Mahatma Gandhi: Father of the nation

Mahatma Gandhi was a great freedom fighter who spent his entire life in the struggle for the independence of India. He was born on October 2, 1869 in Porbander, Gujarat. Gandhiji lived his entire life as a leader of the Indian people. His whole life story is a great inspiration for us. Mahatma Gandhi is well known because of his greatest contributions towards the Independence of our country. He was the one who believed in non-violence and unity of the people and brought spirituality in Indian politics. He worked hard for the upliftment of the backward classes in India, raised voice to develop villages for social development, inspired Indian people to use swadeshi (Indian-made products), goods and other social issues and brought the common people in front to participate in the national movement and inspired them to fight for their true freedom.

Gandhiji started many mass movements like the Non-Cooperation Movement in 1920, Civil Disobedience Movement in 1930 and finally the Quit India Movement in 1942, all through the way of independence of India. After lots of struggles and hardships, the British finally granted independence to India. He was a very simple person who worked hard to remove the colour barrier and caste barrier. Gandhiji also worked hard for removing the untouchability in the Indian society and named untouchables as ‘Harijans’, meaning ‘People of God’.

He was a great social reformer and Indian freedom fighter who died a day after completing his aim in life.

He is the real father of our nation who really used his all powers to make us free from the British rule. Gandhiji truly understood the power of the unity in people from different castes, religions, community, race, age and gender which he used all through his independence movement. Finally, he forced the Britishers to quit India forever through his mass movements on the night of August 14, 1947.  Since 1947, August 15th is celebrated every year as the Independence Day in India.

Gandhiji could not continue his life after the independence of India in 1947 as he was assassinated by one of the Indian Hindu activists, Shri Nathuram Godse on January 30, 1948. Bapuji was a great personality who served his whole life till his death for his motherland. He enlightened our life with the true light of freedom from the British rule. He proved that everything is possible through non-violence and unity of the people.

The Hunger Games co-stars are spending a lot of quality time together, following JLaw’s split from Chris Martin, 36, according to a new report. Could these two have finally gotten together just as we’ve always hoped?!

While an earlier report claimed Liam has been seeing his Independence Day 2 co-star, Maika Monroe, Jennifer is apparently unfazed by the competition. An insider revealed to that the X-Men: Apocalypse actress has been calling Liam’s phone non-stop as the two continue to keep in constant contact, following her split from Chris Martin. “Lots of people were convinced they would wind up together, and they still could,” the source continued. “Jen has been calling Liam all the time, especially at night.”

While that doesn’t necessarily confirm a romantic relationship, the source did also reveal that Jennifer and Liam have been spending a lot of quality time together while working on the set of The Hunger Games over the course of the past four years. Plus, they have become close friends in the process. This also isn’t the first time that dating rumors have dogged the two co-stars, who were first linked back in November 2014. “It happened while they were in Germany, promoting the movie, having a heart-to-heart in Liam’s hotel room.”

Mumbai Serial Blast verdict, Innocents charged

Alleges Gulzar Azmi, who will challenge the verdict of MCOCA in the Bombay High Court.

mumbai2006blastsconvictsThe Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) has awarded death sentence to five convicts Kamal Ansari, Faisal Atur Rahman Shaikh, Ehtesham Siddiqui, Naveed Khan and Asif Khan for their role in the 2006 Mumbai serial blasts. The remaining seven, who have been sentenced to life are Tanvir Ahmed Ansari, Mohammad Majid Shafi, Shaikh Alam Shaikh, Mohd Sajid Ansari, Muzzammil Shaikh, Soheil Mehmood Shaikh and Zamir Ahmad Shaikh. The gruesome incident had claimed the lives of 189 people. On the other hand, convicts lawyers expressed their displeasure over the verdict and said that they will move the Bombay High Court against the order.

Gulzar Azmi, Secretary of Jamiat-e-Ulema, who is legally supporting convicts said, “We are confident that justice will be done in the High Court. The real culprits are not caught and innocent are been charged. Many times High Court has overturned the lower courts order and deliver justice.”

