Odisha MLA suspended for watching porn in house

Odisha MLA suspendedCongress MLA Naba Kishore Das was suspended from the Odisha Assembly for a week on charge of watching objectionable clips on his cellphone in the House on Monday, even as the entire opposition staged a walkout urging the Speaker to reconsider his order and wait for probe.

Speaker Niranjan Pujari, who first referred the matter to the Ethics Committee of the House for inquiry, ordered suspension of Das for one week after Government Chief Whip Ananta Das brought a motion, which was passed by voice vote.

Raising the issue during Zero hour, BJD member Pramila Mallick demanded expulsion of Das from the House. She said the alleged action of the Congress legislator yesterday had lowered the dignity of the House.

As soon as the Speaker gave the ruling for the suspension of Das, pandemonium began amid protest from Congress members and the House was adjourned till 12 noon.

When the House reassembled, Leader of Opposition of Congress Narasingha Mishra said that before taking any action against a member on the basis of allegation levelled by another lawmaker, there must be an inquiry and the accused legislator must be given an opportunity to present his position.

Action should be taken only after the member is found guilty after proper inquiry and not before that, Mishra said, adding that he, in fact, had asked the party MLA to express regret and seek an impartial probe into the matter.

Recalling an old ruling by the chair in the House on March 15, 1963, he said a member had made serious allegation against another MLA. The ruling was that any member levelling allegation against another should have enough evidence and the House must be in possession of evidence before action is taken, the leader of opposition said adding “I disapprove of any act of making allegation without having evidence.”

Youth should not fall prey to cyber-crimes – Part I

Life without the Internet, an innovative technology, seems almost unimaginable for most people in India. Today the Internet is intrinsic to media and communications, entertainment, politics, defence, business, banking, education and also administrative systems as well as to social interaction. The Internet disentangles this extraordinarily complex information and communication technology from its place in our daily lives, allowing it to be examined anew. Technology has historically been shaped by governmental, military and commercial requirements, but the development of the Internet is increasingly driven by its users. YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and many other emerging applications are shifting the way we express ourselves, communicate with our friends, and even engage with global politics. At the same time three-quarters of the world’s population remain effectively excluded from the internet. Packed with case studies drawn from around the world, the internet presents a clear and up-to-date introduction to the social, cultural, technological and political worlds this new media form is creating.

In the highly competitive world, students are striving hard for success. As the stakes are very high the younger generation vie for top honors and the social media is playing a pivotal role in making their dreams come true. So, blaming the youngsters for their inclination to operate internet, but at the same time they should not cross the limit and break the online laws. Whatever you mention in social media is passing through to people faster than light and one should take proper care before posting messages in respect of sensitive matters. There is no question of doing it knowingly or unknowingly but make sure before you post controversial messages on the social media. Misuse of password and hacking are a part and parcel of the present day working. And number of cases is referred to Economic Offence Wing to get clarity and justice of such financial frauds taking place in the Banking Industry. In this context, young generation should not become victims of cyber-crimes and lose their credentials in the society just to earn few thousand rupees. The greed may land them behind bars. As a regular and active user of facebook, I take all the precautions to protect my decorum and not to be too controversial on subjects relating to sports, cinema or even politics. As a senior citizen, I take this opportunity to provide proper feedback to my pals and train them how to go about the task of becoming a respected citizen of this country to keep away from the ill-effects of social media as well as cyber-crimes. It is a matter of convenience and that should not come in the way of cropping up fresh problems in a technology based society.

Increasing interest in internet is very much intruding and the youngsters fall prey to the web world. Even advertisements are screened showing a youngster sitting and operating his mobile by plugging earphones to frustrate the head of the family. To add to the woes even political parties are offering free Wi-Fi to appease young voters to pin their faith on select party so as to win coming Assembly elections with this favour. So the online culture is groping the children to darkness. The young generation sit late hours to browse through the net and gather good as well as bad information through their search and thus losing valuable sleep in the late night hours. At times the evil mind turn to commit cyber-crimes and the number of offence is on the increase as per Crime Records Bureau. This is a very bad precedence as we expect that the young generation is the future of our country.

“You know, the truth is, it’s very surreal,” he told Wired. “I don’t think anyone really gets used to being recognised around the world. It kind of feels like a video game at times, especially with paparazzi and people following you and things of that nature.

“But its part of who I am now. It’s part of my life as long as I choose to do what I do as a profession, and I love what I do. I think I survive because I don’t limit myself. If there’s some experience I want to have or a place I want to go, I do it. I think that’s how I bring some semblance of normality to my life.”

