in Kargil and said that “people of Ladakh” have spoken.

“Heartening to see secular parties like NC and Congress register their victory in Kargil. It’s the first election post-2019 and the people of Ladakh have spoken,” Mufti said in a post on ‘X’ following the results of some seats in the fifth Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) election.

The counting of votes started for LAHDC elections amid high-security arrangements on Sunday.

This time, 65 per cent of voters turned up in the Kargil district as per the cumulative figure of the 3rd round of voting for the 5th LAHDC elections.

Earlier last month, the Ladakh administration announced a new schedule for elections to the fifth LAHDC in the Kargil region, following a directive by the Supreme Court.

Doctors should not mislead public through signboards, visiting cards, announcements: NMC

Doctors should not mislead public through signboards, visiting cards, announcements: NMC 16

A doctor should not use an unusually large signboard and write on it anything other than his name, qualifications, titles, specialty or registration number, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has suggested, saying his prescription papers should also have the same contents.

It is improper to affix a signboard on a chemist’s shop or in places where he does not reside or work, the NMC’s Ethics and Medical Registration Board (EMRB) said in its E-Book: “Professional Conduct Review – Lessons from Case Archives”.

The book also highlighted that trust deficit in the doctor-patient relationship leads to litigation against the doctors and emphasised that the most common cause of complaints against doctors is due to a communication gap.

The commission stated that care should be taken not to mislead the public through signboards, visiting cards, announcements etc.

Medical practitioners may acquire skills and training in various areas related to a particular field, but the use of the title ‘consultant/specialist’ should be restricted to those who are qualified in the particular speciality, it said.

As an appellate body, the Ethics and Medical Registration Board of the NMC has been hearing cases of misconduct and passing judgments.

The need to disseminate the learnings from the complaint cases against doctors was felt right from the beginning, Dr Yogender Malik, editor of the booklet and member of the Ethics and Medical Registration Board of the NMC, said.

The thought was shared with the board and a group of experts was formed.

They worked very hard, going through hundreds of pages of each case and summarised them without losing the essence of the case and the message, he stated.

The case studies in the book show that it is very difficult for a patient to differentiate between ethics, conduct and negligence, the NMC said.

Doctors too feel that patients have no right to complain unless there is harm, the NMC stated.