Meanwhile, convict Ehteshaam Siddique has written to Home Minister Rajnath Singh claiming innocence.

Convicts Defence lawyer Sharif Sheikh said that his clients were innocent and that he would now challenge the verdict of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court in the Bombay High Court.

“The court has convicted all of the accused. They are innocent. They were rather the victims. The court has somewhere committed a mistake. It has not made efforts to find the truth. Whatever the advocates and the accused could do, they did. We will challenge the case in the high court” said Sharif Sheikh.

The accused were found guilty of charges under IPC, Explosives Act, Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act and Indian Railway Act and those under MCOCA. The charge sheet filed by Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) in November 2006 had named 30 accused, out of which 17 of them are absconding. The absconding which comprise 13 Pakistan nationals, include Azam Chima, an alleged Lashker-e-Taiba member.

Reacting to the judgement, former ATS chief KP Raghuvanshi “My team which carried out investigation stands vindicated. I hope this brings some closure to families of the victims. We are satisfied that court has given the important order that ATS had investigated the case in the right direction.”

“All the claims of people who had accused us of arresting the wrong people have been proved false. With this verdict, police’s credibility has increased. The judgement proves that truth cannot be hidden” he added.

In the trial that ran for eight long years, the prosecution examined 192 witnesses, including eight Indian Police Service (IPS) and five Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers as well as 18 doctors. The defence lawyers examined 51 witnesses and one person was called as a court witness.

The blast occurred within a span of 10 minutes between Khar Road-Santacruz, Bandra-Khar Road, Jogeshwari-Mahim Junction, Mira Road- Bhayander, Matunga- Mahim Junction and Borivali.

“For the hundreds killed in the blasts, thousands affected indirectly, only five have been awarded death sentence. I expected death for all accused. Everyone should be hanged. They have been proven guilty”, said Padamchand Gandhi (51).

K Pande (65) another victim too is unhappy with the judgment. He said, “Everyone involved must be brought to account. I feel instead of hanging them, which is quick and easy way to end their misery, they must be made to live in penance in jail. They should be made to remember every day why they are in prison.”

Modi’s India ruled by communals?

This is what our government wanted to do through Beef ban, their vote bank politics may be due to elections in Bihar, neighbouring states like UP and Jharkhand will definitely have to bear the communal incidents. Sadhus beaten up in Banaras, Muslim beaten up in Dadri and Hindu-Muslim riots in Ranchi, this is all a planned conspiracy to polarize votes in Bihar. People should be careful. It is very shameful that some people are behaving like unjust manner and creating communal riots. A 50-year-old man was beaten to death by a mob in Dadri in UP over rumours in village that his family had eaten beef. India is moving towards civil war, and the credit goes to current Government’s counterparts Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), Bajrang Dal and (RSS) like organizations. Mohammad Akhlaq, was beaten to death and his 22-year-old son was severely injured by residents of Bisara village, after rumors spread in the area about the family storing and consuming beef. After the outrage on social media the UP government announced Rs. 10 lakh compensation for the family of a dead person, but failed to promise strict action against culprits.

Family members are living in a small house, they actually don’t have any place to shelter or butcher cow or consume it. Story was cooked up to target them. Even after so much brutality neither the cops reached on time nor their neighbours came to their rescue. Akhlaq lived there with his 70-year-old mother and family. His elder son Sartaz works with the Indian Air Force and is currently posted in Chennai. Another son Danish, suffered serious injuries in the attack. Hundreds of people gathered in front of their house and started abusing them randomly; some even stone pelted and threatened entire family without confirming the fact. A heated argument followed for 10 minutes after which the agitators turned violent and broke open the main gate of Muslim man’s house. They misbehaved with his daughter-in-law and grand-daughter. They did not even spare even his son. Finally, the daughters and son locked themselves in the washroom but they broke open the washroom door and thrashed them. The attack continued for nearly half an hour, but no one came to their rescue. They even brutally assaulted children of the family, the son and grandson, then dragged his son’s body to the road and fled after dumping it there.