His latest movie, The Revenant, has Leonardo hotly tipped to win an Oscar at next year’s (16) ceremony, having previously been nominated for a golden statue five times. “My friends have named me the person they least want to do extreme adventures with, because I always seem to be very close to being part of a disaster,” he laughed. “If a cat has nine lives, I think I’ve used a few. I mean, there was the shark incident…”

When quizzed on what the incident was, Leonardo recalled how a white shark got into his cage while he was diving in South Africa. The predator was mere inches away from him and Leonardo revealed the men who accompanied him had never seen anything like it in the 30 years they’d been diving.

Gandhis should face the court proceeding boldly

The National Herald case has hit Mumbai Congress too, in the mid of controversy Mumbai Congress said it would launch a ‘jail bharo’ agitation if the Centre continues its “political vendetta” against the party and its leaders in the National Herald case. Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India did not find any merit in the case filed by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy. Even the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had found no wrongdoing and closed the case in August this year. However, the Centre sacked the ED director, who recommended the closure and reopened the case a month later. If Swamy had filed the case in his individual capacity and not on behalf of the party then how he is holding a press conference at BJP’s headquarters minutes after the court ruling, which indicates the vendetta. Many Congress leaders held a protest march in Mumbai against this issue including the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president and former Chief Minister Ashok Chavan.

In a big jolt to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi, the Delhi high court recently rejected their pleas for quashing the summons against them in the National Herald case and also turned down their plea for exemption from personal appearance in the case in the trial court. One of the points made by Congress was that no shareholders had complained that he has been cheated. Now, Shanti Bhushan has claimed that he inherited shares of National Herald and has complained in 2011 itself that this transaction is not fair. By this, either the lies of Congress have exposed or everyone is collectively trying to sabotage grand old party. At the first instance, the question arises why a loan was given to AJL when the company (as said) has a property of several thousand crores. Well! Even if we accept that there was a sentimental reason for which the loan was provided to the company then why the publishing business was never developed. Instead the whole company was transferred to YI for a pittance without either getting the cost or making proper assessment of the assets or shares. These questions may have to be answered to the satisfaction of the Courts before Gandhis to get any relief. An easy solution for YI is to restore the status quo ante.

Anyway, Gandhis should boldly face the court proceedings. It is a prestige issue. They should stop their men who are opposing the Gandhis for going to court. If they are leaders of the national party, they should be ready to challenge Subramanian Swamy. Helping or supporting somebody in their wrong deeds is not less than a crime. Congress is wasting crores of tax payers’ money by stalling the proceedings of the Parliament.

Motilal Nehru and Jawaharlal Nehru gave their life, profession and properties for the benefit of this country and their ‘so called’ descendants are only interested in self-aggrandizement. Further disruption in Parliament seems likely, as the senior Congress leadership decided to stick to its aggressive stance against the ruling BJP for the coming week. While stoking up its cry over the National Herald controversy, the party will be insistent on waiting for the government’s outreach on the contentious Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill. Sonia Gandhi felt that the party wasn’t getting a fair space in media to explain its viewpoint on the National Herald controversy. Ms. Gandhi asked the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad, to urge the party leaders with legal expertise to be more accessible to press reporters and news channels and rebut every allegation “point by point.”

Earlier, P. Chidambaram told some media houses that the acquisition of Associated Journals Limited (AJL) had turned its assets “doubly” secured today. He ruled out “illegality” in the transfer of shareholder rights from AJL to Young India, a non-profit company in which Ms. Gandhi and her son and party vice president Rahul Gandhi own 38 per cent shares. Justifying the shareholding rights of the Gandhis, Chidambaram said it was a “reflection of the Congress party structure”. The lender is a non-profit company. In fact, the High Court on December 7 seems to have dismissed the petitions of the Congress leaders in order to give them a fair chance to clear the name of the “legendary national party”.

Associated Journals Private Limited (AJL), a public limited company with immovable assets, formally closed printing and publication of newspapers like The National Herald, etc, in April 2008. At the time, it owed the Congress an accumulated debt of Rs. 90 crore the party had loaned it on interest free basis from time to time. This debt is considered as an asset to the Congress. The Congress declares that AJL has negative worth. It assigned the Rs. 90 crore debt owed to it by AJL to a charitable private company called Young Indian Private Company, which has a share capital of just Rs. 5 lakh. The private charitable company pays the Congress a sum of Rs. 50 lakh as consideration for transferring the Rs. 90 crore debt to it. The shareholding of the original 761 shareholders is reduced to 1 per cent. Young Indian acquires complete control of AJL which has real estate assets of at least Rs. 2,000 crore in prime areas of New Delhi, Lucknow, Bhopal, Mumbai, Indore, Patna, Panchkula and other places. The conservative real estate worth of AJL is calculated at Rs. 5,000 crore. Having possession of the vast real estate, the Young Indian declares that it will not engage in publishing a newspaper, including The National Herald, as it is against its declared objective.
