Singer Adele has admitted she wished she hadn’t watched the recent Amy Winehouse documentary, because it felt like she was “intruding”.
The singer said she initially made the decision not to see “Amy”, but a review changed her mind, reported Digital Spy.
“I loved her and I went through my own massive grieving process as her fan. I’d finally got to a place where I felt really great about the impact she’d had on my life, in every way. I felt really, really fond of it all. But then I read this review of it and that made me go and see it,” Adele said.
“I got super emotional with the funeral footage. But I wasn’t really that into the saved voice mails and stuff like that. I felt like I was intruding so I actually felt a little bit uncomfortable and that ruined it for me,” the “Hello” singer said.
“I love watching her, but I kind of wish I hadn’t seen it. But you know, I love Amy. I always have, I always will. Do you know what makes me super sad? That I’m never going to hear her voice again, other than how I’ve heard it.”
‘India’ in the western world is seen as a poor, over-populated (true) governed by right wing Hinduvta leaning government with intolerance becoming rife towards the minority governments. Recently Bill Gates in one of his interviews said that one of his favourite books was “The better nature of our angels” which states that human violence has decreased than the previous eras. Sure want to get my hands on that book soon because my first thought was that the author certainly has not read about our Indian political extremist or fascist parties lashing out at one another in the name of religion. This of course triggered the protest by writers and authors of Indian origin who know better. Also he must not have heard of ‘ISIS’. Anyway, perhaps the good side is that there is no world war taking place.
Thinking positively and seeing the good side with a perception of non-violence always works for development and that is why we have made such huge strides in IT and telecom sector. The binary numbers on which computers are run today was created by us. Yes everyone knows that the “Zero” was created here. This contribution revolutionalised the number value system that mathematics as a subject was to gain later. Indian mathematician Brahmagupta is said to have used this numeral way back in 650 AD to formalize arithmetic equations which is unparallel or unmatched by any other nation.
Also, Algebra, trigonometry and calculus or even the value of Pi – India was in the forefront of this knowledge realm with names such as Aryabhata, Bhaskara, Mahavira, Brahmagupta.
Buddhisim was also born here. Though Buddha was born in the present day Lumbini Vana in Nepal, Buddhism that some parts of the world has embraced today, originated in India and spread its wings along the Ganges Valley. Buddhism is the most peace-loving religion, which has remained unaffected by the modern vagaries. Besides Indians, some Dalits, some of the greatest personalities including Aung San Suu Kyi, Richard Gere, Tina Turner and Tiger Woods have turned Buddhists. India was home for some of the finest games that involved usage of logic. Whether it was chess, (known as Shatranj); or Snakes and Ladders – known as Mokshapath, India was where they were born.
The basic tenets of the martial art Kalaripayatta called Karate, originated in India in the sultry spaces of southern states such as Kerala and Tamil Nadu roughly 5000 years ago. Basic surgery originated in India way back in 600 BC, when Sushruta used it to treat his patients. He is the founding father of Surgery, as recounted by the world! The United Nations General Assembly has declared June 21 as ‘International Day of Yoga’. The Practice of yoga originated in India in Indus-Saraswati civilization 5000 years ago. It is still practiced in its pure form by many people in India, without altering its soul.
The inspiring winner Non-violence or Ahimsa has been India’s most significant contribution to the world at a time when in face of the most challenging times of this country it has helped us overcome many obstacles. So many authors may write about non-violence now, India was won by this philosophy by one man clad in a single cloth and shawl and we will always remember that.
Bollywood versatile actress Richa Chadda, who will be seen as a flirtatious law student in ‘Main Aur Charles’ opposite lead actor Randeep Hooda discussed about bad guys vs. good guys.
When asked does she find bad guys more attractive and good guys boring, the ‘Fukrey’ actress said, “Bad guys are great to have affair with but it’s the good guy you want to marry.”
The talented Bollywood actress then added that it would be wrong to say that good guys finish last.
‘Main Aur Charles’ is based on the infamous ‘bikini killer’ Charles Shobhraj, who is currently serving his life imprisonment in Kathmandu Jail, Nepal.
The movie is directed by Prawaal Raman and is all set to enthrall audience on October 30.
After featuring in films like ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’ and ‘Yeh Saali Zindagi’, actress Chitrangada Singh was seen grooving to ‘Kundi mat khadkao raja’, a raunchy song in ‘Gabbar Is Back’. She says there was no strategy behind choosing an item number.
