Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday said the Centre’s aim is to implement the resolution unanimously passed in the Indian Parliament on February 22, 1994, to reclaim the remaining parts of Kashmir such as Gilgit and Baltistan in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Rajnath Singh attended the ‘Shaurya Diwas’ celebrations in Srinagar today to commemorate the air-landed operations of the Indian Army at Budgam Airport in 1947, which ensured the first civil-military victory of Independent India.

On October 27, 1947, Indian Army troops were transported by the Indian Air Force to Budgam Airport to evict Pakistani forces from J-K, a day after the ‘Instrument of Accession was signed between Maharaja Hari Singh and the Republic of India. October 27, hence is celebrated as ‘Infantry Day’.

The Indian Army displayed the Pakistani attack through theatrical adaptation. The Dakota aircraft by which the army personnel landed here in 1947, was also displayed on the airfield. During the theatrical version of the attack, personnel of the Battalion 46 RR were landed here by an advanced AN-32 aircraft of the Indian Air Force.

In a conversation with the media, the 46 RR jawans said they are proud that they are part of the same regiment, which taught Pakistan a lesson 75 years ago.

Addressing the event, the Defence Minister paid rich tributes to the heroes of the Armed Forces and the people of J-K who laid down their lives to protect the unity and integrity of the country.

He stated that it is because of their valour and sacrifice that J-K remained an integral part of India and will continue to be in the future. He asserted that despite a number of stumbling blocks, India has risen time and again because of the courage and sacrifice of our soldiers and today it is standing tall on the strong foundation laid by them.

“The greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall. The incident of 1947 is one such instance,” he said.

Singh pointed out that some areas illegally occupied by Pakistan are still devoid of that progress. The minister added that post-independence the people of J-K were deprived of development and tranquillity for decades, until the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to the helm and abrogated Article 370, bringing a new era of peace and progress in the Union Territory.

He said, earlier some anti-India elements used to disturb peace and harmony in the name of religion, but now there is peace and tranquillity in J-K due to the persistent efforts by the government and the armed forces.

“Pakistan is fully responsible for inhuman incidents against innocent Indians in PoK. In the times to come, Pakistan will face the result of its atrocities. Today, the region of J-K and Ladakh is touching new heights of development. This is just the beginning. Our aim is to implement the resolution unanimously passed in the Indian Parliament on February 22, 1994 to reclaim remaining parts, such as Gilgit and Baltistan,” he said.

Singh recalled the valour of the first Param Vir Chakra recipient, Major Somnath Sharma, who despite being injured led a company and saved the Srinagar airfield from enemy clutches and in the process made the supreme sacrifice.

He also paid tributes to the bravery of other Gallantry award winners such as Brigadier Rajinder Singh and Lt Col Dewan Ranjit Rai, who gave away their lives to protect the motherland. He also remembered the former Chief Minister of Odisha, the late Biju Patnaik, who as a pilot during the war, made a valuable contribution to the movement of the troops.

He commended the crucial role played by the people of J-K who helped the Armed Forces in forcing the enemies to retreat and protect the sovereignty of the country.

Rajnath Singh termed the campaign of October 27, 1947 as one for safeguarding the country’s territorial integrity as well as the safety of the people. It was a campaign to protect the dreams and aspirations of the people of J-K, he said.

Union Minister Raosaheb Danve on Thursday brushed aside speculation that some legislators belonging to the Shiv Sena faction led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde may form a group with the intention of merging with the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The senior BJP leader said there was no need for such a move as the Shinde group and his party were in alliance and were running the state government smoothly and efficiently.

Queried on the issue further, Danve went on to claim MLAs of the Nationalist Congress Party and the Congress were on the verge of defecting, though he did not elaborate. “The opposition is spreading rumours about some MLAs of Shinde group wanting to defect. Actually, legislators from these opposition parties are seeking to defect,” Danve claimed.

The Central government on Thursday ordered a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into the October 23 Coimbatore LPG cylinder explosion in a car, considering the possibility of cross-state developments and the role of international elements in the investigation.

The Counter-Terrorism and Counter Radicalization (CTCR) division of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued the order a day after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin recommended an NIA probe in the case. A top government official said that the “NIA will take over the case very soon”.

Stalin, in a recommendation letter, to the MHA had requested on Wednesday to transfer the investigation of the case related to the car cylinder explosion in the Ukkadam area in Coimbatore to the NIA and directed police to ensure security in Coimbatore. Stalin’s recommendation followed a detailed review meeting held on Wednesday at the Head Office under the leadership of the Chief Minister regarding the ongoing investigation of the case.

