“They can take a DNA test or whatever they want. I am not running anywhere. I will pass the DNA test,” Mahato said.

He added that he was extremely happy now that Geeta would be returning soon.

Since then, she has been in the care of the Edhi Foundation.

Bihar polls: BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha accuses party of sidelining him

BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha on Sunday accused the party leadership of sidelining him in the assembly elections in Bihar, and urged them to see how “your own Bihari (Babu) has been treated”.

“My party workers, friends, supporters and well-wishers wonder why I am not seen on the campaign trail,” the veteran actor said. “I assure them it is not by choice.”

He said he had been “kept out thanks to insecure local leaders who we know very well… who have fed matter of convenience stories to the party leaders”.

He said it was “not a question of Bihari vs Bahari but of how your own Bihari (Babu) has been treated by own people for no fault.

“However, in the larger interest of Bihar and its people, I hope wish and pray that our people get the support and trust of the voters,” he added.

Sinha, who has fallen foul of the Bharatiya Janata Party after publicly praising Chief Minister and JD-U leader Nitish Kumar, said about the campaign trail: “Muhabbat karne waale, kam na honge. Teri mehfil mein lekin, hum na honge.”

Rahul Gandhi’s leadership credentials will be challenged: Indira’s aide ML Fotedar

A close aide of former Prime Minister late Indira Gandhi has come out in the open to question the leadership credentials of Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and says it is only a matter of time when it will be challenged within the party along with that of his mother and party president Sonia Gandhi.

Rahul is a reluctant politician like his father Rajiv Gandhi and has his “limitations” as he has not been groomed for the job unlike his father whom Indira Gandhi herself groomed, says veteran Congress leader ML Fotedar in his yet to be released book “The Chinar Leaves”.

Fotedar, who rose to become a Union Minister, also makes critical remarks about Sonia saying despite her many virtues, political management is not one of them and her obsession to promote Rahul further created problems in the party.

Amid a raging debate on when Rahul would take over the reins of Congress, Fotedar, in the HarperCollins publication, says Rahul had “certain stubbornness” and his motivation to become a leader was “not very strong”.

“Rahul Gandhi’s leadership is unacceptable to the people of this country and Sonia Gandhi has her best years behind her. The party has no one to provide direction. It refuses to learn.

“It has made wrong choices while appointing opposition leaders in both Houses of Parliament. It has made wrong choices about how to deal with the challenges in the Assembly elections. In fact, there is nothing right which the party has done or is doing. It saddens me that the Nehru?Indira legacy has reached a cul-de-sac,” he said.

He goes on to add that “Since Soniaji still is the unchallenged leader of the party, it should be her responsibility to reinvent the party. Blaming Rahul in a way is shifting the blame from the Congress president to someone who has yet to display his leadership skills.

“History is threatening to repeat itself. It is a matter of time before Soniaji’s and Rahul’s leadership is challenged from within the party. I will be observing closely how they stand up to this looming challenge, because Sonia is not Indira and Rahul is not Sanjay,” the Congress leader said.

On Sonia, the former Nehru-Gandhi family loyalist said she will go down in history as the longest serving Congress president “even if not the most distinguished”.

Utility of Marine Incinerators

We use incinerators on board ships for burning off the sludge, oily rags, paper and cardboard. The important associates of the incinerators are the waste oil tanks where we evaporate the water content by opening steam to the coils of these tanks. It is important to check from bottom to top to understand what other fittings are there, if any, connected with uptakes of these tanks, such as the exhaust fan to aid evaporation and homogenizers fitted on these tanks to churn the sludge for making it more burnable.

We have been successful in minimizing accidents involving incinerators by ensuring that these are run only during day time when more manpower is available in the engine room to keep a regular watch on them. Things could go wrong quickly such as burning failure, breaking of a copper pipe, overheating at the burner mouth, uptake temperature going high etc. Burning failure can occur if oil pressure is not correct, if water finds its way or oil temperature ( sludge temperature too high or too low, a good temp experienced was at 90 deg C). Failure of V belt also has contributed to failures. FD fan should be kept in well maintained condition because there is no substitute for this one.

