Farah Khan wants to ‘Stay Away’ from Shilpa Shetty

FarhaFilmmaker Farah Khan said that Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s aura affects her even now.

Shah Rukh and Kajol will soon be seen in Rohit Shetty’s Dilwale, the film, which reunites them after 2010’s My Name is Khan.

“Shah Rukh’s movie (Dilwale) is my movie. I shot Gerua with SRK and Kajol in Iceland. I have seen their magic. When a person like me is affected by their aura, then a normal person will also get affected by it,” said Farah.

“I should stay away from Shilpa as everyone would look bad in front of her. She is so slim. I know her since Baazigar(1993). People usually deteriorate with age but she is becoming beautiful,” added Farah.

Not making Sanjay Dutt biopic to propagate anything, says Rajkumar Hirani

RajkumarThe 53-year-old director, who will be venturing into an uncharted territory with the biopic was initially hesitant to take up the project, but decided to give it a shot as he found Dutt’s story very engaging.

Dutt, 56, has been serving a 42-month sentence at Pune’s Yerwada jail after he was convicted for illegal possession of weapons in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case. “I take so long to make a film. I will never make a film to propagate a friend. When they told me about the film I said I don’t understand this world, till I actually heard his story.

“The first time he opened up and when I heard his story, I found it very engaging. That’s the only reason I am going to make a film and I am only going to show him as he is,” Hirani said in an interview on the sidelines of IFFI.

The filmmaker finds the Agneepath actor’s life story very intriguing and feels it has all the possible elements, which will contribute in the making of a great movie. “It has many elements; it’s a father-son relationship. There is humour, pathos. I get sucked in great stories. So, when I was writing something this came on my lap and I thought that’s such a great story,” he said.

Ranbir Kapoor has been roped in to play the lead role and Hirani says the reason they got the Tamasha actor on board was because he has seen the industry inside out and also knows Dutt on a personal level.

We are showing Sanju’s life from the time he was 17 to now, when he is 55. So obviously Sanju can’t play it. We needed an actor who looks like a star, is a good actor, who can gain weight and become like that. Ranbir is a fantastic actor. He has grown a lot and he knows Sanju as well.” The director says Ranbir believed in the film and was eager to tell Dutt’s story on celluloid.

“He understands that world. It is always good to have an actor who believes in the film thematically. Ranbir is somebody who has grown up in a film family and he understands the pathos in his (Dutt’s) life.

Shouting obscenities at me, proving my point

Aamir Khan clarifies that he is proud to be an Indian and doesn’t have any intentions to quit the country.

Amir-KhanBollywood actor Aamir Khan who was criticised by political parties and citizens over his intolerance remark clarified that he doesn’t have any intention to leave the country. Aamir stood by his comment and said that he is “proud to be an Indian.” The actor had kicked up a political storm with his remarks at a function in Delhi about his wife expressing fear for their child in the current atmosphere. Some people came forward in support of Aamir while some others criticised him on social networking sites.

Aamir said that while he stood by the interview that triggered a huge row, the avalanche of criticism directed at him and his wife only proved what he had said of the situation in the country. The actor issued a statement which mentioned, “First let me state categorically that neither I, nor my wife Kiran, have any intention of leaving the country. We never did, and nor would we like to in the future. Anyone implying the opposite has either not seen my interview or is deliberately trying to distort what I have said. India is my country, I love it, I feel fortunate for being born here, and this is where I am staying.”

“Secondly, I stand by everything that I have said in my interview. To all those people who are calling me anti-national, I would like to say that I am proud to be Indian, and I do not need anyone’s permission nor endorsement for that,” said Aamir.

Hitting out at the protesters, the actor said, “To all the people shouting obscenities at me for speaking my heart out, it saddens me to say you are only proving my point.”

He thanked his supporters saying, “To all the people who have stood by me, thank you. We have to protect what this beautiful and unique country of ours really stands for. We have to protect its integrity, diversity, inclusiveness, its many languages, its culture, its history, its tolerance, its concept of ekantavada, its love, sensitivity and its emotional strength.”

Aamir has been slapped with sedition charges in Kanpur sessions court for his statement and the hearing is set to take place on December 1.

The case has been filed under IPC section 124 A (sedition), 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups on religious grounds) 153 B (Imputations) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief).  Hindu Sena activists protested outside Aamir Khan’s residence in Bandra as his security was beefed up.  At least seven activists of the Hindu Sena gathered outside the residence of Aamir at Pali Hill around 4 pm and tried to stage a protest.

“Aamir Khan has right to express as an Indian”

I don’t know why people are constantly condemning and attacking Aamir Khan? He just spoke his mind on growing intolerance. There are many Indian Muslims who are scared but their voices are not reaching to masses. First of all, it is us who make them heroes and not the soldiers who accept martyrdom while fighting on borders for our safety. Actors and politicians are hardly giving anything back to the society, however we preach and fight for them rather than supporting people who do something really good for the country. The views expressed by Khan and his wife are their personal opinions. That comments are against some of the horrifying incidences in recent time. There should be some constructive criticism so that if anything had gone wrong then we should recover from it. Why people want to generalize the opinions. After all, there may be assorted opinion on any subject. And where is the absolute freedom of expression which the people advocated about?

