J&K MLA Engineer Rashid’s face painted black, Hindu Sena claims responsibility

Independent Jammu and Kashmir MLA Engineer Rashid, who had hosted a beef party in Srinagar, by members of the Hindu Sena in Delhi on Monday.

Rashid was earlier thrashed by BJP MLAs inside the J&K Assembly on October 9 over the beef party he hosted at the MLA hostel in Srinagar.

Today’s attack occurred when Rashid was holding a press conference at the Delhi Press Club.

Hindu Sena leader Vishnu Gupta later claimed responsibility for the attack. The Delhi Police later detained two people in connection with the case.

An angry Rashid later said, “What has happened to (Sudheendra) Kulkarni has happened to me. The world can see where India stands..you used to say Pakistan is being talibanized but this happens in India:.”

Rashid went on to ‘salute’ Pakistan’s founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

“We believed in the India of Mahatma Gandhi not of Togadia and Hindu Mahasabha…I salute Jinnah that he created a separate Pakistan because he knew that they will not let Muslims live in India,” he said.

“Mr. Modi should say sorry to the nation,” he added.

Writers returning awards for garnering publicity

More than 20 writers of different languages across the nation have returned their Sahitya Akademi awards so far.  It has been reported that all writers were hurt with the spread of communal tension and rising intolerance in India. Writers are returning their Sahitya Akademi awards as a mark of their protest against the central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to me writers are raking up the issue of Dadri incident deliberately to target Modi. Their actions seem to be provoked by those who cannot stand the popularity of the PM in the globe, among many world leaders and the good performance overall by his government and the ministers. The opposition and other opponents had perhaps, never expected that Modi and his group of ministers could the run the government at the centre quite effectively. He also has won the goodwill of several world leaders and other dignitaries of various fields. They all thought, rather had a notion that Modi as PM will prove to be a failure.

Now the main questions to those pseudo-intellectuals, intelligentsia: Why did the main opposition party (which was then ruling) and these literati and writers remain silent after Bhagalpur riots? Where was the intelligentsia when 60 people died in the Muzaffarpur Nagar? When Taslima Nasrin was attacked in 2007, where were these writers?

Did not these writers have something called conscience and concern then? Why did they not come forward to return their awards then? And did not attack the erstwhile government? The great joke is that one of the writers mentioned about Sikhs riots which occurred 31 years ago, as a reason to return her award! So she had her conscience pricked only after 31 years and only when there was a BJP government with Modi as PM! Look at these latest killing in the Congress ruled states:  A writer was killed in Bangalore (Karnataka) a few months ago? Why were these intellectuals silent? Because Karnataka is ruled by Congress?

Nobody protested or returned awards when Narendra Dabholkar was killed. Why because the state was then ruled by Congress? Why none of them showed any concern when an Indian soldier was brutally beheaded and many more being killed in the ceasefire violations, by the enemy nation, from across the Indian border? So the present actions by these writers and so-called intellectuals clearly show that they could tolerate all those events till a couple of years ago?

As matured writers, is it proper for them to hype unfortunate events to assert intellectual supremacy? Why not rise above prejudices and condemn every killing irrespective of religion? And finally, I would like to ask whether these writers have returned the prize money received along with the awards? Have they all sent their cheques to Sahitya Akademi? It’s learnt that some of them had just announced their decision but are yet to formally inform the Akademi? Why? Did they do so to seek cheap publicity and garner media attention? Have you all really returned the award citation and other benefits that you must have accrued post receipt of awards?

Pakistan jao, Now slogan raised by Mumbai Police

PakBandra Police Inspector Kedar Pawar and his team had brutally assaulted Mahim residents Asif Shaikh and Danish Shaikh and asked them to quit India and go to Pakistan. The boys were picked up while they were on their bike. They had stopped near Bandstand when they saw two drunk men fighting on the road. When the police came to control the situation, they picked up the boys as well. The duo was reportedly beaten up, dragged, and pushed at police station after being arrested.

