Monica Bellucci has immense respect for Shah Rukh Khan

Monica-BellucciItalian actress Monica Bellucci, who is all set to play the Bond girl in “Spectre”, is impressed with Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan whom she met in Morocco.

When asked whether she would like to work in Bollywood, the 51-year-old star said, “Ah, Bollywood, I can’t say anything. I can’t sing. I can’t dance. But, I met Shahrukh Khan once in Morocco and he is a really kind hearted man. I am glad that I met him and I have an immense respect for him.”

Bellucci feels Bollywood films are entertaining and Indian cinema is doing well.

“Bollywood has many talented and good directors and in today’s time and Indian Cinema is doing really good. There’s something different happening out there,” she said at the world premiere of the movie in London recently.

“Spectre”, the 24th James Bond film from Albert R Broccoli’s EON Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, and Sony Pictures Entertainment, is set for release in India on November 20, 2015 in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu.

Kangana Ranaut may turn 85 on screen

KangnaActress Kangana Ranaut may feature as an 85-year-old woman in Shekhar Kapur’s next film.

“I have been offered to play an 85-year-old woman in a film by Shekhar Kapur. We are in talks for it. We are still working out things. It is a challenging role,” said Kangana.

Mr Kapur is currently working on Paani. Kangana clarified that this is not the film, which has been offered to her.

“I am looking forward to playing older roles. I don’t understand why people look down upon such roles. I saw a film Amour which was about old people. That film changed my views about them. Also I am open to playing the role of a mother. They are extremely pure and it would be beautiful to play such a character on screen,” added Kangana.

Kangana, who was last seen in KattiBatti, is busy filming Vishal Bhardwaj’s Rangoon, co-starring Shahid Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan.

I am a selfish actress: Deepika Padukone

DipikaActress Deepika Padukone says when it comes to acting, she is selfish.

“We all work so hard on every movie and want each one to have its own space to do it sort of properly. But I look at the overall picture, of course I am selfish as an actor,” Deepika said at an event.

Deepika is elated that this year has been one of the best.

“While ‘Piku’ has already released, now we have ‘Tamasha’ and then ‘BajiraoMastani’. So, as an actor I am very happy,” said the 29-year-old.

Talking about ‘Tamasha’, she said: “‘Tamasha’ is something that talks about breaking stereotype and expressing things differently. And I think we were expressing the character’s mood differently, how one could normally express that.”

The movie also stars Ranbir Kapoor.

AIMIM makes debut in KDMC

The party makes a dent in the traditional Muslim vote bank of Congress-NCP.

MIMThe All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) which had made impressive debut in the last year’s assembly polls by winning 2 seats has managed to win three seats in the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) 2015 election. The party had fielded seven candidates in the KDMC polls. The good performance of AIMIM in this poll has boasted the party’s morale and it is now looking forward to contest the 2017 BMC election. Muslims make up nearly 20 per cent of Mumbai’s population and would play a decisive role in a number of wards. All major parties like Shiv Sena, BJP, Congress and NCP are eyeing the Mumbai civic body election. The party is also keen to expand its foothold in other areas of Maharashtra.  AIMIM is striving to achieve “political empowerment” of the Muslims and Dalits by expanding the party’s base throughout the country in the coming years.

According to the results declared by the election commission the MIM candidates Tanzeela Ayaz Maulvi and Shakeela Khan have been declared winner. While Tanzeela Maulvi contested the polls from Gowind Wadi Ward no 34, Shakeela Khan won from the Kachore. Ward no 45. Instead of pitching its candidates on all seats the AIMIM contested only on seven seats. A concentrated campaign directed against both right-wing Shiv Sena and BJP and centrists Congress and NCP, along with an appealing approach towards Dalits is yielding the party positive results. The electoral performance of AIMIM grabs eyeball since the veteran coalition of Congress-NCP could secure only six seats, whereas a party which barely had its organizational presence in Mumbai has won 4.

Zamir Surme, AIMIM, President Mumbra said, “Initially we were reluctant to contest polls but our party activists had forced us to contest election in order to understand whether AIMIM can make any impact in the KDMC polls. We have received good response from voters. Those candidates who had lost the election have promised us that they will continue to work for the party’s development.”

Waris Pathan, AIMIM, MLA said, “The Congress-NCP has abused Muslim voters. Till now people used to vote for AIMIM by hearing Akbaruddin or Asaduddin Owaisi speeches. But now even the educated people like lawyers, doctors and teachers are also supporting our party. There has been lack of educational institutions in Kalyan. We had approached people to give us an opportunity to serve them and results are for everyone to see.”