Tamil Nadu Police so far has arrested six people in connection with the case, and have invoked the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Those arrested are learnt to be associates of Jameesha Mubin, who was charred to death in suspicious circumstances after an LPG cylinder inside a Maruti 800 he was driving exploded near a temple in Coimbatore around 4 am on October 23.

According to police, Mubin, 25, an engineering graduate, has been previously questioned by the NIA in 2019 for alleged terror links. His name is mentioned as the primary accused in the case. Five people arrested on Monday night were Mohammad Thalka, 25, Mohammad Asarudheen, 25, Muhammad Riyaz, 27, Feroz Ismail, 27, and Mohammad Navaz Ismail, 27.

However, the sixth person, identified as Afsar Khan, a relative of the deceased, was arrested earlier on Thursday. Khan is the cousin of the deceased. He was picked two days before by the special investigation team. On Wednesday noon, Police officials also conducted searches on Khan’s residence and took his laptop.

Since the explosion occurred in Ukkadam, a communally sensitive area, the state’s top police officers, including Director General of Police (DGP) Sylendra Babu and Additional DGP (law and order) Thamarai Kannan, rushed to the spot.

The DGP on Sunday said the police found materials used to make explosives in Mubin’s house in Ukkadam. They seized 75 kgs of potassium nitrate, charcoal, aluminium powder and sulphur which can be used to make explosives.

Coimbatore Police on Thursday arrested a sixth person for his alleged involvement in the October 23 car blast in the city, in which a man was charred to death, and is suspected to have played a major role in sourcing raw materials used in making explosives.

The arrested person has been identified as Afsar Khan alias Upsar Khan, a relative of Jamesa Mubin who was killed when the car bomb exploded. Afsar Khan allegedly procured some of the raw materials used to make the explosives through e-commerce websites.

“Afsar Khan a cousin of Jamesa Mubin who died in the Ukkadam car cylinder blast was arrested by police officials today. Afsar Khan was picked up two days before by the special investigation team,” Coimbatore Police said.

On Wednesday afternoon, police conducted searches at Khan’s residence and seized his laptop, according to Afsar Khan’s father-in-law. Initially, five people were arrested in connection with the case and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act was invoked against them.

Today a sixth person Afsar Khan has been arrested and Police said they are looking into a few more suspects.

Meanwhile, a court has sent all the five people arrested earlier in the case to three-days of judicial custody for further investigation. They will be in police custody until Friday.

The Coimbatore Police has said that they suspect that some of the explosive materials which were seized from the house of the deceased were purchased online from popular e-commerce websites.

Coimbatore Police Commissioner Balakrishnan said that the ingredients that were recovered from the spot are used for making low-explosive bombs.

“We are trying to find who all are connected to their plot and execution of the conspiracy and how the explosive materials were purchased. Some of the investigation done so far indicates that Jamesa Mubin had bought many items through Amazon and other courier services. We are investigating all the angles. When we visited Mubin’s residence, outside his house a few Amazon empty boxes were found,” Balakrishnan said.

The probe indicates that he bought some of the items online. We are investigating all the angles, said Coimbatore Police Commissioner. He said that apart from the arrest that has been made, the police have been questioning people and trying to keep the investigation open to find out all possibilities. The police official further said that the materials that were seized from the house of the deceased indicated that there was an intention to make more bombs.

Speaking about the day of the incident, the CP said, “The officers were on duty next to the scene of the crime. They saw a vehicle slowing down and when they tried to approach the area, they heard a loud blast in which a car went into flames. They immediately called up the fire service and barricaded the area. The FIR was registered on the complaint of the priest there.”

He added that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin recommended the NIA probe into the incident and the police will follow the procedure once they get all communication. “Tamil Nadu CM has recommended NIA probe. Once we get all communication, we will follow the procedure. As of now, the accused have been taken into custody. We will be doing a custodial investigation and the investigation will proceed till such time,” he said.

In the recommendation letter, Stalin asked to transfer the investigation of the case related to the car cylinder explosion in the Ukkadam area to the NIA and continued to ensure security in Coimbatore.

Stalin’s order followed a detailed review meeting held earlier in the day at the Head Office under the leadership of the Chief Minister regarding the ongoing investigation of the case.

The five people arrested on Monday night were Mohammad Thalka, 25, Mohammad Asarudheen, 25, Muhammad Riyaz, 27, Feroz Ismail, 27, and Mohammad Navaz Ismail, 27. The deceased was identified as Jamesa Mubin, a resident of Ukkadam.

Since the explosion occurred in Ukkadam, a communally sensitive area, the state’s top police officers, including Director General of Police (DGP) Sylendra Babu and Additional DGP (law and order) Thamarai Kannan, rushed to the spot.