Autopsy report suggested that the Man died due to severe blood loss and hemorrhage. Six accused were nabbed and put behind bars. They have been identified as Rupender, Vivek, Sree Om, Sandeep, Saurabh and Gaurav, all in their late 20s. It has come to our knowledge that the mob held a meeting in a temple in the middle of the village, where they decided to teach the deceased a lesson for slaughtering cows. The mob then rushed to the victim’s home and attacked the family. The police did not react on time. The locals gave samples of meat to cops but they did not take it seriously. Finally, the flesh was found to be of goat’s meat and not beef. And even if, they were consuming beef then also who had given them the authority to beat people and kill them.

The entire incidence happened due to people spreading rumours. Without any substantial truth, one had to sacrifice his life. I wonder why such people never react or kill culprits who get away with rapes and murders. Do these people really belong to human race or animals? This is ridiculous and really bringing bad image for Hinduism in the world. Cow is sacrosanct for Hindus and not for others. Putting such moral policing on food is wrong at a very first place. However, hurting a human for some rumour is worst kind of behaviour. Hindus must keep away from such acts, otherwise what would be the difference between them and Taliban?

The administration and politicians gave explanations that there was confusion. There were a lot of events (incidents) gave birth to such event, not only cow slaughtering but of animal theft and animal slaughtering going on in that area. In that confusion, there was misunderstanding about the animal killing and the event occurred due to that. Today, people have lost all rationality and reason when they assess an incident and try to justify by all means. A cow is more important than a man’s life and killing him by a mob is ‘justifiable’. If they are so much concerned about animal rights then the first things they should do is to urge the government to be more firm with the poaching of endangered animals, reptiles, avian, insects and plants etc. They deserve more of this kind of protection than the bovine species which are everywhere in plenty. Is this India shinning? Human life has no value. Religious fanatics are out there to kill. Minorities are no longer safe in India. NRI Muslims have to think twice before embarking on settling down in India.

Raghuvanshi, top lawyers welcome verdict

NikamFormer ATS chief K P Raghuvanshi on Wednesday welcomed the court verdict in the 2006 serial blasts on Mumbai local trains, saying it had vindicated the efforts of his team of officers which conducted the probe even as the defence counsel said they will appeal in the High Court.

“I congratulate all my 15 officers, who had probed the case. The verdict is a vindication of our efforts. I am happy that the court has appreciated the evidence and given an appropriate quantum of punishment in the case,” he said.

Five persons were sentenced to death and seven others imprisoned for life by a special court here for the serial blasts that left 189 commuters dead and over 800 injured.

Soon after the quantum of sentence was pronounced, Raghuvanshi arrived at the city sessions court here and said, “I am satisfied with the quantum announced by the court. I would have been more happy had all the convicted been awarded death sentence.”

“All the claims of people who had accused us of arresting the wrong people have been proved false. With this verdict, police’s credibility has increased. The judgement proves that truth cannot be hidden,” he said.

Leading lawyers too hailed the decision of the court.

“I welcome the verdict because in this case the evidence was circumstantial and the prosecution was able to successfully prove the guilt of the accused,” said Ujjwal Nikam, a leading public prosecutor who has appeared on behalf the state in many terror-related cases.

Nikam said that the court had accepted that there was a criminal conspiracy to create the serial blasts during peak hours in local trains. However, in a criminal conspiracy all the conspirators have an equal role to play and they are also responsible individually and collectively for the terror act. Therefore, all the convicts should have got death punishment.

However, advocate Sharif Shaikh, who defended some of the convicts in this case, said, “They have been falsely implicated by the ATS (prosecuting agency). We shall appeal in the Bombay High Court. All those ATS officers who have fabricated evidence in this case will go behind bars.”

Leading defence lawyer Majeed Memon said the verdict was expected to be “harsh” because a serious offence had been committed against the society. However, the death penalty imposed on five convicts would assume finality only after the Bombay High Court confirms the punishment awarded to convicts.