AIMIM Chief, Asaduddin Owaisi had tweeted and congratulated party workers and posted “The government had banned my and Akbaruddin’s entry in Kalyan. Despite this the AIMIM had managed to win 3 seats which is a major achievement for us.”

AIMIM also had put up an impressive show in the Aurangabad civic polls held in April by winning 26 seats by luring Dalit and Muslim voters. On the other hand, the Congress could on only manage to secure 10 seats. The AIMIM has been eating into the traditional Muslim vote bank of Congress-NCP. The rise of AIMIM has already become a cause of concern for Congress-NCP.

On the other hand, the Shiv Sena emerged as the single largest party in the KDMC polls by winning 52 of the 122 seats. The BJP stood second with 42 and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) secured nine seats. Afternoon Voice had already carried the story Shiv Sena will sweep KDMC polls in the issue dated 2nd November, 2015. The contest, fought separately by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena, will impact the future of alliance which rules Maharashtra.

Shiv Sena gains upper hand over BJP

A large number of people had gathered outside Krishi Bazaar Centre to know the fate of their favourite candidates. This year both Bihar and KDMC elections were crucial for the BJP. The declining popularity of Modi and BJP has begun to show its consequences. The Shiv-Sena, which ruled the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) with the support from BJP for the last five years, but this year the rift between two parties is clearly visible. Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray was constantly in attacking mode whereas BJP was very arrogant in its approach.

Shiv Sena has performed impressively in the KDMC polls. Surprisingly even three of the total seven candidates of the Asaduddin Owaisi led All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) fielded in the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) 2015 elections have been declared winners. MIM candidates Tanzila Ayaz Maulvi and Seema Khan have been declared winners. While Tanzila Maulvi contested the polls from Gowind Wadi Ward no 34, Seema Khan won from the Kachore. Ward no 45. Kalyan-Dombivli is a traditional Hindu belt but winning of MIM shows the blunder which Congress has done with minorities. This is perhaps a reply to that.

The Shiv Sena delivered an impressive performance with a clear lead in as many as 38 wards. Pramila Patil, Devanand Gaikwad of Shiv Sena have already been declared winners. Likewise, Santosh Tare has also won the KDMC 2015 polls on the NCP ticket. Santosh Tare was the first corporator declared elected, somewhere NCP managed to open its account. However, in a major setback for the Shiv Sena its candidate and ex-Mayor of KDMC, Kalyani Patil lost civic polls by 50 votes against BJP candidate.

Finally, the Shiv Sena emerged as the single-largest party in the high-voltage civil polls after the Uddhav Thackeray-led party and the BJP decided to contest separately and the campaign was marked by bitterness between the ruling allies. The outcome of the civic polls may change the power dynamics in the coalition Maharashtra government.

Trends available for 118 of the 122 seats showed the Sena leading in more than 50 seats, the BJP ahead in over 40 wards, and a rout for other parties such as the Congress and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, all likely to be reduced to single-digit tallies. The Sena has fallen short of the majority mark of 62 by 10 seats but may seek the support of smaller parties such as the MNS instead of joining hands with the BJP.

In western Maharashtra’s Kolhapur, Congress turned out to be the single largest party with 27 seats and is likely to run the municipality with the help of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) which won 15 seats. The civic polls for the Mumbai suburb of Kalyan-Dombivli hit headlines after a bitter verbal war between the Sena and the BJP with Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray threatening to walk out of the state government after party workers complained the BJP was using police machinery to harass Sena workers.

The Sena-BJP combine has controlled the civic body for the past two decades but the final phases of campaigning saw an acrimonious public spat between Thackeray and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, underscoring souring ties between the allies.

The polls are billed as a semi-final for the prestigious Mumbai civic elections in 2017 and is said to be an important indicator of public perception in urban areas. The results are also a litmus test for Fadnavis’ popularity as it is the first big election since he assumed power last year.

The coalition has been rocked by controversies, most recently over Sena workers hurling ink at Observer Research Foundation chief Sudheendra Kulkarni for organizing the book launch function for a former Pakistani minister. Fadnavis spoke out against the incident and said he couldn’t let the state turn to a “banana democracy”, a comment that triggered angry reactions from the Sena.

Anyways, slowly Sena’s staunch Hindu approach continues to support them in firming their roots in Marathi soil, whereas BJP is losing its sheen with time. Let us wait for Bihar results to draw clear conclusion.

Shiv Sena sweeps KDMC polls with 52 seats, makes veiled jibe at BJP

SenaEmboldened after emerging as the single largest party in the keenly-fought Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) elections, the Shiv Sena on Monday suggested “those who have lost” to introspect – an apparent taunt to BJP which is its senior partner in the NDA.