Before ‘Kundi mat khadkao raja’, Chitrangada had done another song for Shirish Kunder’s ‘Joker’.
“I didn’t make any strategy that I would do item numbers. It just came my way. Mr. Sanjay Leela Bhansali (producer) called me for the song in ‘Gabbar is Back’ and Akshay Kumar was also a part of it. We came together, I heard the song and I took it as a part of job. So I did it,” said Chitrangada, who will perform in Dubai as part of ‘Asia’s biggest New Year bash’.
Chitrangada wants to perform on veteran actress Helen’s songs at the event.
“It’s very difficult to choose one song to perform from so many of her songs. I like to groove on any song of hers. But I would especially like to perform on ‘Piya tu ab toh aaja’,” she said here.
The actress has been seen in films like ‘Desi Boyz’, ‘Inkaar’, ‘I, Me Aur Main’.
Shahid Kapoor is clearly not bogged down by the debacle of ‘Shaandaar’ at the box office as he says there are “miles to go before I sleep”. Moving on, the actor is now focusing on his next project ‘Rangoon’.
“Time to prep for #Rangoon. Miles to go before I sleep. Keep it real you all. And believe. Because…,” Shahid tweeted on Thursday.
The actor also shared a photograph in which he is seen with a beard. He seems to be brooding while looking outside his car’s window.
To be helmed by acclaimed filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj, ‘Rangoon’ is a love story based in the 1940s, against the backdrop of World War II. It also stars Saif Ali Khan and Kangana Ranaut, and is scheduled to take off in early 2016.
Meanwhile, the much anticipated film ‘Shaandaar’, which marked Shahid’s first film after his marriage, bombed at the box office and also failed to impress critics as they described the movie as slow paced or avant-garde gone awry.
Treated like a fantasy film with a backdrop of an ostentatious Indian wedding, Vikas Bahl’s ‘Shaandaar’ also features Alia Bhatt, Sanah Kapoor, Sushma Seth and Pankaj Kapur among others. It was released on October 22.
Three names have been surfacing to succeed Chhota Rajan including Vicky Malhotra, D K Rao and Santosh Sawant. However, if one declared as successor then the gang will split.
After the arrest of underworld don Chhota Rajan names of his aide Vicky Malhotra, D K Rao and Santosh Sawant are cropping up to take charge of the gang’s Indian operations. Sawant, a native of Chembur, a suburb in eastern Mumbai, handles Rajan’s work in Australia and Indonesia. During 90s, he was active in real estate sector in Mumbai. Later, at the behest of Rajan, he moved to Malaysia and then Indonesia where he looked after the financial transactions of the arrested gangster. Sawant had in past survived two deadly attacks. The first attack was launched by Rajan’s ally Vijay Shetty when Sawant was in Indonesia whereas the second attack was launched by D Company when Sawant was in Australia.
If D K Rao and Santosh Sawant succeed Rajan then it will result into split of Rajan gang. However, reports claimed that Malhotra, a close associate of Chhota Rajan, is most likely to be annointed the new leader of the multi-crore extortion, real-estate and drug trafficking business run by Rajan. Malhotra is the last surviving aide of the Chhota Rajan gang who is powerful enough to take over the mantle of the gang in the country. By handing over the reins of the gang’s operations to Malhotra, Rajan aims to counter his rival Dawood Ibrahim gang’s network. This move also will pave way for gang wars if Dawood tries to stop Malhotra.
Rajan, who was on the run for nearly two decades, was arrested in Bali by Indonesian police acting on a Red Corner Notice issued by Interpol.
The arrest was made on a tip off from Australian police that 55-year-old Rajendra Sadashiv Nikalje alias Mohan Kumar alias Chhota Rajan, the powerful aide-turned-rival of terrorist Dawood Ibrahim, flew from Sydney to Indonesia’s popular tourist destination Bali, where he was arrested on Sunday.
Malhotra has been Rajan’s closest associate who has been with him for the last two decades through thick and thin. Malhotra’s loyalties did not waver even when the don split with confidantes like Ravi Pujari and Santosh Shetty after the Bangkok attack on him in 2000. Malhotra was last arrested from outside Ashoka Hotel in Delhi in 2005 but jumped bail in 2010.
He is since learnt to be juggling between Dubai and Africa. Interestingly, Africa is a relatively a new hunting ground for Dawood who now also dabbles in blood diamonds.