When the victim’s parents learnt about this incident they went to the police station the next day.

Seriously injured, Asif and Danish have been admitted to a private hospital in Mumbai. It has been also alleged that the cops were also in an inebriated condition. Kedar Pawar also had applied ice and Soframycin on the body of Asif and Danish to conceal the truth about the crime.

Preeti Menon, National Spokesperson Aam Aadmi Party said, “The police have not done the right thing by assaulting the victims and asking them to leave to Pakistan. The Police Commissioner should intervene in this matter and order for a probe. The erring police officials must be suspended to avert such incidents in future.”

Mumbai Police Commissioner Ahmed Javed said, “We have instructed the Zonal DCP to investigate this matter. The necessary action will be taken after the arrival of the investigation report.”

Samajwadi Party leader Farhan Azmi said, “If the Mumbai Police fails to take action against Kedar Pawar within 24 hours then we will hold dharna on the streets of the city and also protest outside Pawar’s residence. Such type of officials must be blacklisted and suspended from the Police force.”

Victims’ relatives and neighbours allege that both Asif and Danish were detained and grilled for over three hours and were beaten badly.

Asif’s uncle, Umar Shaikh said, “The police also asked us to refrain from filing a complaint and switch off our phones. They also warned us against speaking to media and unveil the truth to hospital authorities.”

It is not clear whether the detention of Asif and Danish was made an official entry in police records. Asif’s photo published in the news report shows the brutality he was treated with.

Now realising their mistake, police have offered a compensation of Rs 1 lakh to Asif. However, Asif’s relatives have said that they will lodge complaints with higher officials and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Amit Shah’s “reprimand” a political gimmick eyeing Bihar election?

Facing attack from outside and growing unease within, Amit Shah “reprimanded” several top party leaders who had made controversial comments on the Dadri lynching and beef row after PM Narendra Modi voiced “extreme displeasure” over their actions. Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters are expecting that these motor mouth leaders should be dropped from the squad and can be replaced by a qualified service minded people. For an avid BJP supporter, it gives a feeling that, only a handful of ministers are in action and even the PMO is in full control. Modi must raise the rank of those leaders. Non-performing ministers should be sacked with a stern warning that no inaction shall be tolerated. BJP creates a good impression within India and outside, but there is a belief that it is all because of low oil price. So, it is high time for the leaders to think and take full advantage of the low oil price and steer the country on the way of development. In my understanding, Modi is capable of doing this; however he needs to be more proactive.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Minister of State for Agriculture Sanjeev Balyan, Unnao MP Sakshi Maharaj and Uttar Pradesh MLA Sangeet Som, an accused in the Muzaffarnagar riots, were “summoned” to BJP president ‘s office where they were “lectured” and warned against making comments that “threaten to derail” the Modi government’s “positive agenda”, a senior party functionary said. “Besides, a message has been sought to be conveyed to the entire party hierarchy that leaders should desist from making statements that create unnecessary controversy. People prone to making controversial statements have also been conveyed the party’s unhappiness.

The move came a day after one of BJP’s oldest allies Shiromani Akali Dal termed the lynching of a Muslim man in Dadri last month over beef eating rumours a “shame” for the country and said what happened after that was “damaging the Prime Minister more than anybody else”.

As Congress guessed, Shah’s exercise can be a “mere gimmick” and “empty formality” after the “horse has bolted”, because this is not the first time that BJP ministers are getting engaged in stupid commenting, they did it time and again, this time they summoned ministers because such statements will affect the outcome of Bihar elections. BJP and Modi are facing the most crucial political challenge since its government took office nearly 15 months ago. The assembly elections in Bihar and Modi’s arch rival Nitish Kumar is CM candidate from Mahagathbandhan is the biggest political challenge for Modi. A win would strengthen Modi’s hands but if he loses the election, the prime minister would inevitably suffer a loss of face before the international community. Importance of the election cannot be indeed understated. The BJP needs this shot in the arm desperately. However, the opposition is even more desperate.