Make pavements encroachment-free: BMC chief orders officials

MehtaIn a move that would facilitate the pedestrians, Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta has ordered the officials to remove encroachments on the footpaths across the city.

In the order issued, Mehta has asked all the 24 ward offices in the city to make the footpaths free of encroachments by unauthorised hawkers, hotels, furniture shops, among others.

Confirming the move, Mehta said, “Yes, I have issued an order to this effect and I feel with the support of citizens, we should be able to make a difference.”

A senior BMC officer said that ward officers have been instructed to prepare a list of encroachments on a priority.

“All the assistant commissioners of the 24 wards have been given a stern order to create an inventory of unauthorised structures on footpaths across the city and demolish them,” the official added.

Another senior officer said, “Assistant commissioners will conduct a survey of illegal structures by keeping it’s photograph as record and then chalk out a plan to remove them.”

The survey will be carried out with the help of a special team formed by ward officers at each ward level, he added.

After the footpaths are cleared, the Additional Municipal Commissioners have to keep checking that there are no encroachments on the pavements again.

Welcoming BMC chief’s order, RTI activist Anil Galgali, said, “Let’s hope and do our bit to support Mehta to implement the decision, which no other BMC commissioner had taken.”

Why Salman’s blood test was done when he wasn’t drunk, questions his lawyer in HC

SalmanPointing to “discrepancies” in the 2002 hit-and-run case involving Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, his lawyer raised a question in the Bombay High Court as to why police had gone for a blood test when no witness or FIR had ever suggested that the actor was drunk or was smelling of liquor.

Amit Desai, arguing on Salman’s appeal against conviction, alleged discrepancies made by police while drawing blood samples of the actor in the 14-year-old drink-and- driving case and said that the actor had not taken alcohol on the day of the mishap.

On May 6, the actor was sentenced to five-year jail term for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and driving under the influence of liquor. One person was killed and four injured when his car had rammed into a shop in suburban Bandra on September 28, 2002.

“Why Kisan Shengal, prosecution witness 27 and Senior Police Inspector of Bandra police station, took a decision to draw blood samples of Salman Khan…Why ? What prompted him?…,” asked Desai while arguing before Justice A R Joshi.

Desai said the complainant as well as star witness late Ravindra Patil, who was the police bodyguard of Salman at the relevant time, had not given any statement to police about the actor smelling of liquor either in his complaint.

Also, the lawyer said, the FIR does not say this and no other witness has suggested this till that time. Then what prompted police to go in for blood test of Salman, he asked.
Desai pointed out that in the entire evidence, there is no mention of police constables, officers and/or staff speaking about the smell of alcohol when the appellant arrived at Bandra police station on September 28, 2002 when the mishap had occurred.

He said the FIR had been lodged by the main witness, Ravindra Patil, who was accompanying Salman Khan in his car on the day of mishap from the time – around 11 pm of September 27, 2002 till 2.45 am of September 28, 2002.

According to the prosecution’s case, Patil had gone with Salman from the actor’s Galaxy Apartments at Bandra to Rain Bar at Juhu and then to JW Marriot hotel before the accident.
But nowhere Patil had made a mention of Salman smelling of liquor or taking drinks, said his lawyer.
“There is absolutely no mention – that he was slurring, that he was smelling, that he was staggering, that his gait was not proper….Our case is that he did not have alcohol.. then why PW-27 (Investigating officer Kishen Shengal) took the decision to send him to hospital?,” he asked.

Desai said that Salman was first sent to Bhabha Hospital where his blood could not be drawn. “But there is no witness who has been examined from Bhabha Hospital which is five minutes away from Bandra police station, he argued.

Later, when Salman was taken to JJ Hospital at Byculla, the medical officer there stated that he was smelling alcohol…..This is not a private matter, it is a police case, in the casualty department at Bhabha Hospital any competent officer could have smelt and recorded it. Why this was not done?” he asked and claimed this was a major discrepancy.