You may accept or deny any statement. Conversely, honest opinions should be taken for reforms in the society. It is simply wrong to expect that because Aamir Khan has a huge fan following amongst Hindus, he should not express his concerns about the existing situation in the country. On the contrary, even if after the great affection Hindus and other non-Muslims fans shower blessing upon him, there exists in his family element of fear, then instead of disapproving him, it would be sensible to evaluate his anxiety in the context that he is not the first and only person to have done so. Additionally, it is also very wrong to compare the responses of Kiran Rao and Swati Mahadik, wife of brave and late Col. Santosh Mahadik. Fear and pride are valid human emotions and both the ladies are right in their own ways. However patriotic, it is unfair to discount one emotion and approve the other.

Aamir is one of the few men with honesty and integrity in the film industry and one who apparently can think for himself and speak his mind. Unfortunately, in this case, he seems to have spoken his wife’s mind and not his. This is not only Aamir Khan but every responsible citizen is accusing Modi and BJP of creating an atmosphere of intolerance. Every such intolerant person is responsible as he or she remained silent spectator to atrocities of much wider dimensions which took place since last few months. All over India people are voicing their concerns after the brutality that society has been divided in the name of religion. Right wing activists are going violent and aggressive. BJP leaders are passing all harsh and controversial comments against minorities, what Aamir said is to give sense of security the leaders in power could have disapproved such remarks and incidences by reaching to justice. Where is he wrong? He never said all Indians are intolerant. He is being a celebrity wanted to bring it to the attention of the government who knowingly or unknowingly has contributed to the rise in the religious intolerance and the attitude of some of its supporters and even ministers inciting violence by their comments. As any well-wisher, he does not enjoy the freedom to express his views and accidentally mentioned his wife’s concern in bringing up the children in a society who is slowly moving away from its secular foundations. Communal and caste issues have always been a root cause of most of the violence in India since independence, but we see a rising trend now as reported in the Indian media and the world media.

While labeling Aamir being against BJP, he also supported Anna movement which was against then Congress led government. The feeling of intolerance is not because of BJP in power but the kind of hidden agenda that seems to bother normal civilians. The method of trying to control everything is the only problem – a different kind of moral policing – is also intolerant to what I as an adult want to do in my personal space.

Communal violence in India includes acts of violence by followers of one religious group against followers and institutions of another religious group, often in the form of rioting. Religious violence in India, especially in recent times, has generally involved Hindus and Muslims, although incidents of violence have also involved Christians, Jews, and Sikhs. Despite the secular and religiously tolerant constitution of India, broad religious representation in various aspects of society including the government, the active role played by autonomous bodies such as National Human Rights Commission of India and National Commission for Minorities, and the ground-level work being done by Non-governmental organisations, sporadic and sometimes serious acts of religious violence tend to occur as the root causes of religious violence often run deep in history, religious activities, and politics of India. Many innocent people give their life for no reason. It’s the citizen of this country who is suffering because of it, not just a Hindu or a Muslim. People fear for their lives. Aamir said he was “alarmed” by a number of incidents and his wife Kiran Rao even suggested that they should leave the country considering growing intolerance. Also, the 50-year-old actor supported those returning their awards, saying one of the ways for creative people to express their dissatisfaction or disappointment is to return their awards. Aamir said he also felt that the sense of insecurity and fear has been growing in the past six or eight months. Where was he wrong? Why should he be tagged as anti-national, when he is speaking as an Indian and the pain of minority Indian?

Despite jail sufferings, Indrani remains loyal to Peter, says he is innocent

IPEven after three months since she was arrested for allegedly murdering her own daughter Sheena Bora, Indrani Mukerjea has not accepted her involvement in the case. However, the 42-year-old former media executive continues to remain loyal to her husband Peter Mukerjea.

In her latest statement, Indrani is said to have defended Peter and has claimed that he was innocent and was being dragged into the case. Indrani became nervous after being told about Peter’s arrest.

Indrani was told about Peter’s arrest when she was brought to a special magistrate court for her remand last week. In the courtroom, Indrani told the CBI sleuths that Peter was innocent.

The “relationship” between Peter Mukerjea’s son Rahul and Indrani’s daughter Sheena Bora has been listed by a Mumbai court as one of the motives behind Sheena’s killing.

“On the basis of record and prosecution’s case two motives can be gathered..one is of relationship between step brother (Rahul) and sister (Sheena) and the other (is) the financial transaction,” observed Magistrate Mahesh R Natu, before whom Peter was produced for extension of his custody.

The court on Monday extended the CBI custody of Peter till November 26. The CBI had reiterated that financial transaction was the motive behind Sheena’s murder.

The agency had also said that Peter had disclosed that investments of crores of rupees were made by him and Indrani in the form of fixed deposits in UK and India and some immovable properties were also acquired by them during 2010-2011, but did not disclose the source of money for acquiring the said assets.

