Nowadays, TV debates are turning out to be no less dramatic than soap operas.
A national TV debate on controversial self-styled godwoman ‘Radhe Maa’ turned into an on-air brawl when a female astrologer got up and slapped another panelist – a self-proclaimed godman – who retorted back with his own punches.
The dramatic on-air brawl took place during the airing of the show ‘Äaj Ka Mudda’ on IBN7 when the panelists were debating over ‘Radhe Maa’.
At one point during the discussion, female astrologer Deepa Sharma got so agitated that she simply got up and dished out one slap on the cheeks of Hindu Mahasabha’s Om Ji Maharaj.
Startled and shocked, the self-proclaimed godman made no delay in responding and in no time, both of them were seen exchanging blows.

A Bandra Family Court granted divorce to a man, who alleged that his wife didn’t allow him to have sex as per her guru’s instructions.
During the court hearing, the wife of the 30-year-old argued that her husband wanted to indulge in unnatural sex, following which she refused to get intimate. The couple got married in 2011.
In his petition, the man maintained that on the wedding night he was impressed with his wife as she had brought packets of condoms, on the first wedding night.
However, after four months, the man was astounded, as her wife refused to have sex on her guru’s advice. According to the husband, his wife also told him that she didn’t want to have kids for the next five years.
While delivering the judgement, Justice SA Morey said, “The wife has no sufficient cause for denial of physical intimacy to the husband. Therefore, the act of respondent (wife) amounts to mental cruelty.”
The man also accused his wife of fighting with the family members and also frequently calling him up at his office, causing disruptions in his work.
The 30-year-old in his PIL also said that his wife hacked his account and sent derogatory e-mails against him to his friends.
He also maintained that his dream of marrying a woman who would manage his home was completely shattered.
The court also categorically rejected the wife’s claims that her husband wanted to indulge in unnatural sex.
In a big relief for the meat dealers, Bombay High Court on Monday stayed the ban on sale of meat on September 17, which implies that meat can now be sold on that day.
The Bombay High Court passed the order while responding to a petition moved by the Mutton Dealers Association, which challenged the ban on slaughter and sale of meat during Jain festival Paryushan.
In its ruling, the HC said that “though the state government circular banning meat sale on two days was issued in 2004, it was never fully implemented.”
The High Court, however, refused to interfere in the slaughter of meat or shutting down of meat shops in the city.
The Maharastra government had earlier imposed the ban on meal sale for four days, September 10, 13, 17 18 but the BMC had on Friday revoked the ban to be imposed on September 13 and 18.
The move was taken following severe protests from Shiv Sena and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). The High Court had also severely criticised the ban and questioned how the corporation can restrict the sale of meat.
The BMC counsel had on Friday informed court that the ban was originally meant only for slaughter of animals and the ban on sale of meat was consequential. It had argued that this was keeping in mind the health concerns of the public since the meat sold will be fresh.
The court had questioned that when there is storage available, it is an individual’s choice when they want to purchase and it cannot be restricted.
Jitan Ram Manjhi has persuaded the BJP to part with a few more seats than the senior partner had brought to the negotiation table. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will be fighting the polls on 160 seats, while the allies have been given 83 seats.
After multiple meetings, BJP chief Amit Shah announced how his party and its three regional allies will divide seats in Bihar: Ramvilas Paswan’s Lok Jan Shakti Party will contest 40, Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Samata Party will contest 23 seats and Jitan Ram Manhji’s newly minted Hindustani Awaam Morcha (Secular), also called HAM, will contest 20.
Standing together showing their camaraderie, alliance partners in the NDA – BJP’s Amit Shah joined hands with LJP leader Ram Vilas Paswan, RLSP leader Upendra Kushwaha, HAM’s Jitan Ram Manjhi, among several other senior leaders.
The announcement had been delayed several times as Manjhi played hardball and insisted on contesting many more seats than his party was initially allotted.
Mr. Shah said a few people from Mr Manjhi’s party will also contest as BJP candidates, rejecting reports of squabbles over seats. “There is no tug of war in the NDA over seat sharing,” Mr. Shah said as he announced after a fairly aggressive tussle over the weekend.
“All constituents of the BJP-led NDA have decided to contest the Bihar polls together under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi. NDA is confident of big victory in the polls.” Shah said.
NDA is confident of winning a two-third majority in the Bihar polls. We are confident that the people of Bihar will prefer NDA over misleading and corrupt Nitish Kumar government here, the BJP chief said.
The BJP national president also took a dig at the ‘grand alliance’ floated by Nitish Kumar, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, SP chief Mulyaam Singh Yadav and others.
The ‘grand alliance’ floated by Nitish and Lalu has fallen apart. One of the top leaders (Mulayam Singh) of the alliance is not with them, Shah said.
It’s time that Bihar votes for development, for which voting for NDA is essential, Amit Shah said.
Attacking the Bihar Chief Minister, Shah said, “Nitish Kumar is promising crime free Bihar while allying with corrupt Congress and Lalu Prasad who is representative of ‘jungle raj’”.
As far as development in Bihar is concerned I want to make it clear that Nitish Kumar’s statistics are until when BJP was with him. He is misleading the people of Bihar with inaccurate facts, Shah said.
Ever since our party ‘BJP’ exited the Bihar govt, the state has seen the jungle rule, Shah added.
Shah said, “PM Modi had announced a special package for Bihar but Nitish Kumar did not even thank him for this.”
