Mumbai Metro One to continue with discounted fares till Nov 30

MetroWith the Maharashtra government yet to reach a consensus over Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro Rail fare, Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL), which is operating the corridor, said it will continue to charge the current fare of Rs. 10 to Rs. 40 till November 30.

“MMOPL will continue to charge the current discounted fare of Rs. 10 to Rs. 40 till November 30,” MMOPL spokesperson said in a statement.

Based on the advisory of the Fare Fixation Committee (FFC), MMOPL has already approached the state government and Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to achieve the dual objective of affordable fare and business sustainability, it said.

Due to the impasse between the state authorities and MMOPL over the fare after FFC recommended a hike ranging between Rs. 10 and Rs. 110, the company had extended the current fare deadline till October 31.  Mumbai Metro is a rapid transit system serving the city.

It is designed to reduce traffic congestion and supplement the overcrowded Mumbai suburban railway network. The system’s first line on Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar route started operating last year.

Sena hits back at Jaitley, says don’t need lecture

UdhdhavIrked by Union Minister Arun Jaitley’s remarks disapproving of its aggressive protests, Shiv Sena today hit back saying nobody should lecture Maharashtra on tolerance and claimed it is the only party which has “never betrayed people” for the sake of power.

Taking a jibe at BJP, the ally said those in government should have supported Shiv Sena in its national mission of targeting Pakistan, but power corrupts one’s mind and “100 Baramatis can be seen.”

“Our country could be really developed if we have 100 towns developed like Baramati,” Jaitley had said recently in Baramati, the home town of NCP chief Sharad Pawar. The Sena said governments have changed but issues of concern have remained the same.

“In Kashmir, supporting Mufti Mohammed Sayeed and in Mumbai giving protection to a former Pakistan minister strengthens tolerance,” it sarcastically said in an editorial in Sena mouthpiece ‘Saamana’ said.

Sena, a partner of the BJP in the state as well as at the Centre, has been under attack from various quarters for its aggressive protests against cultural and sporting relations with Pakistan after its activists blackened the face of Sudheendra Kulkarni and stormed the BCCI office.

Jaitley had on Tuesday deprecated the rising incidents of intolerance and vandalism, calling them an “extremely disturbing trend” and had said there is a need to convey differing opinion in a more democratic manner through debate. The Sena editorial wondered how India’s culture of tolerance was threatened due to Sena’s act of preventing Pakistani singer Ghulam Ali’s concert in Mumbai and protesting against the book launch of former Pakistan minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri.

In a democracy, street protests by political parties are important. Otherwise political struggles will be a thing of the past, it pointed out. “Because of Pakistan’s anti-India activities, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has to address the nation from behind a bullet-proof glass. Pakistan will kill our jawans, threaten us. Should we lay red carpet for Pakistanis on the blood of our martyrs?” it asked.

It said “Shiv Sena has never compromised on Maharashtra’s self- respect and national security. The party is a shining example of hardcore Hindutva. Sena is the only political party which has never betrayed its people for the sake of power,” it said.

“Strong nationalism and Hindutva flourished in this land because of icons like Lokmanya Tilak, Chhatrapati Shivaji and Veer Savarkar. They have fought tooth and nail against the country’s enemies. Nobody should lecture Shivaji’s Maharashtra about tolerance,” it said.

The Sena said it is capable of “countering any move to get it declared by the UN as a terrorist outfit”.

RSS doesn’t work with an eye on polls: Bhaiyyaji Joshi

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has carried out its work not with an eye on elections or politics but for all round betterment of society, RSS general secretary Bhaiyyaji Joshi said.

Joshi, while addressing RSS workers on the occasion of Dussehra, said the administration cannot achieve various goals in diverse fields such as education, social, cultural and health on its own and what was needed was participation of all members of the society.

“In the last 90 years a lot has been done towards the society by the Sangh and a lot remains to be done in the coming years. We should work to ensure that the country becomes ‘Mahasatta’ (global power) in the world,” Joshi said.