Flipkart’s Sachin Bansal supports Snapdeal in Aamir Khan’s intolerance remark

flipcartThey might be business rivals and might have hit out at each other in the past, but on Wednesday Flipkart founder Sachin Bansal came to the rescue of Snapdeal which came under fire following its ambassador Aamir Khan’s statement on intolerance in India.

“This is a flawed logic. Brands don’t buy into brand ambassadors personal opinions. @snapdeal shouldn’t face this,” Bansal, the co-founder and CEO of Flipkart tweeted.

Bollywood star Aamir Khan has been in the eye of the storm following his comment on Monday that intolerance was growing in India and that his wife, Kiran Rao, had thought of leaving India due to fear of safety for their child.

Many people were enraged with this statement of Aamir Khan and vented out their anger on Snapdeal.

Clarifying on Khan’s statement, Snapdeal distanced itself and said it is neither connected nor play a role in the comments.

“We are neither connected nor play a role in comments made by Aamir Khan in his personal capacity,” Snapdeal said in a statement.

Navi Mumbai in run to qualify for final ‘Smart City’ list

smart-cityDeveloped as a ‘planned city’ by CIDCO in the last two decades, Navi Mumbai city has undertaken several developmental works as part of its efforts to qualify for the final list of ‘Smart City’, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) Commissioner Dinesh T Waghmare said.

In a media interaction, Waghmare said he is glad that Navi Mumbai has been chosen among the 10 cities of Maharashtra under the Centre’s flagship Smart City Project.

The Navi Mumbai International Airport is also coming up in the city, developed by CIDCO (City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra).

A total of 98 cities have been selected under the project announced by the Centre in June this year, while the final list of 10 cities to be developed as ‘Smart City’ will be announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 26, 2016.

“We will be making a presentation at the State-level on December 5th, and if selected, another presentation will take place at the Centre level on December 15th. The final announcement (of the final 10 cities) will be made by the Prime Minister on Republic Day,” he said.

Expressing concerns over the transportation system in the city, Waghmare said the system in the city is in a bad shape and needs radical changes.

“We are working round the clock with the support, suggestions from citizens and stakeholders to present the case for ‘Smart City’. We are confident that we will find a place in the top 10,” the senior official said.

Areas of sanitation, water supply, transportation, and the issue of industrial waste require special attention, Waghmare said, adding that the city also needs a prominent monument or place, like Gateway of India in Mumbai, to have a distinct identity of its own.

In view to the security, he said there are plans to install more CCTVs (close circuit television) across the entire city and currently more than 250 CCTVs are mounted at different spots.

Cops won’t use Section 110 of BP Act anymore against couple

The next time you are in a public place you are unlikely to be troubled by the ‘moral police’.

The Mumbai Police have now decided that they will no more use Section 110 (public indecency) of the Bombay Police Act, 1951.

This is the same section which the police had used in the recent past to, in the words of critics, to harass citizens.

Mostly at the receiving end of ‘moral policing’ have been Mumbai couples.

In one such case, the Mumbai Police had detained nearly 40 couples from hotels at Madh Island and Aksa. Charges of public indecency were pressed against them.

The police, however, faced severe backlash from the society and the the then Mumbai Police commissioner Rakesh Maria had to warn cops against harassing couples in public places.

The decision to refrain from using Section 110 was taken by the police at a high-level meet last week.

At that meeting, Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Deven Bharti also passed the order refraining the police from acting under Section 151 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), which allows an officer to arrest a citizen – without a warrant or a Magistrate’s order.

Sharad Pawar slams Aamir’s critics, says his statement gave substance to ‘intolerance’ debate

Slamming Aamir Khan’s critics, NCP president Sharad Pawar said the tone and tenor of the reactions to the actor’s statement on intolerance actually lent substance to the debate on the issue.

“The reactions to Aamir Khan’s statement have given substance to the debate on intolerance in the country. To say that he got his wealth in India itself amounts to an intolerant attitude. He got his money from his acting and nobody donated it to him,” he told reporters at Karad in Satara district.

He said the comment that the actor could leave the country if he wanted to was also indicative of intolerance.

“The country is not any body’s private property,” the veteran leader said.

However, when he was yesterday asked about the actor’s comments, while he was at Pogarwadi in Satara district to call on the bereaved family of Colonel Santosh Mahadik who recently died in a gunbattle with militants in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, Pawar had said, “This (the brave officer’s sacrifice) is more serious than that.”

Aamir had on Monday said he was “alarmed” by a number of incidents and his wife Kiran Rao even suggested that they should probably leave the country, drawing sharp reactions from the BJP and sections in the film industry.

The 50-year-old actor also supported those returning their awards, saying one of the ways for creative people to express their dissatisfaction or disappointment is to return their awards.

He said he also feels that the sense of insecurity and fear has been growing in the past six or eight months.

Khan is the ambassador of ‘Incredible India’, a government’s campaign to promote tourism.

The BJP had yesterday fielded its national spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain to launch a counter attack on Khan.

“Where will Aamir and his family go other than India? There is no other better country like India and no better neighbour than a Hindu for an Indian Muslim. What is the situation in Muslim countries and Europe. There is intolerance everywhere,” Hussain said.