The DGP on Sunday said the police seized from Mubin’s house in Ukkadam 75 kgs of potassium nitrate, charcoal, aluminum powder and sulphur, all materials that can be used to make explosives.

Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh knows how to take advantage of political weaknesses

Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh knows how to take advantage of political weaknesses 7

Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, convicted of rape and murder and out on parole, is busy making his reals. Convicted in 2017, the Dera Sacha Sauda chief got a 20-year jail term. He was granted a 40-day parole last week following an application filed by his family. Since he came out he made several videos, and for his glimpses, his disciples are overcrowding the ashram with the costliest gifts and donations. Diwali was one of the most celebrated days. God only knows how these criminal God-men have so much power to attract people. He is a rapist and brutal murderer.

Ram Rahim had been known for political clout, as his Dera has a large number of followers among Dalits, estimated to be over 70%. His Dera Sacha Sauda is the only one among the various Deras that openly asks its supporters to vote for particular political parties. Ram Rahim originally supported the Indian National Congress and aided them in the 2007 Punjab state elections esp. to wrest control of the Malwa region. Before the 2012 Punjab state elections, Congress leader Amarinder Singh, his wife Preneet Kaur and his son Raninder Singh visited Ram Rahim, asking him to extend his support to Congress.

However, Dera’s support to Congress alienated the party’s Sikh vote bank. In the 2012 elections, Congress performed poorly, and Jassi himself lost the election. The poor performance of Congress was seen as a signal of the downfall of Dera’s political power. Before the 2014 Haryana state elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader And Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Ram Rahim in order to attract the Dera Sacha Sauda followers. Ram Rahim reciprocated by supporting the BJP in the state elections and in February 2015, again in the Delhi assembly elections. He reportedly claimed to have over 2 million followers in Delhi.

His organisation supported BJP in the Bihar assembly election in 2015, and nearly 3,000 Dera followers campaigned for BJP in the state. In 2016, the Haryana sports minister Anil Vij announced a ₹ 5 million grant to the Dera for promoting sports, in Ram Rahim’s presence, which led to a controversy. Narendra Modi came to power with the slogan “ Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao”, save the girl child and educate her. But they ignored the controversy surrounding Ram Rahim.

In 2002, a woman wrote to the respective Chief Ministers of the states of Punjab and Haryana, and to the Union Home Minister, CBI, NHRC and the Punjab and Haryana High Court, describing an incident involving Ram Rahim. The Punjab and Haryana High Court sought a report from the District and Sessions Judge of Sirsa, after which Judge MS Sular conducted an inquiry and submitted a report recommending a probe by a central agency.

After the report from Sirsa, the Punjab and Haryana High Court ordered the CBI to probe into the allegations levelled in the letter. The Chandigarh Branch, CBI registered a case of rape under the IPC Section 376, criminal intimidation under Section 506 and insult to the modesty of a woman under 509. This letter was published in Ram Chander Chhatrapati’s four-page Hindi eveninger, Poora Sach in 2002.

A CBI probe was ordered into the incident on 24 September 2002. The investigations involved contacting 18 Sadhvis who had left the Dera by 2002. In the same year, Ram Rahim had charges levied against him for the murder of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati, who was writing articles at the time about Dera Sacha Sauda, and for the murder of Dera Sacha Sauda manager Ranjit Singh. In 2014 Ram Rahim said he had been impotent since 1990. The special CBI court rejected these contentions.

On 25 August 2017, a special CBI court in Panchkula, Haryana, delivered its verdict in a sexual assault case regarding a former Dera Sadhvi, finding Ram Rahim guilty of two counts of rape. Ram Rahim was taken into custody. More than 200,000 people had gathered near the court premises ahead of the verdict in Panchkula, Haryana. Following the conviction, there were violent protests in parts of India with reports of widespread vandalism. On 28 August 2017, the CBI court sentenced him to a total of 20 years in prison, 10 years for each of the two rape convictions to be served consecutively. Ram Rahim challenged his rape conviction in the Punjab and Haryana High Courts on 9 October 2017.

The timing of Ram Rahim’s release on parole has been criticized by the opposition, which pointed out that he is always released ahead of an election. This time, Haryana is heading for panchayat elections and by-polls for the Adampur assembly constituency.  Earlier, the Dera chief was released on month-long parole in June – ahead of elections to 46 civic bodies. In February, ahead of the Punjab assembly elections, he was given three weeks’ furlough. Political parties cannot afford to keep him in jail for a long time as there is fear of losing votes. These criminals take advantage of political weaknesses and survive against all legal challenges.