On one incinerator, the furnace temperature sensor used to get burnt because of its close proximity to flames. We had to provide sheathing to it by locating a suitable tube, inside which to fix the sensor. Overheating of refractory due to flame impingement has also contributed to failures on many occasions. The refractory needs to be inspected and rebuilt from time to time. Filters in the system need to be kept clean. Logging the evaporation and sludge burning in oil record books need to be done carefully besides burning of the oily rags ( indicate quantity) , according to the instructions given in the beginning of the Oil record book itself. Check up with the owners if you are using the latest book prescribed by your flag state.

When evaporation capacity reduces, we need to clean the coils of the waste oil tank. Check if the high temperature alarm functions correctly (normally set at 125 deg C). The condition of uptake exhaust fan bearings should be checked as also uptake high temperature alarm and furnace high temperature alarm. There is an indicator to show the furnace temperature and it should be kept in good operational condition. Follow the instructions given in operation manual, method and periodicity of checking the alarms and log it too in the oil record book under maintenance heading.

Pawar, Tatkare established 308 bogus Companies : Kirit Somaiya

Reciprocating the allegation by Kirit Somaiya, Nawab Malik has declared him as the ‘item girl’ of politics.

KiritAt a time when the Anti-corruption Bureau is questioning state Nationalist Congress Party president Sunil Tatkare, NCP leader and former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar for their alleged involvement in the irrigation scam, BJP MP Kirit Somiaya has made a shocking revelation that both Pawar and Tatkare had established 308 bogus companies. In a letter addressed to the Finance Secretary and RBI governor Kirit Somaiya has urged them to take strict action against Pawar and Tatkare.

He also alleged that the duo had withdrawn 800 crore rupees from Union Bank for bribing F.A . construction officials. Somaiya mentioned that in order to conceal information they also had prepared bogus bills. The construction cost of the Kondhane dam had increased on account of misappropriation of funds. Thus the letter written by Kirit Somaiya has invited further trouble for Pawar and Tatkare.

Aam Aadmi Party leader, Anjali Damania who had earlier alleged that Nitin Gadkari tried to prevent Kirit Somaiya from filing a public interest litigation in the Bombay high court in the multi-thousand crore irrigation scam has demanded the list of all 308 companies from Somaiya. She tweeted, “Mr @KiritSomaiya? Who owns the cos? Give all the details to the media? Why release partial list? Give list of all 308 cos.”

“Let’s keep aside who exposed. Just one question @KiritSomaiya. Did ACB leak the figures and findings to you? Is ACB working to promote BJP?” How did you know that 800 cr cash was withdrawn by FA from Union Bank? Did you get it by RTI? Or ACB? Trying to take credit?.”

NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik said, “Kirit Somaiya is the item girl of politics. Somaiya should call for a probe into the irrigation scam to know the truth. If charges are proved against the accused then action should be taken against them. After all he is a part of the ruling BJP government.”

This was the first time a member of the Pawar family was grilled by an anti-corruption agency in Maharashtra. Sources said that Pawar was quizzed on various aspects of the cost-escalation of the irrigation project. The scam, initially pegged at Rs 70,000 crore, had thrown up names of several ministers and senior officials. It was unearthed after whistleblower Vijay Pandhare joined hands with Aam Aadmi Party leader Anjali Damania to get details under RTI, which stated contracts were scaled up several times with allegations of not even 0.1 percent work being completed.