Giving the business to Malhotra is seen as an attempt to prevent Chhota Shakeel from gaining supremacy in Mumbai’s underworld.
“The D-Company has been trying to break Malhotra away from Rajan for long but has failed in the past. Early this year too, there was buzz that Malhotra and Rajan had split but the two were in touch through VOIP,” an official pointed out.
One month ago, Dadri lynching incident grabbed headlines and the topic was debated on every news channels. Suddenly, the issue is dying as Bihar elections are coming to an end. Such types of brutal incidents happen continuously, take news space, inquiry is set up but never reaches to conclusion or you can say to justice. I wonder why all of a sudden everyone zips their lips.
On September 28, Mohammad Akhlaq, 52, was dragged out of his home and beaten to death by a mob after announcements were made at a local temple that a calf had been killed. Akhlaq’s son Danish was also beaten and has undergone multiple surgeries, and is still recuperating in Hospital. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has described the incidence as “serious” violation of human rights but expressed its inability to take any action, saying the matter was already with the Minority Commission. However, under the statute, they have no jurisdiction to take cognisance of violation of human rights if already another Commission has taken note of it. Section 36 (1) of the Act states that the Commission shall not enquire into any matter which is pending before a National Commission, State commission or any other Commission duly constituted under any law. Commission also reacted to the cancellation of Ghulam Ali’s concerts in Mumbai and Pune and the ink attack on ORF chairman Sudheendra Kulkarni. They think minority is at risk in this country under present government.
The Commission has taken cognizance in the case of the Indian domestic worker, whose hand was allegedly chopped off by Saudi employer and has issued notices to External Affairs Ministry to take action in the matter. In the period between October 01, 2014 and October 08 this year a total 1,17,888 cases were registered in the Commission, out of which 98,460 cases were disposed of and in 19,428 cases, the final decisions are yet to be taken. Monetary relief was granted in 328 cases and a total Rs. 695,10,000 were recommended for payment of compensation. The Commission has majority of the complaints from Uttar Pradesh (53,333) followed by Odisha (12,457), Haryana (10,920), Delhi (7,648) and Bihar (3,163). The Commission has also received 351 cases from abroad regarding alleged violation of human rights in the last one year.
On the other hand, BJP lawmaker and former Mumbai Commissioner of Police, Dr. Satyapal Singh has described the Dadri lynching as a “small incident”. Whereas forensic reports already revealed that it was goat meat and not a calf beef. Singh resigned from the Indian Police Service on 31 January 2014 to join the Bharatiya Janata Party. He contested the 2014 Lok Sabha election from Baghpat constituency and won. Singh is the first serving Mumbai Police Commissioner to resign. On 11th December, 2014, he was appointed as the Vice President of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Uttar Pradesh (UP) Working Committee. This is not the first time he has invited the controversy in his life; he is been famous for making divisive statements time and again.
On 2 June 2014, a prostitution racket was busted by Mumbai police being run from a flat owned by Satyapal Singh but leased out to a well-known business house. He said, it was leased out to a real estate firm Indiabulls for last 33 months and stated his plans to sue them for maligning his image. On 2 August 2014, Mumbai Police issued a notice asking him to vacate his official Bandra bungalow within one week and pay a fine of Rs. 8.72 lakh for overstaying the government residence, which is in his occupation for last 22 years. Satyapal Singh was not only an inefficient police officer but also below grade communal politician. Such people in department and politics is not only curse to the nation but also a blot on humanity. Anyway, looking at such loose talk leaders in the party, BJP had recently warned its leaders against making intemperate comments on the mob killing that has caused outrage across the nation. Narendra Modi, who has been criticized by his opponents for not speaking out against the Dadri incident and attacks on rationalists, sent out a strong message last week at a rally in Bihar.
In the meantime to extend his own political interest, Akhilesh Yadav has alleged that Dadri incidence is a “part of a pre-meditated strategy of the BJP”. He cited a preliminary investigation by his government to say, “Facts indicate that Dadri was part of a pre-meditated strategy of the BJP and those affiliated to the party”. He also said that the BJP has been changing issues in UP very fast to divide communities and divert the political debate. First it was love jihad, then ‘Ghar Wapsi’ or conversions. It even created trouble in Moradabad over the use of loud speakers. On September 28, a 100-strong mob attacked and killed Akhlaq over rumours that he had slaughtered a calf and stored and eaten beef. Amid outrage and an intense political debate on cow slaughter, several BJP leaders visited the tense Dadri region and made controversial speeches.