He is of an age few people reach and when there are no more goals to be achieved, but 95-year-old Raj Kumar Vaishya is still keen to fulfil his dream of acquiring a post-graduation degree and is working for it with the help of his retired son and daughter-in-law.
He has enrolled for a master of arts in economics from the Nalanda Open University (NOU).
“I am nearer to fulfilling my long cherished dream of a postgraduate degree in economics. My aim is not to get a degree; the thrust is to study and gain knowledge of economics so as to understand the problems faced by the people and the country and to contribute something, if possible,” says Vaishya, who retired in 1980 as a general manager in a private firm in Koderma (now in Jharkhand).
He says he wished to study economics also to understand why the country had failed to solve problems like poverty, illiteracy and joblessness.
Living with his second son and daughter-in-law in the posh Rajendra Nagar colony for the last 10 years after his wife’s death, Vaishya said the academic atmosphere in the house helped him make up his mind to study further.
His son Santosh Kumar, now in his early 70s, retired from the National Institute of Technology, Patna, whereas daughter-in-law Bharti S Kumar, in her early 60s, retired as a professor from Patna University.
“Initially, they told me studying is not an easy task at this age, but later agreed to support me in view of my commitment. My son will teach me mathematics and statistics and the daughter-in-law will pitch in with other help,” Vaishya said.
“I have decided to devote two hours daily in the morning and night hours to studies. After post-graduation, I will not pursue a Ph.D,” said Vaishya.
A court in Delhi on Monday issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against Aam Aadmi Party MLA Somnath Bharti in an alleged domestic violence and attempt to murder case.
The warrant has been issued by the apex court while dismissing Bharti’s anticipatory bail plea in the domestic violence case filed against him by his wife.
Reacting over the development, Lipika Mitra, the wife of former Delhi law minister Somnath Bharti, asked him to co-operate with the probe in the said case.
“Bharti should prove that he is a good human being and that he should co-operate with the probe. He claims himself to be a good father, good politician, but first he should try and prove himself as good human being,” ANI quoted Lipika as saying.
“If he (Bharti) has something, then he should bring it up before the police,” she added.
Lipika had filed a complaint with the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) in June, accusing him of domestic violence and mental torture since 2010.
Bharti was earlier named in an FIR filed under several Sections of the Indian Penal code (IPC), including domestic violence and attempt to murder.
Yet another case of sexual assault has come to the fore from the national capital. A Class XI student was abducted and gang-raped by two youths in Delhi’s Aman Vihar area on Sunday.
The incident happened, when the school girl was out for a morning walk, when two men kidnapped and took the girl to their house and gang-raped her.
After sexually assaulting the school girl, the duo – Naushad and Mohammad – kept her confined in the house.
They duo gagged the Class XI student and tied her legs and hands so that she couldn’t raise an alarm.
When the girl didn’t return home, the victim’s parents and people from neighbourhood started searching for her.
According to a neighbour, when they were looking out for the girl, some people found something suspicious in a house. The house was taken on rent by Naushad.
The house was found to be locked from outside, but the light was switched on. Sensing something suspicious, the neighbours broke open the door and found the girl.
The angry mob apprehended the duo and brutally thrashed and tonsured them. Later they were handed over to the police.
Delhi Police have arrested both and filed a rape case against them.
President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday described Hindi as a link between the country’s ancient civilisation and modern progress and hoped that it will soon get recognition as the official language of the United Nations.
Addressing a function organised on the occasion of ‘Hindi Divas’, the President said Hindi has achieved a number of milestones since Independence and it is credited to be the vehicle of Indian thought and culture. “The language is also a link between our traditional knowledge, ancient civilisation and modern progress. Ranbir Kapoor’s recent films may have failed to do well at the box office but his rumoured girlfriend, actress Katrina Kaif says the “dedicated, passionate and focused” actor is sure to bounce back.
Ranbir is going through a rough patch in his career as his last few films – “Besharam”, “Roy” and “Bombay Velvet” failed to grab eyeballs.
“His movies not doing well is a sad thing. But he gives his heart and soul for a film. I know it hurts and pains him deeply that maybe he is not able to live up to the expectations and satisfy his audience,” said Katrina.
“He loves his audience… He wants people to love his films… He wants that acceptance from audience. So all this is hurtful to him,” she said.
The 32-year-old actress is hopeful that Ranbir will bounce back.
“But as an actor, I haven’t seen anyone more passionate and focused about his work. It is just a matter of time. Every actor goes through ups and downs. I am sure with his passion, dedication and God’s blessing, things will change,” she said.
Talking about her recently-released film “Phantom”, Katrina says she is happy with the audience’s response.
The actress is now excited for Nitya Mehra’s film with Sidharth Malhotra, for which she has started shooting. The film titled “Baar Baar Dekho” is a love story, which happens over a period of time.
“Nitya’s film is an amazing love story. It is an idea that shocked me when I first heard it. I have not seen or heard a film like this in long time,” she said.
“Most of the love stories are of similar types, but this seemed new and exciting. There is lot of performance in it,” she said.
Sidharth had earlier revealed that they would go for prosthetics look for the film.
Talking about it, Katrina says, “It (use of prosthetics look) is there for a small portion in a film. Like in “Barfi” when they (Ranbir and Priyanka) are growing old and dying so you won’t say it is a film using prosthetics.”
“It is used in a small portion in the film. There is a very small portion (growing old) that comes towards the end of the film,” she said.