Launching a veiled attack on BJP, the Uddhav Thackeray-led party noted that while “entire Maharashtra cabinet” (including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis) had turned up to campaign for candidates of the NDA major, it is the Shiv Sena which managed to win people’s confidence.

“Shiv Sena is Shiv Sena and no one can put it on back foot. Entire Maharashtra government (ministers) had turned up (for campaigning) in Kalyan-Dombivli. Still Sena has succeeded in winning people’s confidence.”

“This is Sena’s bastion, it never relied on use of money and power. We humbly accept the result and those who have lost should introspect,” senior Shiv Sena leader and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Raut said.

Shiv Sena on Monday emerged as the single largest party in the bitterly fought Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation polls bagging 52 seats but fell short of a clear majority in the 122-member body, the battle for which had witnessed acrimony with ally BJP hitting a new low.

The BJP came second winning 42 seats in the civic body, practically an extension of the sprawling metropolis, sharply improving its earlier tally of nine. The Congress-NCP combine was relegated to the fourth position with six seats behind the Raj Thackeray-led MNS which bagged nine seats.

Civic poll results reflection of misrule: Congress

Ashok-ChavanCongress said the results of elections to the municipal corporations of Kalyan-Dombivali and Kolhapur and 75 nagar panchayats (municipal councils) in Maharashtra was a reflection of Devendra Fadnavis-led government’s misrule of the last one year.

Congress also indicated possibility of alliance with NCP in Kolhapur.

Shiv Sena emerged as the biggest party in Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation while Congress topped the table in Kolhapur.

Reacting to the results, state Congress chief Ashok Chavan said Fadnavis had made the KDMC elections a prestige issue and taken a keen interest in it, but still BJP could not do well there.

About his own party’s dismal performance in KDMC, Chavan said the Thane district Congress was facing organisational problems for the last decade and a half. “We have not been able to overcome the organisational issues,” he said.

In Kolhapur, where Congress emerged as the single largest group but fell short of simple majority, Chavan said he would speak to his NCP counterpart Sunil Tatkare for post-poll alliance.

“NCP should respond positively,” he said, adding that Congress’s performance in the nagar panchayats too was satisfactory.

Indian team meets Chhota Rajan in Bali jail, likely to be brought to India on Tuesday

Little-RajanUnderworld don Chhota Rajan, who is lodged in a Bali jail since his arrest by the Indonesian police a few days ago, is likely to be brought back to India on Tuesday after the Indian officials met him in Bali jail.

The Indian team, comprising officers from the CBI and the Mumbai and Delhi police, reached Bali on Sunday and has since been working on his deportation.

Sources said that Rajan is likely to be brought to Delhi first.

Rajan is wanted in more than 70 cases of murder, extortion and drug trafficking in India.

The 55-year-old crime boss has been on the run for two decades after the Interpol issued a notice in 1995 for his arrest.

Rajan was arrested after he stepped off a plane from Sydney on October 25 in Indonesia. Rajan told Indian officials in Indonesia that his life is at risk in that country and wanted to return home.

The consular access to Rajan comes two days after Indonesian police submitted a report to the Indian Embassy about Rajan’s detention.

In the absence of an extradition treaty, the Indian authorities have already provided documents to their Indonesian counterparts about Rajan’s Indian identity to facilitate his deportation.

Reports said that Rajan’s arrest was part of a secret deal with Indian security agencies. Rajan is believed to have sought help from Indian officals as his network has been weakened over the years while the threat from his adversaries, particularly Dawood Ibrahim, has been huge.

At the time of his arrest in Bali airport, Rajan was carrying an Indian passport with the assumed name Mohan Kumar.

Shah Rukh Khan slams growing intolerance in India but won’t return awards

The superstar of Bollywood – Shah Rukh Khan – who turned 50 on Monday, answered a number of questions during a Twitter town hall organised by India Today, recently.

Shah Rukh candidly spoke about a number of issues including the growing level of intolerance and secularism.

Talking about the ongoing protests (returning of awards) by writers and filmmakers, SRK, reportedly said, ”I have not been in a situation like that. But I respect the people. If they think this gesture is going to turn things around, it is very brave, very honest. As far as I am concerned, I have not participated in something as meaningful as they have.”

“Intolerance religiously…not being secular in this country is the worst crime you can do as a patriot,” the Bollywood superstar added.

However SRK refused to return his honours. ”The country is becoming increasingly intolerant. Respect those who returned government awards, but (I) won’t return mine.”

Shah Rukh was honoured with Padma Shri in 2005.