There are three principal players in Bihar’s political space today — the ruling Janata Dal (United) of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, former Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the BJP — not necessarily in that order. The Congress has long been reduced to the status of a fringe player in the Bihar politics. While the ruling party is taking on the opposition in a determined and bold fashion, the opposition has agreed to a concrete seat sharing formula. This is a major breakthrough for the opposition parties in the state, which were in disarray and looking for some sort of electoral agreement before the upcoming crucial election. Needless to say, this is the biggest threat to the BJP, which however still has advantages of being a monolith party and that of ruling at the center. Inspite of all these speculations and arrangements, after two phases of elections many think tanks predicted the bad output for BJP in Bihar, the saffron party’s win is uncertain and right now Modi can’t afford this.

The BJP is aware of the political importance of winning Bihar. The severe setback it received in losing Delhi polls in a humiliating fashion earlier this year at the hands of a three-year-old Aam Aadmi Party can be reversed if they could win the state polls. The election is significantly closely related to national politics. The BJP government at the center is being stonewalled at every step by the sulking Congress and its friends in Parliament. And to have leverage in Parliament, Modi would need to have control over Rajya Sabha, the upper house. But this is easier said than done. To get a complete control of Rajya Sabha, the ruling party will have to win every state assembly election over the next three years. This is practically impossible and the past track record of how various states have performed electorally shows this.

It is a fast-changing political scenario in Bihar, the results of assembly elections would shape and determine the political future of Modi and the opposition. However, the fact remains that the Modi magic has lost sheen over the past 14 months. Yet, the time will tell who wins and who will lose in this politically volatile state later. At such critical situation, Modi has still not found time and continues to practice deafening silence. This has been a mere gimmick far from solving issues which amounts to admission of guilt.

BJP, RSS ‘propagating hatred politics’: Nawab Malik

NawabThe Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Sunday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangha (RSS) are propagating hatred politics in this country.

NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik highlighted the recent controversial remark on beef made by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to vent his ire over the article published in RSS mouthpiece Panchjanya’s latest edition that the Vedas order the killing of “sinners” who slaughter cows.

“I think Panchjanya is propagating the hatred politics quoting the veda and purana. We suggest them please read the book of Savarkar, please read the book and the speeches given by Vivekananda known as ‘Work of Swami Vivekananda’ then give the example of veda and purana,” said Malik.

“They are propagating hatred politics; they want to burn the country for their own interest. This is the ideology which the BJP has, what the Sangh people have,” he added.

The RSS mouthpiece in its latest edition has criticised the writers, who have returned their awards in the wake of the incident in Dadri where a man was lynched over rumours of storing beef at his residence.

Pawar asks surgarcane workers to approach CM

Shrad-PawarNCP supremo Sharad Pawar asked the members of Maharashtra State Cooperative Sugar Federation to meet Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis over the long-pending issues of sugarcane workers.

Stating that the CM should take initiative in this regard, Pawar said he was ready to facilitate a meeting.

A delegation from the Federation met Pawar, seeking his intervention.

Pawar, however, said that as he was not in power any longer, he himself will not be able to resolve the issues directly.

“The first meeting of the Federation should be with the Chief Minister to resolve the issue of 20 per cent increase in wages,” Pawar was quoted as saying by a statement released by his party.

“I am ready to facilitate a meeting of the Federation delegation with Fadnavis on these issues, but he (Fadnavis) should first take an initiative,” Pawar said.

Sugarcane farm workers have demanded 20 per cent hike in wages, increased commission for supervisors (‘mukadams’) and hike in transport rates. They also demand that their dues be paid off immediately.

Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council and NCP leader Dhananjay Munde had organised today’s meeting with Pawar.

Recalling his relations with the late BJP leader Gopinath Munde, Pawar said they had jointly solved several issues of the sugarcane workers, though Pawar at that time was in the government while Munde was in the opposition.

“Over the workers’ issues, we had no differences,” he said.