“Political selfishness should not encroach upon the thoughts of nation’s interest and bright future,” he added.

“Social fabric, scientific basis, sanskar, education cannot be achieved only through law and from the administrative system. The preaching by social organisations has an immense importance in this process,” he said.

“The RSS believes that the entire society shall become adaptable, culturally strong. The RSS should believe that the society should be adaptable for the change and should come out of the dogmas which have divided the society and it has been working relentlessly for the last 90 years in that direction with a view to create strong Bharat(India),” he said.

“However, we know that though we have become successful in crossing all the barriers still there is lot to be achieved and there is a long way ahead,” Joshi added.

The General Secretary further said that the comparison of caste into high and low was a shame to the society and while removing this disparity politics should not come in the way.

“The division of society based on the caste is a stigma to the society, which is a big challenge and we sincerely believe that such issues should not be politicised. The national interest and betterment of future should be paramount aim of all of us and we should not allow politics to enter into this area,” he said.

“If we desire to have a politics of principles then the society should take lead and ensure that,” he added.

He also commented on the many castes trying to compete with each other for proving their backwardness and said we should not allow anybody to harbour such intentions.

Cong files complaint against Shiv Sena for ‘insulting’ Prez

The state unit of Congress filed a complaint against Shiv Sena for “insulting” President Pranab Mukherjee through an “objectionable” poster, which claimed that he “bowed” before the late saffron party supremo Bal Thackeray.

A delegation of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), led by party legislator Bhai Jagtap lodged the complaint at the Shivaji Park Police Station.

“The objectionable write up on the poster was close to the President’s picture. Mukherjee had visited Thackeray during the Presidential election campaign. In keeping with Indian culture and tradition, Mukherjee folded his hands on meeting Thackeray. But, a write up on the poster says the President bowed before him,” the complaint said.

Congress has accused the Sena of using the poster showing the President, who is the constitutional head of the country, for “political mudslinging”.

“This is a serious matter,” the party said.

The poster which was put up at Sena Bhavan in Dadar by the Shiv Sena’s East Mumbai unit, also showed Prime Minister Narendra Modi bowing reverentially before Thackeray.

VK Singh shocker on Dalit killing: ‘Govt can’t be blamed if a dog is stoned’

VK-SinghUnion Minister VK Singh has once again triggered a controversy by talking about a ‘dog being stoned’ while arguing that government must not be blamed for the brining alive of two Dalit children in Haryana.

“See, the thing is, never associate local incidents with the Central government (sarkar). There is an inquiry going on. There was a dispute between families. The dispute…How did it turn out…Where did the administration fail, after these it come to the Centre,” he said at Ghaziabad.

And in an afterthought – apparently aimed to stress that Centre must not be blamed for every incident – he added: “For everything…Like if somebody throws a stone at a dog, then the government is responsible…It is not like that.”

Later, in a statement, Singh described as “dastardly and cowardly act” the killing of two little children in Faridabad “which is a shocking reflection on the state of our society.”

“From all indications, the horrific incident was triggered off by a feud between two families. Our society is made up of many individuals, and the act of every sick mind cannot be put at the door of the government, regardless of which party is in power.

“It does not matter who or what the political affiliations are, the perpetrators have to be dealt with without mercy. I also appeal to the media not to deliberately twist my words out of context.

What I have said and continue to say is very clear, and there is no ambiguity about it,” he said.

“I have given an analogy by seeing an animal in front of me out there in that village (where he had gone for an event in Ghaziabad). Which is what happened. I have not said anything about those people (the victims of burning incident).

“All I said was suppose somebody wants to hit a dog and everybody starts saying in the media that this is what the government is doing….Now how it relates to that I cannot understand,” he said.

Expectedly, the Opposition latched on to Singh’s remarks.

The Congress demanded that he should be removed from the Union Cabinet and Prime Minister Narendra Modi apologise.