Ex Maha minister Anil Deshmukh moves to Bombay HC for bail

Former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Wednesday moved the Bombay High Court in connection with the Rs 100 crore extortion case filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation case.

This comes days after a special CBI court rejected Deshmukh’s bail plea on October 21.

The hearing on the NCP leader’s bail plea will take place on November 11.

Earlier, rejecting the bail application of Anil Deshmukh, the CBI court said that in this case, the statement of public witness Sachin Waze has been recorded by the CBI during the hearing of the bail application. He had been accused of asking policemen to collect Rs 100 crores illegally for him every month from bar owners in Mumbai.

“It is clear from the statements of the witnesses that Anil Deshmukh is the main conspirator in this whole case. The charges against him are very serious. In such a situation, if he is granted bail, he can influence the case and the witnesses,” the CBI court said.

“Whatever medical facilities Anil Deshmukh needs is being given to him, so he cannot be granted bail even on medical grounds. CBI’s investigation is still in the preliminary stage, so it is not right to grant bail to Anil Deshmukh at this stage,” the court added.

Deshmukh continues to be in judicial custody in Arthur Road prison as he is also being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a corruption case. Deshmukh was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in November 2021 and is currently in judicial custody.

According to the ED, Deshmukh had misused his position as state home minister and collected Rs 4.70 crore from various bars in Mumbai through some police officers.

Earlier on October 11, the Supreme Court refused to cancel the bail granted to the former home minister in the money laundering case lodged against him by Enforcement Directorate (ED).

On October 4, the Bombay High Court granted bail to Deshmukh in a money laundering case being investigated by the ED.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Wednesday recommended a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into October 23 Coimbatore LPG cylinder explosion in a car considering the possibility of cross-state developments and international relations in the investigation.

In the recommendation letter, Stalin has asked to transfer the investigation of the case related to the car cylinder explosion in the Ukkadam area to the NIA and continued to ensure security in Coimbatore.

Stalin’s order followed a detailed review meeting held earlier in the day at the Head Office under the leadership of the Chief Minister regarding the ongoing investigation of the case.

In this review meeting, the investigation being carried out by the police department regarding the case and the precautionary security arrangements made in the Coimbatore district were discussed; and the Chief Minister directed the police officers to further ensure security in the Coimbatore district regarding the current status of the case being investigated.

In this meeting, it was decided to make appropriate recommendations to the Union Government to transfer the investigation of this case to the NIA as there is a possibility of cross-state developments and international relations in the investigation of such incidents.

The move comes after Tamil Nadu Police on Tuesday invoked the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in connection with the case, and a day ago arrested five men who were associates of Jameesha Mubin, who was charred to death in suspicious circumstances after an LPG cylinder inside a Maruti 800 he was driving exploded near a temple around 4 am.

“Put images of deity Laxmi, Ganesh on currency to improve economic situation of country,” Delhi CM Kejriwal appeals PM Modi

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to consider including the images of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesh on currency notes in India to “improve the economic situation of the country”.

“Today I appeal to the central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On Indian currency there is a photo of Gandhi ji, let that be, on the other side of currency, a photo of Shri Ganesh Ji and Lakshmi ji should be put.

“As I said we have to make lot of effort to improve the economic situation of our country. But also with that, we need blessings from Gods and Goddesses. The whole country will get blessings if on currency notes, there is a photo of Ganesh Ji and Lakshmi ji on one side and Gandhi ji on other side,” Kejriwal said in his address.

“If Indonesia can do it; choose Ganesh Ji, so can we… I will write to the centre tomorrow or the day after tomorrow to appeal for it… we need the almighty’s blessings apart from the efforts to settle the economic condition of the country,” Kejriwal said.

Lord Ganesha is inscribed on the 20,000 rupiah note of Indonesia. India’s foreign exchange reserves during the week that ended on October 14 fell to an over two-year low of USD 528.367 billion, a drop of USD 4.5 billion from the previous week. In the preceding week, the country’s foreign exchange reserves were at USD 532.868 billion, RBI data showed.

According to RBI’s data, India’s foreign currency assets, which are the biggest component of the forex reserves, declined by USD 2.828 billion to USD 468.668 billion during the week. The value of gold reserves dropped by USD 1.5 billion to USD 37.453 billion during the week. The value of India’s Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) with the International Monetary Fund declined by USD 149 million to USD 17.433 billion during the week under review, the RBI data showed.

The reserves have been falling for months now because of RBI’s likely intervention in the market to defend the depreciating rupee against a surging US dollar. For the record, the Indian rupee has been weakening over the past few weeks to hit fresh new all-time lows as the US dollar strengthened against major global currencies.