This incidence has created anger in helpless people but unless government’s own motive won’t change such incidences will never come in control.
Whatever might be the election results, how long, these selective killing will happen, in the name of elections, and how long people are going to tolerate such incidences, just by doing debates and discussions.
While the national media continues to speculate over underworld don Chhota Rajan’s sudden arrest in Indonesia’s Bali, it has now emerged that the fugitive dreaded gangster was also running out of time to save his life from his arch-rival Dawood Ibrahim who had tasked his close shooters to eliminate him.
Pakistan-based underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s closest aide Chhota Shakeel had vowed to kill Chhota Rajan before this Diwali.
With Chhota Shakeel and his sharp shooters hot on his trail, probably this could have been the main reason behind Rajendra Sadashiv Nikalje alias Chhota Rajan’s tamely surrendered to the law in Indonesia on Sunday.
Rajan’s falling health – which is believed to be the prime reason for his ‘surrender’- suffers from kidney failure, and has been on the run ever since he split from the Dawood gang after the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.
Dawood’s lieutenant Shakeel has been pursuing Rajan ever since.
The most recent attempt on Rajan’s life was made by the Dawood gang just about two months ago in Australia where the former had shifted earlier this year.
In a pattern of betrayal that has become the hallmark of the revenge saga, Rajan is believed to have met his old henchman Anil Riteshwar in Australia.
Interestingly, Riteshwar had played a crucial role in the killing of Sharad Shetty, the D-Company’s third-in-command, in 2003.
Shetty’s killing dealt a major blow to the Dawood gang, as he was the money brains of the group.
“It was natural for Rajan to trust Anil Riteshwar,” a police officer involved in Rajan’s arrest was quoted as saying in the report.
Rajan should have known, however, that Riteshwar had stayed in Dubai after Sharad Shetty’s killing, and it could not have been possible without Shakeel’s blessings. The only caution Rajan exercised while meeting Riteshwar was that he did not meet him at the house where he used to live, the officer said further.
After the students of FTII ended their 139-day long strike against the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as the chairman of the institute, filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee and nine others have returned their national awards.
It has been reported that Dibakar and other filmmakers have taken this step over ‘growing intolerance’ and in support of FTII students. Also, the decision to return the national award honour comes in the wake of the killings of rationalist M M Kalburgi.
Meanwhile, the FTII students declared that they might have called off the strike but ‘peaceful’ protests against Gajendra Chauhan’s appointment will continue.
Banerjee and other filmmakers said their decision to return the awards was taken in view of the apathy displayed by the government in addressing the students issues and the general environment of intolerance against debate.
“I am not here out of anger, outrage. Those emotions have long been exhausted. I am here to draw attention. Returning my very first National Award which I received for ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla’ is not easy. It was my first film and for many my most loved,” said Banerjee.
“If there is intolerance of debate, of questioning and usually intolerance of a student body wanting to have a better teaching environment and that intolerance manifests in apathy, then that is what we are protesting against,” he said.
Noted documentary maker Anand Patwardhan said the government has encouraged “extreme right wings”.
“I haven’t seen so many incidents happen at the same time. This is a sign of what is beginning to happen and I think that is why people are responding all over the country in different ways,” he said, referring to the instances of writers returning their Akademi awards.
“We are focusing on the FTII. This is a struggle that we are supporting from the beginning.
The FTII students today ended their 139-day-old strike to return to the classes against the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan, but said they will continue to seek his removal.
Banerjee said the decision of the students to resume classes is pragmatic as they are merely being responsible towards their colleagues and juniors.
“What do you expect the students to do? The student bodies who are protesting have got two responsibilities – one is to protest for their rights and the other is to see that their colleagues, co-students and their juniors must not suffer.”
The director said that he was “against the trivialisation” of the students protests by diverting attention from the core issues.
“… What other proof do you need of their sincerity and the validity of the attitude of the students of FTII than this. Not a single bus has been burnt, not a single stone has been thrown, they have only gone for debates and discussion.”
Other filmmakers who have returned their awards are Nishtha Jain of “Gulabi Gang” fame, Paresh Kamdar, Kriti Nakhwa, “Hunterrr” director Harshvardhan Kulkarni, Hari Nair, Rakesh Sharma, Indraneel Lahiri and Lipika Singh Darai.