Deplorable condition of Indian railways

As it is Indian railways have witnessed several scams which are causing damage and now we have more scoundrels breeding, who are not doing their job perfectly. A Special CBI court remanded to 14-day judicial custody the three accused arrested in connection with alleged corruption in supply of packaged drinking water in Rajdhani and other superfast trains. Indian railway always has incurred losses due to massive corruption. People’s comfort is always neglected. If you travel by Rajdhani you will realise looking at the bed sheets, pillows to food and all the other amenities provided by the railways are sub-standard. In the recent time, IRCTC incurred losses due to corruption in supply of packaged water on trains.

The CBI recovered Rs 20 crore in cash during searches at 13 locations against two former Northern Railways officials and seven private firms in connection with alleged corruption in supply of packaged drinking water other than mandatory ‘Rail Neer’ in premium trains. A case has been registered against the then Chief Commercial Managers (PS and Catering) of Northern Railways M S Chalia and Sandeep Silas. The Ministry of Railways announced earlier that two officials whose homes were raided by the CBI stand suspended.

The agency has also booked private companies RK Associates Pvt Ltd, Satyam Caterers Pvt Ltd, Ambuj Hotel and Real Estate, PK Associates Pvt Ltd, Sunshine Pvt Ltd, Brandavan Food Product and Food World under Prevention of Corruption Act provisions. Silas has served as the private secretary of a former Union Minister. It is alleged that the accused had shown favour to these private firms in supply of cheap packaged drinking water (PDW) other than mandatory ‘Rail Neer’ in premium trains including Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express. The Railway Board had prescribed that IRCTC shall provide Rail Neer at a rate of Rs 10.50 (approx) per bottle to the private caterers and the private caterers will be paid Rs 15 (approx) per bottle for supplying the same to passengers in premium trains.

However, the private suppliers in order to obtain undue gain, were allegedly supplying cheap packaged water, other than “Rail Neer”, available in the market at a rate of Rs 5.70 to 7.00 (approx) per bottle, thereby causing gain to themselves and loss to the exchequer. The accused public servants did not take any action against the private parties providing catering services in the premium trains despite repeated requests of IRCTC for non-picking of allotted quota of ‘Rail Neer’ by Private Caterers. Directions of Railway Board to ensure supply of “Rail Neer” in premium trains were also ignored by the official’s thereby causing undue pecuniary advantage to the private parties and corresponding loss to IRCTC. The accused were produced before the court after completion of their five-day CBI custody.

The Indian Railways with its vast assortment of railway networks comprising 115,000 kilometres of track over a route of 65,000 km covering 7,500 stations is one of the world’s largest railway networks and transports more than 25 million passengers annually. Apart from an important means of transport the Indian Railways have been a great integrating force for more than 150 years. Railways in India bind the economic life of the country as well as accelerate the development of the industry and agriculture. With revenues of over 11 million which mainly comes from freight and passenger tickets, the condition of Indian Railways remains deplorable and shabby. Due to its old and outdated tracks resulting in speed restrictions and many serious railway accidents and loss faced by the railways due to a large number of passengers travelling without tickets, the common man has to bear the brunt of travelling in trains that are of obsolescent and outmoded technology and face problems while commuting in these trains.

Railway ministry boast about many things but the commuters have to travel in unpardonable and inexcusable conditions, they have to travel in unhygienic ambience. Despite being the lifeline for a majority of the population in India and the principal mode of transportation for freight and passengers in India, it is not deemed easy to travel in the trains due to the bitter experience one has while travelling. People not only have to incur financial losses but they have to bear mental harassment. Sometimes trains are delayed, sometimes ticket booking inconvenience, sometimes there is water scarcity in coaches, toilets are never clean and sanitation remains a big challenge. From dry-cleaning of bed sheets and blankets to serving quality of food, everything is compromised and no proper checking is ever done, no vigilance, even supervisors are bribed, ticket collectors are almost greedy. India railways was never kind to middleclass or poor travellers.

Crores of rupees are sanctioned in budget for the upgradation of Indian railways, every year fare hikes are imposed, inspite of taking these steps the condition of railway is Ram Bharose. God knows when things are going to change.