T20 World Cup 2022: Ireland made history as defeating England by 5 runs via Duckworth-Lewis Method

Rain played spoilsport in England’s already shaky chase, helping Ireland defeat the former champions by five runs as per Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method in the Group 1, Super 12 match of the ICC T20 World Cup at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Wednesday.

With this win, Ireland has climbed to fourth position in points table with two points and one win in two matches. England sits at third position with two points and one win in two matches.

Chasing 158, England’s hard-hitting top order faced an implosion yet again. Medium pacer Josh Little dismissed dangerous opener Jos Buttler (0) and Alex Hales (7), reducing England to 14/2 in their 2.4 overs.

Dawid Malan started off playing some good shots, but England lost yet another star batter as Ben Stokes’ stumps were castled by medium pacer Fionn Hand for just 6 off 8 balls. The former champions were reduced to 29/3. Malan was joined by youngster Harry Brook and both took England through the remainder of the powerplay safely.

In six overs, England was at 37/3, with Malan (15*) and Brook (3*) at the crease. England reached the 50-run mark in 8.5 overs. The duo started to build a partnership, taking England’s chase in the right direction. At the end of 10 overs, England was at 63/3, with Malan (23*) and Brook (17*).

In the 11th over, Ireland missed two great chances to strengthen their hold on the match by dropping Brook and Malan in two consecutive balls. However, Gerath Delany undid the damage caused by catching Brook for 18 off 21 balls, breaking the 38-run stand between Brook and Malan. George Dockrell got his first wicket of the match. All-rounder Moeen Ali joined Malan at the other end and two southpaws had to guide England towards another victory.

Malan, who had been holding together England’s innings till this point, was dismissed by Barry McCarthy for 35 off 37 balls after being caught by Fionn Hand. Half of the English batting lineup was back in the hut for 86/5. Ali was joined by Liam Livingstone. Ali helped England cross the 100-run mark in 14.2 overs. Rain interrupted play at this point.

England were 5 runs behind the par score of 110 as they had scored 105/5 in 14.3 overs, with Ali (24*) and Livingstone (1*). The action could not start and rain exceeded the cut-off time. As a result, Ireland won the match by five runs. Little (2/16) was the pick of the bowlers for Ireland. McCarthy, Hand and Dockrell took one wicket each.

Earlier, fiery spells by Liam Livingstone and Mark Wood helped England bundle out Ireland for 157 in Super 12s of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 in Melbourne on Wednesday. Balbirnie top scored for Ireland with 62 off 47 while Lorcan Tucker played a knock of 34 runs. For England, Livingstone, Wood bagged three while Sam Curran claimed two wickets.

Put to bat first, Ireland got off to a bad start as they lost the crucial wicket of opener Paul Stirling. Mark Wood gave his team a big breakthrough as he dismissed danger man Stirling, who hit the ball straight into the hands of Sam Curran. Lorcan Tucker then came out to bat. In the 4th over, he slammed Chris Woakes for 11 runs hammering two fours in the over.

Tucker continued his blistering form and took Sam Curran for 14 runs in the 6th over of the innings. Tucker along with Ireland’s skipper guided the team to 92/1 at the halfway stage of the game. Balbirnie also shifted gears and slammed Chris Woakes for 18, slamming two fours and one six.

Tucker’s stint at the crease was cut short when he was run out at the non-striker’s end, with Adil Rashid deflecting the ball to the stumps off a drive from Andrew Balbirnie. Tucker went back to the pavilion, after scoring 34 runs in 27 balls, in the 12th over of the innings. Harry Tector then came out to bat, but could not do much as he was dismissed by Mark Wood without scoring runs. Curtis Campher then joined hands with Balbirnie to keep the moumentum going.

Ireland skipper Andrew Balbirnie brought up his half-century in 40 balls. In the 16th over of the innings, Liam Livingstone struck twice to dismiss well-set batter Balbirnie for 62 runs and new batter George Dockrell for a duck. Gareth Delany then came out to bat. Mark Wood gave another blow to Ireland as he dismissed Campher for 17 off 11 in the 17th over of the game.

In the 18th over of the game, Livingstone struck again to remove Mark Adair for 4. At this point, Ireland kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Sam Curran then gave Ireland a double blow as he dismissed Barry McCarthy for three runs and Fionn Hand for one. Ben Stokes then bundled out Ireland for 157 as he dismissed Joshua Little for a duck.

Brief score: Ireland 157 (Andrew Balbirnie 62, Lorcan Tucker 34; Liam Livingstone 3-17) won against England: 105/5: (Dawid Malan 35, Moeen Ali 24*, Josh Little 2/16) by five runs as per DLS method.
